  1. + Emulator (subject to change without notice):

  3. + Server executable:

  5.
  6. Mednafen is a robust emulator that supports online multiplayer for the NES, SNES, TG-16/SuperCD, SuperGrafx, PC-FX, Sega Genesis (2 player only) and Master System, while also having a Player 1 shared controller feature for the Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket (Color), Wonderswan, GBC, GBA, Virtual Boy and Game Gear. It's main highlight is the ability for people to join and drop out of games seemlessly and without requiring a server restart. Though Mednafen supports PS1 emulation as well, it is currently unsuitable for netplay, and thus cannot be used to play with other people over the internet.

  8.
  9. To get started:
  10.
  11. 1.- Download both files found at the beginning of this text file, extract the emulator to a folder, then extract the server files to the same folder as your emulator.
  12.
  13. 2.- Assuming you already have some ROMs available, create a shortcut for Mednafen.exe and copy it to every ROM folder you have.
  14.
  15. 3.- To start a game, simply drag and drop a ROM on Mednafen.exe's shortcut.
  16.
  17. 4.- Your next step would be to configure your controls. This can be achieved by pressing Alt + Shift + 1. Do note that while configuring your controllers, you will be prompted to map a single input key multiple times. You must only map the first instance to the key or button you wish to use, and map every other instance to a key or button you are unlikely to ever press. e.g. map Up 1 to your Up arrow key, but map Up 2 and Up 3 to the number 9 on your numbpad.
  18.
  19. If you're hosting...
  20.
  21. 5a.- Double click mednafen-server.bat, make sure everyone has the exact file for the game you wish to play, then launch the game.
  22. 6a.- Press T to type "/server localhost PORT" or "/connect localhost PORT" (minus quotes), where PORT is the port you're using for your server, and share your IP and port with the people you wish to play with.
  23.
  24. If you're connecting...
  25.
  26. 5b.- Make sure you have the exact same file your host has for the game you wish to play, then launch it.
  27. 6b.- Press T to type "/server IP PORT" or "/connect IP PORT" (minus quotes), where IP and PORT is your host's IP and port, separated by a single empty space (the port used by default is 7845).
  28.
  29. 7.- Type "/nick YOURNICKHERE" (minus quotes) to change your name.
  30.
  31. To take a specific controller, type "/take X" (minus quotes), where 'x' is the controller number you wish to take (e.g. 1, 2, etc.). To share a single controller, type "/dupe X"; to exchange controllers, type "/swap X Y"; to drop controllers, type "/drop X".
  32.
  33. Regarding SNES multi-tap games:
  34.
  35. Download Notepad++: http://download.tuxfamily.org/notepadplus/6.5.4/npp.6.5.4.bin.minimalist.7z
  36.
  37. And open "mednafen-09x.cfg". CTRL+F ";Enable multitap on SNES port 2." (minus quotes), and change the value from 0 to 1 and save the file. Everyone who wishes to play must do this, or else multiplayer will not work.
