  1. Dear Member
  2.
  3. For some time now, we’ve been working on a major project to overhaul BE’s ‘core’ network (the bit that we own, as opposed to the part we rent from BT), principally to enable the introduction of more advanced services, increase the bandwidth (across the core part of our network) and help prepare us for transition to IPV6. It will also increase the resiliency of our network, helping to minimise the number of customers affected when, from time to time, we experience service outages.
  4.
  5. As we are effectively building a new ‘core’ network, we’ll need to migrate everyone across from the existing network, the result being a small amount of downtime to the Broadband service, and a change to everyone’s IP addresses. We realise this is an inconvenience, and so will be doing our utmost to minimise any impact this might have on your service.
  6.
  7. Before we can fully migrate you to the new network you will need to upgrade the firmware on your BE router, and we recommend you doing that as soon as you can so it’s one less thing to remember (if you are using the latest version of the BE Box – Technicolor 582n or are a Line Bonding customer you do not need to upgrade your firmware).
  8.
  9. You can access the firmware here https://www.bethere.co.uk/web/beportal/beboxdownload.
  10.
  11. We have also created some helpful documents to guide you through any reconfiguration that may be needed after you’re migrated (likely to be minimal if you have only one static IP with us). The guides are located at the following links and will help you if you are using a third party router and not the one supplied by us:
  12.
  13. Single Static Members: https://www.bethere.co.uk/setup-my-single-static-service
  14.
  15. Multi Static Members: https://www.bethere.co.uk/setup-my-multi-static-service
  16.
  17. If you are not using the BE Box we have provided then please look here http://beusergroup.co.uk/technotes/index.php?title=New_Network_Router_Settings to see if your router is compatible on our new network. If it is not located here then it will not be compatible and you will need to use the BE Box. You will not need to upgrade firmware, however, if your router is not located here then it will not be compatible and you will need to use the BE Box.
  18.
  19. We have created a comprehensive list of FAQ’s which you can access by logging into your Member Centre at www.bethere.co.uk. They are in the FAQ section and you can find them under ‘Technical’ in the drop down menu and then by clicking on ‘Network Upgrade’. You will need to login to view the majority of them.
  20.
  21. The project starts mid June 2012, and over the course of the following 50 weeks everyone will be migrated to the new network. To make things as straightforward as possible, as the migration takes place we’ll be supporting both new and ‘old’ static IP addresses for 30 days, allowing you plenty of time to make the move when your turn comes.
  22.
  23. We are contacting you because you have either one or multiple static IP addresses with us. There will also be a change to the way we provide static IP addresses, with future allocations being in blocks of one, six and 14 usable addresses (the correct subnet sizing). As such, the IP blocks we will assign you following your migration may differ from your current allocation, with those of you having four IP’s receiving six, those with eight also being allocated six, and if you have a block of 16 you’ll receive 14. Pricing for these subnets will be in line with our current pricing, with the allocation of six being priced the same as the current four IP allocation, and 14 the same as the current price for 16.
  24.
  25. We’ll get in touch closer to the time to let you know the day you’re being migrated, however, in the meantime please upgrade your firmware.
  26.
  27. If you have questions in general regarding this project and how it will affect you please raise a ticket in your account or email convergedcore@bethere.co.uk.
  28.
  29. Best regards
  30.
  31. All @ BE
