  1. HOW TO USE 1v1 GYARADOS! WORD FROM OUT SPONSER: macle's frog blog http://thebestfrogsblog.wordpress.com/author/macle13/
  2. Set made by: Kitty Cratt
  3. Tested By: Villarulez18 and Offler (otter)
  4. Note: This is a control sheet, use this as a reference as a "what if" scenario against a certain pokemon
  5. Note: This set is a up subject to change, Protect being really viable in this tier, it makes sense to maybe replace Dragon Dance, or some other move for it.
  6. -----------------------------------------------
  7. Here is the Set:
  8. Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
  9. Ability: Intimidate
  10. EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 SpD
  11. Adamant Nature
  12. - Dragon Dance
  13. - Outrage
  14. - Bounce
  15. - Taunt
  16. ------------------------------------------------
  17. This is the "What if" scenario part to the Control Sheet
  18. Note: It might be a good idea to run swampert/quagsire on this team, or something else, to help draw out a Heracross, or whatever pokemon you would like this to counter. Also there is some pokemon that counter this set decently, you might get lucky with a crit or something but it makes sense to cover this counters with other pokemon on your team. GO TO BOTTOM OF PAGE TO SEE A LIST OF GOOD COVERAGE!
  19. ------------------------------------------------
  20. Facing: Mega Heracross (Bullet Seed|Close Combat|Rock Blast| Pin Missle
  21. What to do: dont mega, you are weak to both of its stabs if you mega.
  22. Use Dragon Dance (referred to as DD) Then Mega and use bounce and have fun with the Ohko :] *warning bounce can misses 15% of the time*
  23.
  24. This allows you to ohko heracross with a 100% chance to, even if they are Max HP and Defense, while at +1 attack and speed
  25. 252+ Atk Gyarados Bounce vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Heracross: 528-624 (174.8 - 206.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  26.
  27. If you didnt DD, and went for bounce, this is the calc:
  28. 0+ Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Bounce vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Mega Heracross: 284-336 (78 - 92.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  29. ------------------------------------------------
  30. Facing: Chansey (Typical toxic stall/Typical Para Stall/Any chansey tbh)
  31. What to do: Obviously taunt the Chansey, this usually will be a great answer for Chansey
  32. One thing to look out for: Chansey can learn Counter, which will severally hurt this set. Make Sure to Dragon Dance to a point where you feel comfortable where you can OHKO the chansey. If you didnt Dragon Dance, this calc would happen:
  33.
  34. 4+ Atk Gyarados Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 153-180 (21.7 - 25.5%) -- 0.8% chance to 4HKO
  35.
  36. When You DD 4 times:
  37. +4 4+ Atk Gyarados Bounce vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 484-571 (68.7 - 81.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  38.
  39. Chansey is a huge wall in 1v1, Just go ahead and continue to taunt and DD tell you are at max and can for sure OHKO
  40. -----------------------------------------------
  41. Facing: Mega Blastoise (CounterCoat sets, with either other random Move)
  42. What to do: For sure DD dance first turn, it will either 1)Protect or 2)counter.
  43. The problem here is if you mega, you become weak to Fighting, and Blastoise can learn Aura Sphere this Gen+Magic Launcher boost
  44. will pretty much OhKO this set. I would recommend not to mega But that is your choice. When you do mega however, you do resist dark pulse and water pulse, which are more common then Aura Sphere as of now. Keep using DD tell at max, there you can most likely OHKO with outrage
  45.
  46. +6 4+ Atk Gyarados Bounce vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Mega Blastoise: 339-400 (93.6 - 110.4%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
  47.
  48. And thats Bounce!! Here is Outrage:
  49.
  50. +6 4+ Atk Gyarados Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Mega Blastoise: 319-376 (88.1 - 103.8%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
  51.
  52. Obviously Bounce is better here. Know your Stuff!
  53. -----------------------------------------------
  54. Facing: Kyreum-B
  55. Kyreum is easily one of the best pokemon in 1v1, only a littler counter it. This set was not originally meant to counter this but still has the chance to.
  56. What to do: Obviously Kyreum is going to Fushion Bolt, so you want to mega evolve to take less damage. You will be able to live 3-4 attacks depending on how your opponent is running it. The best thing to do is dragon dance, no matter what first turn. You have a 75% chance to ohko if you are facing a standard set (choice scarf), however halban berry and substitute are very common in the upper tiers.
  57. To work around this, just continue to use dd and eventually you will out-speed and ohko.
  58.
  59. Calc:
  60. +1 4+ Atk Gyarados Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 376-444 (96.1 - 113.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
  61. ----------------------------------------------
  62. Facing Azumaril or Medicham
  63. What to do: Dragon dance, then ohko with outrage or bounce, whatever one works for you :s
  64. The problem with Medicham is that its a fighting type, which you are weak to if you mega... DONT MEGA! Your opponent will probably predict that and go for a fighting move, which you resist if you dont mega. With Azumaril, you want to taunt and set up a DD and ohko with Bounce, after you taunt it a 2nd time.
  65.
  66. Medicham: (at +1 attack)
  67. Bounce: +1 4+ Atk Gyarados Bounce vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Medicham: 420-494 (160.9 - 189.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  68. Outrage: +1 4+ Atk Gyarados Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Medicham: 197-232 (75.4 - 88.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  69.
  70. Azumaril: (At +1 Attack)
  71. Bounce: +1 4+ Atk Gyarados Bounce vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 220-259 (54.4 - 64.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  72. Outrage: Nothing, its a fairy type :s
  73. ---------------------------------------------
  74. NOTE THERE IS MORE TACTICS BELOW, IT ALSO CONTAINS SUGGESTIONS THAT MAKE THIS SET RUN BETTER!
  75. Now Here is the part of suggestions and Ideas to help this set
  76. I have found that Mega Charizard Y complements this pokemon's weaknesses. Gyarados has a huge weakness to fairy and fighting in 1v1, and with phasing not being a thing, it is almost certain that when using this set you might lose (depending on what pokemon you are facing)
  77. Charizard Y resists both of those weaknesses, which can really help. While doing tesing with Villarulez, a tester for this set, we found out that Scarfed Togekiss and Mega Mawile are huge threats. With Charizard Y on your team, you can easily Ohko the fairies with Blast burn/Overheat. We also noticed that it might not work the best against stall Alakazam, with Encore/torment/etc. If gyarados were to taunt this set, it might be locked into it if Alakazam uses protect the first turn, which allows him to use Encore succesfully. We also have noticed Whimsicott is a problem as well for Gyarados, but Charizard Y covers that problem nicely. If you dont taunt first turn, you are destined to lose from Leech Seed stall. Mega Charizard Y is also a good "bait" for getting in Heracross, which was the intended use of this pokemons set. With gyrados and charizard Y being weak to rock type moves, this easily makes heracross a perfect choice.
  78. Heavy Slam Aggron can also be a problem, if your opponent doesnt mega and caries sturdy as an ability, it might be harder to work around. I have found that if you use bounce first turn and break aggrons sturdy, Heavy Slam wont do much in return seeing how Steel Resist Flying. Then you can just DD and go for a outrage/bounce. The last Problem with this set is stab normal or Pixilate.
  79. With Hyper Beam Mega Gardeivor and Scarfed/Specs Porygon, which both running hyper beam, it has a great chance to ohko, but obviously Chaizard Y would also help fill this gap.
