- Instruction:
- 1. Clean hand tools - Keep hand tools in good, clean condition with 2 rags, one should be lint-free to clean precision instruments, other should be oily to prevent corrosion
- 2. Clean floor jacks - wipe off oil or grease from the floor jack, check for fluid leaks
- 3. Clean electrical power tools - brushing off any dust and wiping off excess oil or grease
- 4. clean air powered tools - apply few drops into the inlet of the tool everyday
- 5. Clean hoists and heavy machinery - locate the check list for each hoist , then clean operating mechanisms and attachments of excess oil or grease
- Identifying faulty tools
- 1. Tag faulty hand tools - Basic tools that are broken or worn should be replaced, tag the tool as faulty or broken
- 2. Tag faulty power tools - identified as faulty, due to failure parts, tagged and set aside
- 3. Fill out disabled vehicle warning notice - Isolation tags are used on disabled vehicles, complete the warning notice, filling in Registration number, Nature of defect, Name, Date
- 4. Store the keys

- Compressed air equipments can kill
- Compressed air can penetrate ordinary work cloths and skin, handle tool carefully with respect
- Check breathing apparatus
- Rolling road & Break testing equipment
- Serious injuries can result from attempting to make adjustments to vehicles while they are operating
- Access to the area where testing is happening should be restricted when testing
- Batteries and chargers
- Motor vehicle batteries can give you a powerful shock, always treat batteries with care and respect
- Remove rings, watches and bracelets, they are conductive which can cause injury and damage to the battery
- Battery gives off hydrogen gas, which is explosive
- Be extra careful when charging a battery, careful not to create spark
- Do not try to charge battery faster than it could allow, if the battery starts heating, wait for it to cool down
- Vehicle inspection pits
- Pit traps flammable vapour such as fuel, paint, increasing the risk of explosion and polluting the breathable air
- Use air tools instead of electric tools, it cannot cause sparks or ignite flammable gasses
- ` Don't use a hand lamp, even a low voltage hand lamp can set off an explosion
- Pits are very easy to fall into, so be careful
- Wheels & Tires safety
- Precautions:
- - Always use correct lifting techniques
- - Never weld or cut a wheel when tire is still attached
- - Use protective gloves
- - Wash hands after if did not wear gloves
- - wear protective clothing
- Deflating and removing tires
- - An inflated tire is pressure vessel that must be treated with care and respect
- - Raise and support the vehicle safely
- - Use the correct tools to remove wheel nuts, and levering tires off the wheels
- - Always fully deflate the tire before doing repair tasks
- - When removing a tire forma wheel, keep hands clear
- Re-inflating and balancing tires
- - When the tire is being inflated, stand clear of the tire
- - inflator should have a "dead man's hand" control so that it stops inflating when pressure on the inflator lever is released
- - keeps hands and body away from the area of the tire
- - inflate a new or refitted tire without replacing the valve core
- - over inflated tires can explode
- - do not come in contact with the rotating wheel during balancing
