Maybe this question was asked with an air of superiority that slammed through the text. Maybe not. Maybe it was said in sarcasm with a derogatory intent. Maybe not. But it *is* a valid question and now that I’m past my initial knee-jerk reaction, I’ve decided to take a few minutes to answer this as honestly and with as much insight as possible.

Facebook has 1.2 billion people on it. I can think of no better way to spread information to the masses than a Facebook post or page. I am not an elitist, even though I could be 1337 should I choose to be. I would rather spread the message to tens of thousands of people than be an internet snob and reach a few thousand.

Facebook is where the majority of people who do not understand IRC, Twitter, UseNet or the Internet in general are. While some people comprehend IRC apps for Android, the majority don’t. Since part of being Anonymous is spreading awareness of corruption, cruelty, abuse and in general motherfuckery, spreading it to the largest amount of people with the least effort seems to make sense.

Through Facebook I’ve come in contact with people from all over the planet. We’ve shared ideas, culture, values, hopes, fears, wishes and dreams. I know some of their families and they know mine. And yes- we know each other’s real names, real places of residence etc. While I understand that some people have an absolute need for anonymity, that isn’t a priority of mine at this time. My priority is raising as much awareness in as short a period of time as is humanly possible.’

Yes, Facebook is a mass surveillance tool used by alphabet agencies. Yes. There are paid disinformation agents on it spreading propaganda and bullshit. Yes, it tracks you, puts up adds based on your “like” clicks and yes, messenger is totally fubar. Are you telling me that someone who is as knowledgeable, informed, computer savvy and elite can’t work around this? If so, I call bullshit. Also, as a Freedom Fighter and Champion for Justice, why aren’t you on Facebook telling the “ordinary people” how to avoid all this? *I*DO*

So. Let me sum this up. Why Guy Fawkes masks on Facebook? Why Anonymous on Facebook? To spread the message.

Why? Because fuck off – I can.
