Role:

Shiala was once a devoted servant to Matriarch Benezia, Liara's mother. She serves aboard the Broker's ship as head of security. Shiala reveals that it was not the Thorian connection which helped her fight off indoctrination, but the Prothean Cipher. TIM had not made the connection when infiltrating the Shadow Base with Dr. Eva that possibly salvagable remnants of of Cipher could be found within Shiala's brain, or Eva would have surely dissected her instead of Shepard.

A skilled huntress with slightly telepathic links to the people of Zhu's Hope, Shiala's biotics are capable of incredible detonations, and her skill with assault rifles and shotguns makes her even deadlier. Shiala's sensitivity to the Cipher allows her to discover the enterance to the Hidden Wards while searching for the Prothean V.I on the Citadel, which grants the Commander Pashek Vran's V.I. She is also a romantic interest for both male and female Shepard, though female Shepard must actively pursue her.

Recruitment:

Shiala can be found on the Shadow Base's docking bay after Shepard completes his mission on Klencory. Coming in from the exterior of the station, Shiala was performing maintainence on the station's outer defenses. She dusts off and greets Shepard enthusiastically. Shiala tells Shepard that most of Zhu's Hope has bunkered down and is being protected by a security force granted by the major corporations there, which spurred her to rejoin Liara as she would no longer be needed on Feros. Shiala wanted to work for Liara, knowing her family's struggles against the Reapers and their thralls. Shepard suggests that Shiala join him on the Normandy, now that Liara is busy being the Broker, and Shiala asks for permission from Liara, who of course agrees.

Shiala joins the crew of the Normandy as an outsider. Many on the crew fear that if she was indoctrinated by Saren once, she could be a liability again. Shiala explains that she is able to resist the Reapers because of the Prothean Cipher. Shepard is surprised, and Shiala tells him that this is one of the reasons she wishes to accompany him, to discover more about the nature of the Reapers, Protheans, and Cipher within her mind. Furthermore her Cipher could prove useful when tampering with ancient relics like the one found on Klencory. Agreeing that they share a unique connection, Shepard supports her presense on the ship.

Shiala is a permenant squad-mate, acting as a replacement for Liara (now a temporary squad mate).

Notable character intaractions:

On the Normandy she often interacts with Garrus if not pursued by female Shepard, whom she seems to like. Eventually she pursues a romantic relationship with him which Shepard can condemn or condone.

Many aliens, particularly batarians, comment on Shiala's appearance, which makes the asari huntress slightly uncomfortable. Her green skin is unique among the asari, and is a side affect of her time with the Thorian. Despite this it has only made her more desireable, especially with batarians, humans, and asari.


On Omega Shiala's image is plastered on a wanted sign with a reward of 500,000 credits. The Director desperately wants to capture Shiala so he can examine the effects of the Thorian parasitic spores and their relationship to the Cipher and combating indoctrination.
