  3. While the internet seems to be obsessed with cats, the rest of the world and large other portions of the internet agree that dogs are the superior pet. The two domestic animals have vastly different stereotypical "personalities."
  4.
  5. Cats are:
  6.
  7. *More introverted
  8. *More self-absorbed, self-oriented
  9. *More entitled
  10. *Less dependent on an owner
  11.
  12. Dogs are:
  13.
  14. *More extroverted
  15. *More loyal and caring toward an owner/people in general
  16. *Less entitled, will take what they get
  17. *Pretty dependent on an owner
  18. *Follows comands
  19.
  20. Both are:
  21.
  22. *Soft
  23. *Like to be petted
  24.
  25. From the list above, it would seem clear that dogs are the better pet. However, I disagree with this superficial conclusion.
  26.
  27. Everyone knows that "bitch" means "female dog." But what exactly is a bitch? Well, the word can mean a number of things:
  28.
  29. 1. Synonymous with "dick," except for females; an unnecessarily mean person.
  30.
  31. "That bitch stole my $20 and then flipped me off." (please forgive my example sentences)
  32.
  33. 2. A repetitively bothersome person or thing.
  34.
  35. "This scrape is a real bitch, it's been hurting for four days."
  36.
  37. 3. A person who is excessively loyal to the point of sacrificing dignity and perhaps free will.
  38.
  39. "Yeah, I made her want it so bad that she does whatever I say. She's my bitch now."
  40.
  41. I don't think the first definition really matches the literal definition, so we'll not talk about that. The second definition makes some sense. Some dogs bark constantly or are too dependent on their owner to the point of annoyance. The final definition is the one I want to focus on, however.
  42.
  43. People are always so happy with their dogs' behavior. A well trained dog will always be by its non-abusive owner's side and do its owner's bidding. A dog will fetch. A cat will not. A dog is willing to be leashed. Cats are not. Dogs will wear (though somewhat distressedly) coats and tiny clothes that their owners put on them. People value their dogs because their dogs do whatever they want them to do.
  44.
  45. What this means is that people are really just using their dogs as a free pass for someone or something that will do what they want and will always like them, no matter how much they mess up. Dogs are bitches. They are loyal to the point where they have no dignity. This is an extremely respectable trait when looking at dogs in general, but it is not a reason why humans should like dogs.
  46.
  47. Many people would say, "My dog will love me no matter what." People do not deserve to have their dog love them no matter what, they deserve to get out of the relationship what they put in.
  48.
  49. Having a cat love you takes a lot of time and work. A cat does not need you, and sometimes does not even want you around. Learning a cat's social cues can take several years. Why would a cat want to be around someone who pets them in an uncomfortable way? Why would a cat want to be with someone who forgets to feed them? Cats don't want to be with those people, so they scratch them, won't snuggle with them, and aren't good pets to those people. This is fair.
  50.
  51. What irks me is that the mentality of "dog people" is that they don't have to work to have something love them, and that's what they like about dogs. They want free love and support from an animal and don't concern themselves with working for it. Many would argue that they do work for it. They have to pick up their dog's poop in the lawn and feed it. They do not even think about the emotional side of putting work and effort into their relationship with their pet. Do they ever spend alone time with their dogs, just petting them and talking to them?
  52.
  53. Perhaps. That is how I am going to conclude this piece. Some dog owners are equal or better than cat owners. Many dog owners put far more time into their pet(s) than cat owners. The point here is that a dog owner can put in zero effort and still have their pet love them while a cat owner cannot, and this can create a freeloader mentality among dog owners.
