  6. 雨Jacob 雨 __ Except it's not completely vacuous. Unlike Jon Stewart, not everyone in the comments section is/was in a position to know. I'll ask you what Mr Stewart asked the questioner: _Don't you know who Jon Stewart is?_ Rightly or wrongly, he's a guy that for many years a lot of people got their "news" from.
  7.
  8. If the Louis C.K. interview with Jon Stewart took place *after* the rumours were circulating, it becomes reasonable to think that (at the least) Jon's research team knew about them. Since nothing was asked about it during the interview it suggests a decision was made not to bring it up.
  9.
  10. Therefore it is not unreasonable to think that Jon Stewart (or those who advise him) knew about the rumours. Remember, the questioner is asking whether Jon Stewart *knew* about the rumours - not whether they were true or anything like that. Jon Stewart completely denied knowledge of the rumours and because that seems like a stretch (when you consider who Jon Stewart is, his research team, his connections to Louis C.K.), people are justifiably skeptical.
  11.
  12. Finally, just because Mr Stewart denied knowing about the rumours does not mean he didn't actually know about them. Plenty of people who are guilty of an accusation will deny it! Of course that does not mean everyone who denies an accusation is guilty, but if later on we find out Mr Stewart really *did* know, then that makes things *a lot* worse!

  20. 雨Jacob 雨 __ Remember that the question was *_"have you heard the rumours"_* and not _"are the rumours true?"_ Like I said, guilty people deny accusations all the time. And so rather than be forced to take the word of a potentially guilty person we can instead ask if it's plausible that Jon Stewart's research team didn't catch wind of the rumours prior to Stewart's interview with Louis C.K.
  21.
  22. Is it likely that Jon Stewart's research team didn't encounter the rumours in preparation for the interview? It's always possible they didn't, but is that more likely than Jon Stewart later denying it if they did?
  23.
  24. I accept that only Jon Stewart can know the true answer and so we cannot assert that he did know about something without actual evidence. But at the same time, I also think the skepticism aimed at Jon Stewart - _even if he genuinely didn't know_ - has some merit.
  25.
  26. Why? Because Jon Stewart is not some random person who isn't "in the loop". Don't you know who Jon Stewart is?! But, just as we'd expect from a guilty person - during Stewart's reply he was careful to make clear he wasn't in the loop! Effectively reasoning: _"I can't have known about the rumours because I am not in the loop, leave me alone!"_
  27.
  28. But upon scrutiny that's weak considering plenty of people who have nothing to do with C.K. at all still *heard* about the rumours. After all, the lowly questioner had heard about them!
