- > Yawning sleepily a now fat black cat observes the leaves and other colorful creatures moving about the ground
- > Fluffy ponies play happily once more in the meadow
- > The horrible summer a distant memory
- > Munching on grass and the renaming flowers greedily
- > All in preparation for the coming cold
- > An old gray fluffy yawns while he watches his herd play happily and eat their fill
- > Due to bad fluffies, weather, and accidents his herd is unusually small this year
- > Many stallions didn't survive the "saddest wawa time"
- > He put down the rebellious fluffies with poison berries he keeps in a small room behind the food storage
- > When he was young the fluffy gave bad fluffies big huwties for punishment
- > He was a very strong unicorn, and he kept the herd safe, like his daddy before him
- > His daddy was...
- > He pouts trying to remember his father
- > This fluffy is almost 6
- > All he remembers was a strong gray fluffy like he used to be
- > As the old fluff thinks a yellow and black unicorn waddles up
- > "Hewwo pointeh daddeh, hewd haff wossa nummies, why yuu nuu eat nummies?"

- > The parents vaguely recognize other adults around them as their children
- > They only remember the sad ones vividly
- > Zippeh and Zippee during the hot time, Wiffer during the saddest water time, and a foal snatched by the sad birds without a name just a month ago
- > Other families have had it even harder
- > Buzzy's sister Flower has lost all of her children in seven different litters
- > Flower then lost her husband in the saddest water time
- > She hasn't spoken since silently eating on grass and sleeping all the time
- > Flower's husband got bad nummies by the old gray fluff
- > Buzzy still doesn't know what to think about that
- > Looking at the old, kind, sleepy fluffy he feels happy
- > He's got the oldest daddy of any herd!
- > But, when he thinks about seeing Pointy so mad
- > The yellow fluff shakes his black mane
- > "nuu, daddeh good, giff bad nummies tuu bad fwuffies, good fwuffies get good nummies"
- > That settles it in a fluffy mind
- > Though the doubt still lingers in the back of his head
- > Across the field fillies and colts play as adults pack on as much fat as they can
- > Were it not for the extra reserves of energy the herd would be extremely sluggish with weight
- > No fluffies are allowed to have more babies
- > Gray fluff said so, "Cowd time commin! Tuu cowd fow bebbehs! Bebbehs haff wongest sweepies in cowdest time!"
- > "Bad fwuffies who haff speciaw huggies an bebbehs naow awe bad fwuffies!"
- > The recent memory of his power scares many fluffies into celibacy
- > The ornery young colts are kept in line by mothers and mares alike
- > Several have been beaten off while trying to give their first special hugs
- > "Buuuh! Buuh! buh! Fwuffy haffa giff good feww! Nee giff speciaw huggies suu bad!"
- > A smack on the sack by an angry mare fixes that
- > "NUU! Bad fwuffies haff speciaw huggies befowe cowd time! NUU Wan bebbehs tu sweepies fowevah!"
- > Despite the rigorous prevention tactics there is one dam waddling around the field
- > She's been ostracized by the herd
- > A young filly who had the "hawt speciaw feww" she gave sex to an older stallion who lost his mare
- > But, after the herd found out he was banished to the forest beyond
- > Now alone she will have to raise the foals single handed
- > It will be another week or so before she is ready to birth
- > Dangerously close to winter
- > Until then the herd packs fat onto their frail bodies
- > Even colts and fillies are beginning to become plumper in preparation
- > Soon the disobedient mare births
- > Alone she bears her children beneath the old tree
- > Miraculously both of her children survive
- > Once she has cleaned them she is out eating to make milk
- > Then the gray fluff appears
- > His herd watch nervously from a distance
- > "What yuu wan? Hafta eat wossa nummies an make miwkies fow bebbehs"
- > The herd is silent, both fearful and expectant for their elder to speak
- > "Mummah... yuu nuu wissen tuu hewd... haff bebbehs befowe cowd... bebbehs wownt wive..."
- > The mother is taken aback
- > "Mummah good fwuffy! Giff wossa miwkies tuu bebbehs! Bebbehs nuu sweepies foweffa! Bebbehs guud an heawfy!"

- > "NUU! MUMMAH GOOD NUU BAD GOOD! BABBEHS NUU SWEEPIES MUMMAH GOOD!"
- > The mare is screaming and crying despite no perceivable danger
- > Gray fluff have never killed or banished a mother they're too valuable to the herd
- > The foals begin peeping for help afraid of the loud noises
- > "Mummah... bad... fwuffy... Yuu! Nuu! Keep! BEBBEHS!"
- > With that the old fluffy bucks the mother over bruising an eye and causing the foals to fall onto the cold ground
- > "eep! eep! eep! eep! eep! eep!"
- > They wiggle on the ground too small to speak, see, hear properly, or move
- > They haven't even spoken their first word
- > Just a few minutes they entered the world
- > And now an ancient fluffy is going to take them out of it
- > "Dis cause yuu nuu wissen TUU HEWD!"
- > The old stallion drops a foot on the fragile neck of each foal
- > Before the mother can even right herself the foals are motionless
- > Totally still save hungry mouths begging for help
- > The gray fluffy sheds a tear
- > "D..duhmmy mummah... Why.. why nuu wissen... why?"
- > Tears flowing freely he leaves the sobbing mother
- > Slowly the herd too leaves the mare with her still silently crying children
- > Soon she is all alone, save her two foals not even able to say mummah
- > "M..m..m..m.. huuu huu hummm.muummaaahhh suuu sowwwy bebbbehhhhhs ahh..... hhhuu huu huu huu huu..."
- > "Muummah suu sowwy..."
- > She cries over the now motionless foals till sundown
- > A sobbing mare is heard throughout the community now hunkered in their burrows
- > Then as the fluffies drift into sleep the first snow falls
- > Covering the innocent bodies
- > Fated to die by a foolish young mare and proud old fluffy
