- > Buddy Invite Mechanics
- First off, ask for a buddy invite in the thread and include your email
- address. Your trial is 21 days if you use an invite and 14 days if you don't,
- so there's no reason not to get one.
- (1) If you use a buddy invite and then later subscribe with real money, your
- inviter is rewarded with a PLEX, which he *might* sell and split with you
- (significant cash for a newbro). (2) If you subscribe by getting enough ISK
- to buy and activate a PLEX, your inviter is rewarded with 30 nontransferrable
- days of game time.
- In /eog/, a 50/50 reward split is common courtesy, though some offer better.
- The ONLY way you can be sure of the name of your recruiter is if they enable
- "Friend Connect" on their end. Click the link in your invite mail to check if
- a player's name is on the invite webpage: http://i.imgur.com/YJ2s9zG.jpg If
- you are hoping to get a reward split, don't use any invites without names!
- The ONLY way your recruiter can be sure of who you are is if you do NOT tick
- the box on the account creation page labelled "Do NOT connect me with my
- inviter". If you are hoping to get a reward split, don't tick this box!
- > Why can't YOU post a referral link instead of ME posting an email?
- 4chan Global Rule #11: Advertising (all forms) is not welcome—this includes
- any type of referral linking, "offers", soliciting, begging, stream threads,
- etc.
- Your single post containing an email address spams the thread less than 4 or 5
- people all posting referral links (all garbled or pastebinned to get around
- the spam filter), not to mention the slippery slope to posting unsolicited
- referrals and "guys it would really be a help to a newbro if you could use my
- link" etc., etc.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > Where do I find you guys?
- Join the in-game chat channel "/v/ bros". There is no official /v/vg/ corp,
- though there are a some corps/alliances with mostly /v/vg/ players.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > Can I make enough ISK to PLEX during the trial?
- If you have to ask, you can't do it.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > I just started, what should I do?
- Mess with the Opportunities, then press F12 > "Show Career Agents" and run ALL
- of their missions (yes, run the mining missions even if you're planning to
- PVP, the industry missions even if you're planning to explore, etc); they give
- you ISK, ships, skillbooks and teach you the basics.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > Is it too late to get into EVE?
- No.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > You have to have high SP to play EVE, so it's too late.
- This is incorrect on many levels.
- 1) Anyone can be useful with even under 1M SP, and there is nothing stopping
- you from doing some cheap T1 frig solo pvp, which some argue is some of the
- most fun to be had in the game. A tackler and scout is a necessary addition to
- any small, medium or large sized gang, and you can scout in a rookie ship.
- Specializing 1M SP in the right place can beat 100M SP in the wrong place. Not
- to mention that new players can get into very useful (and arguably
- overpowered) ewar and logistics frigates/cruisers very fast.
- 2) SP does NOT equate skill. Skill comes through experience, not having
- overpowered ships, characters and implants. Someone with 100M+ SP, a high
- grade slave set and a full officer fit can be killed by a new player under the
- right circumstances. And easily by a group of new players. 3) If you are so
- concerned about SP, you can simply buy a high SP character on the bazaar. P2W?
- Just make enough isk to afford it.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > What is a PLEX?
- PLEX is short for 30 Day Concord Pilot License Extension. It's an in-game item
- that can be used to pay for your subscription without using more traditional
- payment methods.
- EVE players can pay for their account with in-game money, ISK, by buying
- PLEXes off the market. When you sign up for a trial via an invite link, the
- person who invited you can get transferred a PLEX if you upgrade to a paying
- subscription, and he can then sell it and transfer funds to you, which can be
- a great asset for a new player.
- _______________________________________________________________________________
- > A primer as to why /eog/ does not need tripcodes, -fags and -friends
- In EVE online, the meta of who you are, your corp, what alliance you belong
- to, your history, and what you personally have done is important. Therefore,
- each post will never be judged on its weight alone, but on who posted it. Each
- post will have needless amounts of meta which will throw off actual game
- discussion. Say a hisec carebear has an opinion? Yell at him for mining.
- Someone in nullsec? Make fun of him for being a nullbabby. Someone in X shitty
- alliance? Make fun of them and disregard their post.
- In addition to the fact that in earlier threads (like last year) 90% of the
- posts would be only 3-4 people, it would magnify the shitposting to a grand
- degree. People would simply post to rile people up (hello mr. unclaimed) and
- to ignite shitposting (we already have enough of this with race).
- So it goes beyond the whole '4chan hates trips' thing. It doesn't matter
- whether in this particular thread *you* make some 'quality' posts. We've
- consistently yelled at trips until they stop, because without this we descend
- to become the tripfag circlejerk that plagues /vg/ (though apparently
- moderation is kicking up, I don't know since this is the only /vg/ thread I
- visit on a regular basis)
- So, in short, that's why. If you want to post with your name, there is kugu,
- FHC, hell the fucking news sites and god forbid evegate.

- > Starter PvP guide:
- There's close-range play (for frigates, some 1km-14km); and there's keeping
- range (with the option for disengage and for mitigating damage through
- proximity and powerful modules).
- It's probably best starting out with videos of one of the most interesting
- playstyles, manual piloting. Here's a video discussing real flight techniques

- This is a video on one of those "powerful modules" which can even out the

- > Where do I find fights?
- If you are looking for PvP, you will find people most places in lowsec, but
- faction warfare space (use dotlan / the faction warfare windows in-client)
- will have more people and more places for you to hide.
- If you are wanting to make money, a defensive plex (in your own faction's
- space) is at best (99.9% contest) 3/4 the value of the equivalently sized
- offensive plex and at worst (0% contest) has no payout at all. Offensive
- plexes have a flat payout based on size; contest level doesn't matter.
