  1. So Waffru was a IRC player like I was at the time. I didn't know him basically at all because he was WC but that changed when I learned that a couple of people set up a Mumble. We didn't have many but we had a nice bunch of mostly EC players. I'm not sure why Waffru joined the mumble but I can guess it was for the same reason that the rest of us did: because talking with people while playing is fun. Eventually we grew a bit and Waffru joined. Wombat (a mumble user) decided to host the first big netplay tourney through challonge (which was a great idea) and it pulled in a lot of players. I decided to host "Friday Funday Fights" right after Wombat's tourney because having a tourney on just Sunday would probably be bad. So Friday seemed a reasonable date. Wombat and I then thought of something brilliant: we nned people to stream these matches! So we asked around our friends in the mumble who could stream, and Waffru wanted to so that was cool cause we liked him. I set him as a co host for my tourney, even, since he was streaming the matches from my tournies. We played quite a bit, and I was never close to him, but we got along. The only thing that bothered me when we played is that Waffru would really commonly complain that Luigi was easily the worst character in the game, even though he would regularly beat me. All of us on the mumble argued with him that Luigi wasn't the worst and he would get really defensive. I never confronted him about it personally but it really got on people's nerves because it was frustrating to lose to him and then have him claim that he's playing a pichu tier character.
  2. So then one day playing him I had had enough listening to it and flat out told him he was wrong and that his complaining was really irritating. I'm not quite sure to be honest what I exactly said, so I could have been an ass about it. It's possible. Either way Waffru said... "You know what? You really are an asshole." And then he left. I remember that quote pretty clearly. After that, he only came on rarely to stream in a room that was locked and only he and his buddies could use it. Eventually, he stopped coming to Mumble altogether. I then learned that he created a server on TeamSpeak for him and his friends, one that he had control over. He thought that people there that he hated (including me and a few others) bugged him enough that he left. It kinda pissed me off, but it was probably for the best. After a while of him streaming his own thing and dropping his relations with everyone on the mumble (that didn't follow him at least) I watched a bit of his stream to see what the hype was about. I commented in chat about how I didn't like his commentary and he really didn't respond well. He told me that if I didn't like his commentary, then I could stop watching his stream and that he wouldn't care. It was pretty agressive, anyway that you looked at it. I PM'd him asking (quoted from PMs) "hey waffru if you really have bad blood on me I would like to talk it out and not let it fester because I think there should be no reason for hostility one way or the other." He replied saying "I've said nothing. It was all you. Drop it. " I replied back asking if he really wanted to do that. To his credit he later replied apoligizing for his behavior then and before and we more or less patched it up. We weren't buddy buddy for sure, but we didn't interact for a long time. Over time though, I saw his behavior in a lot of the drama with smashladder and the way everyone adored him even past that didn't sit well with me. Over time I got more and more unsettled by Waffru. I'm not sure why, to be honest. I guess I was the one who couldn't let bygones be bygones. Maybe I could equate it to a lot of problems with him as a mod on anther's ladder, or the fact ladder was becomming more memey and bleh, or maybe I'm just a stubborn asshole. I guess it doesn't really matter in the end. More and more passive agressiveness towards my friends and I, and more and more drama and my own increasing intolerance to bullshit set the stage for the more recent incident with the banning. So there you go, that's Waffru and I's history. It's... rocky at best. We did have some nice times together. I can say that. But I can also say there were a lot more bad times. It's really both of our faults in the end, because while Waffru may have a super huge ego, I can't let people go around with super huge egos. It was a recipe for disaster since the beginning. I probably hate him a lot less than he hates me to be honest, and that's saying something. Anyway, Waffru story time is over.
