- > It does not feel like long before the nurse returns.
- > She tells you that she needs you back in the room with Twilight.
- > You wonder why.
- > All in good time.
- > You walk through the door back into the room to see Twilight laying on top of the blankets, the wires that were connected to her have been removed.
- > She appears to have calmed down completely while you were out.
- > She does look uncomfortable though.
- > You silently wonder if that is because of her wound or because of you.
- > You aren't sure which one to hope for.
- > The only thing that stops you from asking is knowing you would hate to hear either answer.
- > The nurse pipes up in a rather cheery tone.
- > "So just to verify, you are Anonymous correct?"
- > You nod.
- > The nurse turns to Twilight.
- > "And you are comfortable being released to hi-"
- > She turns her head to you a look of puzzlement on her face.
- > "You are male, correct?"
- > You nod again and she turns back to Twilight.
- > "Right, anyway. You're comfortable being released into his care this afternoon for the duration of your recovery?"
- > Twilight looks confused.
- > You know you would look it as well, if you could.
- "Pardon me ma'am, but I think there may be some form of mistake, I am not Twilight's caretaker."
- > The nurse looks over her shoulder at you again.
- > "You've been here almost every waking moment of the last eighteen days and you aren't her caretaker?"
- > You slowly shake your head.
- > "Then why is your name on her release form as her legally appointed guardian?"
- > "What?"
- "What?"
- > Both you and Twilight share the same thought on this one, it seems.
- > The nurse begins to walk over to the door.
- > "One moment please!"
- > With that she exits and darts off down the hall.
- > You look at Twilight who is looking at you with a raised eyebrow.
- > You meet the raised eyebrow with a shrug.
- > Not just a slight shoulder movement, oh no.
- > This is a hands in front, palms turned up, "I have no idea what the fuck is going on," shrug.
- > Shortly after your brief expression based communication the nurse returns carrying a small stack of paperwork.
- > Oh boy, can't wait to not be able to read things!
- > You need to learn the written language as soon as you can.
- > The nurse brings the papers to you.
- > "Ifs vis ore 'ignatore?"
- > A raised eyebrow is the only reason you know that was a question.
- > You look down at the paper and skim over it until you get to a dotted line.
- > You can't read anything on the page but you recognize one thing.
- > The mark of your Ghurla on the dotted line.
- > You take hold of the papers and look at it more closely.
- > The lines are all correct, it's definitely your mark.
- > The nurse asks again.
- > "So, is this not your signature?"
- > You look up at her.
- "No, it is just an identifying mark."
- > The nurse just stares at you for a second.
- > "So it's LIKE a signature then?"
- > You consider that for a moment.
- "Well yes, I suppose it could be but I-"
- > "Great! Than it shouldn't be an issue."
- > You walk over and place the papers on the bed near Twilight, then turn back to the nurse.
- "So what does this entail exactly?"
- > "Well we leave the living arrangements and logistics to you two, but basically you just make sure she doesn't do anything to strain the injury."
- > Seems simple enough.
- > Which means...
- "So what is the catch?"
- > The nurse looks at you puzzled.
- > "What do you mean?
- "Nothing is simple, there is always a catch or something to complicate a task, so what is it?"
- > The nurse shakes her head.
- > "Nothing, that really is all you need to do."
- > No quest to find a plant that will cure her of some strange aliment that afflicted her at the last second?
- > No need to find and defeat some ancient-evil-in-a-can that some cult summoned for some vague reason that will never be explained?
- > Just... take care of her while she recovers...
- > Oh wait, that's a complication in and of itself.
- > You have no idea how to take care of an intelligent miniature purple unicorn.
- > You look over at the bed to see Twilight reading over the papers.
- "It is entirely her choice."
- > Twilight keeps reading through the papers.
- > You notice that when she turns a page she does so with a hoof rather than magic.
- > Given everything you've seen so far, you figure magic is involved in that in some way, but that's beside the point.
- > You'll ask about that later.
- > The nurse speaks up from beside you.
- > "So Twilight, are you alright with all this?"
- > She turns the last page over and looks at the back before looking up at the nurse.
- > "Well I don't have a problem with it, I'm just wondering why you have so many waivers here for me to sign."
- > Waivers?
- > The nurse pipes in before you can state your confusion.
- > "Oh that's just standard fare for when we release somep0ny into away care with a member of another race."
- > So they release their kind into the care of "other races" on a regular basis?
- > That strikes you as a little bit off.
- > Perhaps it is because of the common mistrust between races in your home-world.
- > You also wonder what "other races" exist here.
- > You know humans don't anymore.
- > What were those languages?
- > Draconic was one.
- > So what, did they release p0nies into the care of dragons?
- > That would likely explain the waivers.
- > Twilight speaks again.
- > "For that matter, who asked him to sign this anyway? These papers say, 'For being released into the care of a spouse or otherwise familiar member of another race.'
- > Apparently that doctor wasn't the only one to think Twilight was your creator.
- > That could actually work to your advantage.
- > The nurse replies.
- > "I don't really know, I'm just the attending nurse, somep0ny else handles all the files."
- > Twilight frowns slightly and you hear her murmur something about "inefficiency"
- > The nurse must have missed it because all she does is produce a pen and start running through the things that do and don't need signatures.
- > Once she finishes she takes the pen and papers back and mumbles through the pages.
- > "Ull e elease' la'er 'is 'orning."
- > The nurse takes the papers with her and leaves the room.
- > You look at Twilight.
- > She meets your gaze and speaks.
- > "So why did you sign that anyway?"
- "I did not sign it."
- > She cocks her head to the side and raises an eyebrow.
- > "Well, why did you put that mark on it then?"
- "I did not"
- > Her look of confusion deepens.
- > "Well who did than? For that matter, why agree if you didn't even sign it."
- > You point at her shoulder.
- "I am in no small part responsible for that injury, as such I am obligated to assist in your recovery."
- > You have an idea as to who signed it for you but for now...
- "As for your first question, I do not know who signed for me, nor do I particularly care."
- > You feel like your forgetting something...
- > Oh shit, the pseudo-lich.
- "By the way, I have a message to give for you."
- > She looks at you quizzically.
- > "From who?"
- > You think back.
- > He never did give you his name, did he?
- "I do not know his name, but he wished for me to apologize to you for him."
- > Her eyes slowly shift left and right like she is looking for something.
- > "He isn't exactly descriptive."
- > You hesitate to answer while you think of a way to say this without upsetting her.
- > After a moment you settle on something you hope will work.
- "The one who created the creatures that wounded you."
- > You continue.
- "He wished for me to relay to you his expressed regret over your injury. He never wished for you to become involved let alone to come to harm."
- > You watch as her expression goes from confused, to shocked, to angry.
- > "Well if 'He' "
- > She almost spit that word out.
- > "Is so sorry, then why doesn't he come and apologize to my face."
- > That was an unexpected reaction.
- "He is unable to."
- > She doesn't look any less angry.
- > "Why? Is he to afraid to face the consequences of his a-"
- > You raise a hand and speak.
- "Twilight, he is dead."
- > She falls silent and her expression slowly changes from one of anger to one of regret.
- > "Oh... Oh Celestia... I didn't mean to..."
- > She slumps down in the bed.
- > "I feel awful now..."
- "Do not feel to badly about it, you are well within your rights to be angry with him, dead or not."
- > She looks up at you and frowns slightly.
- > "That really doesn't help."
- > You shrug.
- > At least you tried.
- "So what arrangements will we need to make?"
- > "You just bounce from one subject to another that fast, huh?"
- > You nod.
- "I have been idle for over fourteen days, I wish to become productive again as soon as I can."
- > Almost as an after-thought you continue.
- "Besides, the sooner we make arrangements the sooner you can begin your recovery."
- > The offers a slight smile and nods.
- > "Alright... Let's get to it than."
