Backstory:
Growing up on the mean streets of Helsinki, Miika Makinen never had any aspirations. Learning to pick pockets and break into houses to keep food in his belly, all he ever really cared to do was petty crime. The cycle of poverty, big score, luxury, poverty had everything he really needed, and for just over thirty years it was enough, and a few short stints in prison (where he picked up the noble art of knife fighting) did nothing to change that. Unfortunately for him, a few notable incidents of betrayals by freelancers spooked the organized crime outfits, to the point that he could no longer keep this lifestyle up. After dodging a few hit squads that believed him to be involved in the betrayals, he resignedly blew the last of his cash on a flight to Seattle, to make a new life. Of course, since planes don't typically let you check a bunch of suspicious-as-fuck breaking and entering gear without permits, Miika was forced to pawn his gear in Helsinki, then take out a loan from the Yakuza to buy it all back again.

Repaying this loan will be both helped and hindered by old instincts from his early days as a thief. When one or two fenced items is the only buffer you have against starving or freezing, you tend to pad your total theft with as much extra stuff as you can carry, whether or not stealing is actually the job or not. While the extra money is often nice, it's gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion.

Appearance:
Thick and dour-looking, Miika is broad shouldered and has close cropped brown hair and blue eyes. He has a few prominent knife scars on his face, from close calls with knives. He's very athletic, but has a slight paunch on his belly that has never really gone away. He typically wears jeans, a hoodie, and a knit cap when out and about in the miserable Seattle weather.
