Die Kumpel David und Quinn werden an ihrer Highschool von den anderen nur als Nerds belächelt. Da gelingt ihnen das Kunststück, den Prototypen einer Zeitmaschine von Davids Vater zum Laufen zu bringen. Dank passend getimter Zeitreisen werden sie zu Stars auf jeder Party, schaffen es zu jedem Festival, zu dem sie Lust haben, bestehen ihre Prüfungen spielend und gewinnen im Lotto. Doch als David wegen seiner heimlichen Liebe einen Alleingang wagt, droht das Zeitgefüge irreparabele Schäden davon zu tragen.

Ein heutiges Zeitreiseabenteuer zugeschnitten auf ein junges Publikum ist "Project Almanac", in dem sich unter der Ägide von Blockbusterregisseur Michael Bay (u.a. die "Transformers"-Filme) ein junges, aufstrebendes Team vor (u.a. Johnny Weston, Sofia Black-D'Elia) und hinter der Kamera (Regisseur Dean Israelite) profilieren darf. Smart verbindet es Elemente aus Action-, Science-Fiction- und Teenager-Movies und präsentiert sie im Found-Footage-Look.
