  305. -> Man this takes a long time. Anyway, this is the first 3/10ths of the animation. Remember that a lot of the characters are not visible before the spotlight is put on them, so I was quite sloppy until the frame they become visible. Things should progress quite quickly from here, assuming I have time, as the rest of the shots have far fewer characters visible at once. anyway, hope you like it so far.

  484. 2) The ability to preview the render in the view-port is very useful and time saving.
  485. 3) Blender Internal(BI) render was also very difficult to set up complicated shaders with. The node system with cycles is also far more flexible than what BI had.
  486. 4) Cycles has the ability to use Open Shader Language, so you can code complicated shaders.
  487. 5) The lack of global illumination in BI looked really bad with emissive objects, like tron stuff.

The 500 series gpus are faster than the 600 and on par with the 700. 900 series cards are the best though, because they have enough VRAM to handle the larger scenes and are finally faster than the 500 series. However, CPU's are more reliable and have more features for cycles rendering.

  505. A: Nvidia cripples their cards compute and OpenGL capabilities in their newer series to sell Quadro/Tesla workstation cards. Even the 200 series has better OpenGL performance for productivity software than many newer cards. Specifically, the double precision floating point calculations are hit the hardest, and those are used all the time rendering for production. Games use single or half precision usually, so those aren't affected as much. As well, there probably was some difference in the architecture that negatively affected computer performance. AMD does similar crippling, but to a lesser extent than Nvidia. I wouldn't be surprised if the recent boost in compute with Maxwell was largely due to Nvidia reversing some of the crippling after seeing how many AMD cards sold from mining.

  532. A: Unreal Engine 4 by a good margin. It will become far more prevalent that Cryengine if it is not already. Crytec also ran into financial trouble, so who knows how long it will even be around. Once Unreal gets rolling with the new version, there are bound to be far more extensions too.
  533. Also, I agree that the blender game engine is horrible. I use blender not because I'm a shill, but because I genuinely like many aspects of the interface, workflow, tools, and extensions. However, it is not perfect overall, and aspects of it, such as the game engine, are hardly worth touching.
  534. Also, you might want to consider Unity, particularly because you mention freelance work. Getting into the larger projects that use Unreal is very difficult, and they typically don't use freelance artists anyway. Unity is much more popular among small developers where an inexperienced artists would stand a chance. Really though, learning any engine well is good.

  536. A: The workflows for importing assets probably differ to a reasonable extent, such as file formats. Not to mention, you'd need normal maps that are different for each engine because of the differences in tangent bias for smooth normal. The biggest challenge is that both engines are very different in the code, interface, and many other areas, so learning both is a huge undertaking.

It is also selected for efficiency, so the power consumption is great. Finally, there is better virtual support.   543. For the graphics card, you are best served by picking up a cheap 2gb 560ti or 570 used, assuming a good price and condition. Otherwise, buy a card with lots of vram, because that is what limits the complexity of your scenes, which the clock rates and such affect the time is takes to render only.

A: As long as you are not actually selling models or working for pay using unlicensed products, the software creators couldn't be any happier you are learning their software and developing a dependence on it. Should you eventually work for a company, it is their responsibility to pay for and provide the necessary software. The cost only really bites you if you freelance, but that is a long ways off probably, and who knows what software will be available then. Or, if you are freelancing, Blender usually works well enough, in conjunction with say photoshop and zbrush, for just about any freelance task.
  549. For the hardware, $1000 ish should grab a great build, with $600 for two monitors.
  550. A Xeon E3-1230 V2 paired with a decent nVidia card with extra vram (for CUDA, which most gpu renderers use) should suffice. The workstation cards are actually slower at rendering 3d animations, and they are targeted more at OpenGL rendering applications.

  599. The one in the pastebin is veeeeeery heavy for your computers because I tried to make all pieces of clothes separately to make it easier for the user to toggle which clothes he wants, sadly it didn't work as I expected.
  600. There's also many deformation problems with the legs that could probably be fixed editing the weighting paint and meshcages, I think. And the materials... I just can't get them right, so I skipped them completely when I was editing it.
