  1. I want to play old fighting games, but I am too lazy or stupid to google. What should I do?
  2.
  3. Don't worry, this guide is here to help you.
  4.
  5. 1. Install Adobe.AIR.
  6. http://get.adobe.com/air/
  7. 2. Download GGPO and extract it wherever you like. Just don't use your Windows drive partition. That includes your desktop.
  8. http://ggpo.net/ggpo-build-030.zip
  9. 3. Get the games you want to play. Pay attention to the "Mandatory" section.

  11. 4. Create a folder called "ROMs" inside your GGPO folder. Place all your freshly downloaded games inside it. DO NOT UNPACK THE ARCHIVES!
  12. 5. Launch ggpofba.exe. Go to Game - Load Game. Press "ROMs Dirs..." and choose your "ROMs" folder. Then press "Scan ROMs".
  13. 6. Check the checkbox "Show Available Only".
  14. 7. Click on the game you want to play and press "Play". Hit F5 to set up your controls.
  15. 8. Check your Video and Audio options and configure them to your liking. It's recommended to use the enhanced blitter and to set your "Stretch" option to "Correct aspect ratio". Be warned that you can't play online with disabled audio.
  16. 9. Right click on ggpofba.exe. Go to Properties - Compatibility - Disable Desktop Composition.
  17. 10. Launch ggpo.exe. Create an account and log in.
  18. 11. If you can see your own ping, that means everything is fine and you are ready to go.
  19. 12. If not, open UDP ports 6000-6009 (inbound/outbound) and TCP port 7000 (outbound). Visit portforward.com if you have no idea what that means.
  20.
  21. Misc stuff
  22.
  23. If you can't connect to each other, try cross-challenge: you challenge your opponent, he challenges you at the same time. You both hit accept. One window should launch the game for both of you, the other will remain black: you can close it.
  24.
  25. Look for players under 180 ping.
  26.
  27. Press T to chat in-game.
  28.
  29. The "Smoothing" option in the "Options" menu is responsible for the input delay during matches. The default value will do just fine, but if you want to play against someone far away, try increasing the "Frames" value.
