- Operation Facebook
- IRC (Port 6667): irc.anonops.li #OperationFacebook
- !There has been a gross misunderstanding caused by the popularized video concerning #OperationFacebook, made by a non-native speaker of English. The word "kill" was used and interpreted liberally by various media outlets to mean a direct hacking attack on the infrastructure of Facebook. This interpretation is distracting from the context of the rest of the message, which aims to warn citizens in a concentrated and creative way of the privacy and security risks involved in using Facebook.!
- What is OperationFacebook?
- - OperationFacebook is anti-Facebook campaign.
- We want to :
- - expose to everyone that Facebook sells private data of their users
- - scorn Facebook as much as possible in as many ways as we can scheme up
- - be sure the public and Fb knows why are we doing it
- - convince as many people as we can to leave Fb
- Our main goal is to inform society about the dangers of using
- Facebook, we want to inform everyone that Facebook is not private and
- that it's selling user data to companies that work for the government.
- The anonymity has been taken from us and we want it back.
- What’s wrong with Fb?
- - Facebook is now the largest database of people on the planet. This data is
- made available to law enforcement and companies. Private data is not well protected
- and can be easily stolen. Facebook does not respect privacy by keeping and selling
- all private content posted on its platform. Applications can access your profile.
- Information on one's profile is still Facebook's property even after profile
- deactivation. Facebook can be used to steal from people, hurt them, and manipulate
- them.
- - Over 600 million people are registered at Facebook. That means the data of
- 600 million people is visible to everyone in the world wide web, there's absolutely
- no anonymity. Even the privacy policy of Facebook doesn't assure you of anonymity.
- Something about privacy policy of Fb.
- - In Facebook privacy policy it's stated that: "We allow advertisers to
- choose the characteristics of users...and we may use any of the non-personally
- identifiable attributes we have collected (including information you may have
- decided not to show to other users, such as your birth year or other sensitive
- personal information or preferences)to select the appropriate audience for those
- advertisements."
- - You also allow Facebook to place a cookie in your browser: "...there is a
- possibility that the advertiser may place a cookie in your browser..."
- - It's also written there that Facebook logs nearly every action you do
- there:" We keep track of some of the actions you take on Facebook, such as adding
- connections (including joining a group or adding a friend), creating a photo album,
- sending a gift, poking another user, indicating you “like” a post, attending an
- event, or connecting with an application. In some cases you are also taking an
- action when you provide information or content to us. For example, if you share a
- video, in addition to storing the actual content you uploaded, we might log the fact
- that you shared it."
- - You also allow Facebook to collect information about your "browser type,
- location, and IP address, as well as the pages you visit."
- - You should read the privacy policy of Facebook to know what you allow
- Facebook to do with your data. You can find it on https://www.facebook.com/policy.php
- Facebook doesn’t provide enough protection.
- - Fb also sells your data to law enforcement and companies. Not to mention
- they earn millions of $ by selling this data.
- - All you do on Fb is recorded & shared with the governments and anyone who
- has the money to buy it. Even if you "delete" your data, they're still saved and any
- government agency can look them up anytime.
- - Facebook wants to make money, and they can do this by sharing your
- information with advertisers who want to market their products to you.
- - Basically Facebook is pretty sloppy about vetting their ads, which could
- result in you clicking on an anti-virus software ad and downloading an actual virus.
- - Privacy settings revert to a less safe default mode after each redesign.
- - More than a dozen privacy and consumer protection organizations have filed a
- complaint with the FCC claiming the site plays with privacy settings intentionally
- to make users’ personal info fair game for commercial use.
- - Even after you delete your profile, the data stays on facebook and can be
- recovered anytime.
- We’re going to do next:
- - Step #1: Informing your own city what Facebook is actually doing by hanging
- posters around. From 15/08/2011 -> 22/08/2011 (dd/mm/jjj)
- - Step #1.5: Make fake FB accounts and massive invite strangers for a week or
- two.
- - Step #2: Inform every FB friend on whats going on around FB. Make a wall
- about it or something.
- - Step #3: Inform local media of your own country about Facebook.
- - Step #3.5: Mass spam the internet about FB's activities. Be createful,
- contact Google, contact Microsoft, spam on MSN, Yahoo, Skype or w/e, massive spam on
- games, Inform EVERYONE.
