  1. PML-N is using its excessive power to abuse and overrule the golden principles for the appointment of the vice-chancellor(s) for the five universities in Pakistan. The list of 15 professors which the ministry had forwarded to CM Shahbaz Sharif includes the notorious name of Dr Shoail Aftab Qureshi. The news follows:

  5. "Sources privy to the developments said the CM interviewed a panel of three candidates for each university at a time while Secretary Higher Education Department (HED) Abdullah Khan Sumbal, VC Search Committee member MPA Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha and educationist Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi (Dr ZIQ) were also present. The sources further said each panel comprising three candidates was interviewed for around 15-20 minutes by the chief minister.

  7. It is pertinent to mention here that names of Prof Dr Fazal Ahmed Khalid, Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Prof Dr Umar Khan Khattak, Prof Dr Faiz-ul-Hassan Nasim, Prof Dr Faheem Malik, Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shakir, Prof Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Kamal, Prof Dr Abbas Ch, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, Prof Dr Muhammad Akram, Prof Dr Zia ul Qayyum, Prof Dr Ch Jamil Anwar, Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar and Prof Dr Sohail Aftab Qureshi were recommended by the VC Search Committee."

  11. Dr Sohail Aftab Qureshi is the most unethical professor in Pakistan let alone UET and is blacklisted by HEC due to plagiarism and various other charges. Dr Qureshi has been already indicted by the the UET Syndicate. The question that still boggles us is the survival of the corrupt professor. An answer to which is the use of abusive powers in education ministry due to upper hand of Pervaiz Malik (MNA). This is not the first time Pervaiz Malik has intervened in the important appointments in the Education ministry. It wouldn't be hard to find events where he has used his powers for the appointments at key positions in the education ministry.

  13. During his tenure, Dr Sohail took handsome chunks of bribes: a serious concern for the teaching profession which was later on raised in the meetings of the UET Syndicate. He has already been indicted for the unethical abuse of his power as a professor in University of Engineering & Tech Lahore. Besides plagiarizing numerous papers, Dr Sohail had been awarding unlawful, fully plagiarized master thesis and has been a part of similar approval of projects and tenders that were in the interest of the bribe-makers.

  19. Source privy to the development said that CM had objected the initial list to modify it for the most sought professors by PMLN.
  20. The inclusion of Dr Sohail has tainted the credibility of the committee that was formed by Punjab ministry. How credible can a committee be when it can, without any hesitation, forward the name of a key blacklisted figure for the appointment of the most senior post for five universities?
  21.
  22. The summary and merit of appointment of vice-chancellor(s) should be made public as those five universities run on a tax-payer(s) money. Public should be made aware of the summary of those appointment(s) with clear distinctions on merit. It is the violation of rights and merit of other professors in all public universities who otherwise have sound credibility for becoming the vice-chancellor but suffer for being indifferent to political affiliations.
