- Ys 8: Lacrima of Dana
- This list is made as of January 2016 and so we're obviously missing a lot of data. No known release dates for the bottom half of the list and I fully expect many to be pushed back (Mass Effect Andromeda being chief suspect). Some might not even make it to the US. But there are also plenty of titles that aren't even announced and many indie titles that will pop up as well.
- What really gets me excited in this list is A. how few remasters there are and B. how Japan appears to have really shown up. Beyond that we have a bunch of new IPs and a whole bunch of extremely anticipated titles. Horizon and Ni-Oh strike me as the most interesting of the new IPs with great sounding premises and good showings so far (Ni-Oh appearing to be a sort of Onimusha with Dark Souls thing, Horizon having a fun mix of technology and dinosaur hunting). Lots of RPGs tickle my fancy on the list and it'll be very very interesting to see how FFXV really turns out.
- World of Final Fantasy and Project Setsuna should not be overlooked however. The former has a fantastic art style, an interesting battle system and will likely have a fun bouncy story while the latter appears to be a throwback to older RPGs with a world map, a Chrono Trigger like battle system and an airship and some lovely character designs (look of Junion for my favorite so far).
- Persona 5 finally hits and I think that'll be my most anticipated of the entire year. Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Mafia 3 represent sequels in other series that I'm really interested in as well.
- New Ys games always excite me. If we actually get the Yakuza games, I'll be incredibly happy.
- Xbone Games - 9 games
- Killer Instinct Season 3
- Quantum Break
- Crackdown 3**
- Cuphead***
- Gears of War 4
- Halo Wars 2
- ReCore**
- Scalebound**
- Tacoma
- I'm almost certainly forgetting stuff in this list and again, more stuff to be announced but we might finally FINALLY see the release of Cuphead. The old-timey cartoon aesthetic is incredible. Gimme gimme.
- The Crackdown series was some of the best co-op gaming you could ever have and I'm hoping 3 continues that.
- Some good looking new IPs floating through as well. ReCore has a good team behind it and looked interesting while Scalebound has Kamiya at the helm and I'll always trust that. Gears and Halo Wars 2 are kind of more known quantities but should fulfill their duties. Hopefully Microsoft has a bunch more to show off this year. Really go time for them.
- Wii U Games - 5 games
- Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD
- Star Fox Zero**
- Genei Ibun Roku #FE***
- Pokken Tournament*
- Legend of Zelda (probably ported to NX)
- Obviously we're winding down in the Wii U's life time. It feels short but they can only keep it going for so long. 4 years isn't really that bad either. The GBA had 3 years and that thing was a beast. I think people just got used to thinking console cycles were 8-10 years like the 360/PS3 lasted (and they should NOT have lasted that long).
- In any case, a remaster that's probably not too needed but not unwanted, a return of Star Fox and a couple interesting ideas. People really need to drop the SMT x FE thing with #FE. It serves zero purpose and we know it's more of its own game at this point than the crossover people wanted. The more important idea to it is that it was a crossover of staff and not just some fanservice FE characters in SMT world thing that I guess "fans" were asking for. I will ALWAYS take the original idea of the crossover any day. Pokken should be fun and make for a nice party game.
- The bigger take on this is we have NX coming and we don't know what form that takes or what it will have. I personally like the idea of two separate devices that both play the same games by way of using SD cards as the game storage medium. Cheap, large storage, quick access, easy to use and we know they patented an idea to use that. I see the new Zelda being in a Twilight Princess situation and ported to NX where it'll be a much better game.
- 3DS Games - 10 games
- Hyrule Warriors Legends
- Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
- Final Fantasy Explorers
- Project X-Zone 2
- Fire Emblem Fates
- Bravely Second: End Layer**
- Dragon Quest 7 3D**
- Dragon Quest 8 3D**
- Metroid Prime: Federation Force
- Zero Time Dilemma***
- A bunch of lengthy titles here. The third part of the Zero Escape series makes me salivate uncontrollably. One of the best visual novel/puzzle game series I've seen. Finally the US gets DQ7 and 8 3DS and Bravely Second. Just an all around solid little lineup. Again, successor coming up soon so support should be fairly light overall and even with that being the case, those 10 games should last a good chunk of time.
- I'm buying Federation Force specifically because of the backlash it received. It'll be really interesting to see if it turns as a much-maligned but actually good title or just trash.
- Vita Games - 1 game???
- SaGa: Scarlet Grace
- So now we see the endgame of the Vita. The vast majority of its titles are getting ported to the PS4 so that they can sell on Vita to Japan but PS4 in the US. We'll probably never even see the SaGa game unless it also gets a port and the other game I'd put here, Zero Time Dilemma, is also on 3DS. I really doubt we'll see another Sony portable at this point but who knows. It's sad because the Vita is a really solid machine. Forever the best way to play PS1 and PSP games on the go along with those Vita titles though.
- So there we go, 69 probable games (I did NOT come up to that number on purpose) for 2016 with *'s marking the ones I'm personally the most excited for. Things could change, stuff gets bumped back, lots of new stuff to be announced with a new console thing on the horizon and who knows what from the indie crowd but that's how I see it for now. If this is just the start of the year, it is looking incredible.
