  1. Gabomba Rope Lengths
  2.
  3. This is just a little explanation about what the hell is going on with the variable rope lengths in Gabomba. Backstory: I noticed that despite being on the same RN, certain savestates would give different RN seeds after using lash in Gabomba. I soon worked out that the cause of this was length of the rope was variable (as seen here http://imgur.com/OrMbnxs ). Different rope lengths correspond to the positions of the lash pole for which the lash will be successful (short rope = very strict range, long rope = almost all ranges), it also determines how long the psynergy hand will stay gripped on the rope -- and it's this that gives the variable RN!

  5. Every time you load into the room "fresh" (fresh = from another room or from a save file) the rope formed will always be the shortest possible.
  6.
  7. However when the room is reloaded after a battle the rope length can vary. I've determined that once you're actually in the battle, there's nothing you can do to influence the length of the rope (i.e. once the battle starts, rope length is fixed).
  8.
  9. This means that the only influences can be before the fight starts. Next thing I determined is that the length of time you spend on the room with the lashcog DOES have an impact on the length of the rope.
  10.
  11. The time you spend in rooms other than this room has no effect on the length of the rope. The position of Felix when you take the encounter has no impact on the length of the rope.
  12.
  13. The implication of this is that since you can never have absolute control over the number of steps until next encounter (or at least this is a very hard task) the time you spend in the lashcog room will always vary -- thus this the length of the rope will always have some degree of randomness in a speedrun.
