5. First of all, we would like to congratulate you on your promotion. We have picked you because we believe you have what it takes to become a Moderator for Jailbreak, and possibly even more than that! This guide is your introduction into the world of Jailbreak Moderation, and we would expect you to read all of this information carefully before starting, as well as returning for reference when necessary.

10. Here are some general tips about moderating that we feel are useful for you to know as to effectively do your job.
11.
12. - Always give players warnings before taking large action on them. A majority of rule breakers can be handled by simply giving a warning, in which they will apologize and not do it again. However, don't over warn someone either. Know when to be soft, but also know when to be assertive and put your foot down.
13.
14. - If you are ever uncertain about something, don't be afraid to ask your mentor about it. If your mentor is not around, or they do not know the answer, move on to a Senior Moderator, and from there the Administrator. If none of the above are available, ask a fellow Moderator or in the Hipchat. Any of the above will give you an answer to your problem.
15.
16. - If a server is becoming more than you can handle at that time, it's fine to ask for help. Call another Moderator to come and help you out, or if you feel you need a break, ask someone to take over for you. You will learn to control these type of situations, but it's fine if you get overwhelmed and need help.
17.
18. - If you ever make a mistake, such as slaying the wrong person or swapping the wrong person, apologize and rectify the mistake. If you slayed someone wrongly, it is recommended you slay yourself out of courtesy to that player.
19.
20. - Remember that the required amount of time per week is 7 hours, not 70. don't feel that you are obligated to play for massive amounts of time, as there is a whole team to cover the servers. It is recommended you pace yourself when playing, because if you play too much, you will burn yourself within months, if not shorter, and want to resign. Cover the server when it's needed, but don't over do it.
21.
22. - Also remember that you are part of a team, so get to learn people outside your mentor, as getting to know and befriend the team can make moderating much easier, and even fun!
23.
24. - This is a thankless job most of the time, but understand that even if people don't say it, they are thankful. You just moderating a server can improve the playing experience of everyone on it, along with all contributions you make to the team at meetings or just interacting together. Don't get discouraged if you feel under appreciated, because all Moderators are appreciated.
25.
I understand that staff aren't always thanked often for the amazing work that they do, but I always want them to know how much I appreciate all of the time and effort they put into the server. The thankless job of moderating is something we need, the server couldn't possibly hope to run without you moderators. Moderating is difficult, it really is, people are rude to you and insult you, but you rise above it and control servers to the highest standard you can, which is more than I could possibly even hope to show my appreciation for. Watching all of you grow as people is something that brings me so much job, you're maturing as people, and as moderators. Thank you for everything you do to keep Jailbreak running.
26.
27. - Finally, remember you are still playing a game, so have fun and relax! Don't take your job so seriously, but don't slack either. Try to find a good middle ground for yourself, and stay within there. If you keep yourself relaxed but professional, you will find moderating much more fun and easy.

32. Here is the list of commands available to you as a Trial Moderator.
33.
34. @<message> - This command can be used to talk to other Moderators online
35. @@<message> - With this command you can talk to players without using your ingame name.
36. !gag <Player> - Mutes a players microphone
37. !ungag <Player> - Unmutes a players microphone
38. !mute <Player> - Gag's a players chat
39. !unmute <Player> - Ungag's a players chat
40. !slay <Player> - Kills a player
41. !stripslay -This slays the targetted player and ensures that their weapons do not drop. (Use this on guards so that you don't cause gun-plant)
42. !slaynr - This slays the targetted player in the next round.
43. !slap <Player> <Amount> - If a player freeshots, you may use this command to even the damage out. 30 Damage Freeshot -> !slap player 30
44. !prisoner <Player> - This forces a player to the Prisoner team.
45. !guard <Player> - This forces a player to the Guard team (Normally do not need to use this)
46. !tp <Player> - This teleports players. If a player is stuck, then this command can be used.
47. !jb - A menu with some pre-built binds, such as '@@It is now a freeday!'
48. !ban - Ban the targetted player or SteamID. As a Trial Moderator you can only ban for 30 minutes, and it is highly recommended that you use the ULX Menu, and never the command in chat.
49.
50.
51. - By using * you can target all players on the server. For example: !gag * would gag all players.
52.
53. - By using ^ you can target yourself. For example: !slay ^ will slay only yourself. This is recommended if you wish to quickly slay yourself.
54.
55. - You can use TAB to print a player's whole name quickly when typing chat. Just fill out the first few letter of their name, and press TAB. For example: "Te" Press TAB "TehDarkside". Make sure to use this as to avoid targeting the wrong player with your commands.
56.
57. - Commands can also be administered through the TAB menu by clicking on a player's name, or using !menu to access all the commands. These are alternate ways to moderate, but one ways is not necessarily better than another. Use whatever way suits your style.
58.
59. - If you wish to have a useful command/saying on standby (Such as !gag * or !menu), we would recommend binding it. To bind, go to your console using ~, and type the following:
60.
61. For binding a command, use: bind <key> "<command>" - For example: bind P "!menu"
62.
63. For binding a saying, use: bind <key> "say @@<Message>" - For example: bind P "say @@Do not disrespect other players please."
64.

66.
67. Below, you will see the chart we use to standardize our punishments for Jailbreak.
68.
69.
70.
71. If there is a blank where an action would be, that means to skip to the next action to the right. Always remember to warn players first before punishing them, because if you punish them before warning them, it will irritable and make them harder to handle. If you need to punish them, let them know after why you punished them. Also, remember to practice what your preach. We all make mistakes, but always think before you do something.
72.
73. To assist in your duties, you have a 30 minute ban you may use to remove users who are awaiting the full ban to be made. Make sure that when you ban someone, or want someone banned, do the following:
74.
75. - Always put your bans in the correct format. The format you use for bans is the following:
76.
77. !ban SteamID <Time in Minutes> <Reason> <Date> <Names of Trial Moderator(s) Online>
78.
79. The reason, date, and people involved may be in any order, but always include them in the ban message. Keep in mind that it is much more effective and easier to ban someone using the ULX Menu.
80.
81. - Before logging the ban and requesting a longer ban, always see if the user has been blacklisted. You can check the blacklist using the following link (To search for a Steam ID, use CTRL + F, and then type the ID in the box that shows up): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vTRr94j50ICfGjf1ou7MC1qw9hJzcrvckJM43XLItB4/edit#gid=707729228
82.
83. - Always log every ban you make yourself here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1fzy53zfBQ5n4aeRdOZ8TrAVTOLMRsjJwCeaekUjURls/viewform?c=0&w=1
84.
85. - When requesting a ban, always make it in this thread: http://thecubeserver.org/forums/showthread.php/6726-Ban-Requests
86.
87. - If the ban you are requesting is a Permanent Ban, you must get express permission from a Mentor or above.
88.
89.
90.
91.
92. - Remember our servers rules, while being made with the Core Values in mind, were also made with Common Sense in mind as well, which is what also should be used when enforcing/punishing. Always use Common Sense when moderating, and don't do anything that goes against it.
93.
94. - The punishment chart above is a guideline, not scripture. You are not required to follow it word for word, but make sure to use Common Sense when drifting from it. However, we would recommend you stay with the guide until you are comfortable with moderating in general. Even if it is not required to follow, always stay within the same realm as the guide, as we do not need someone getting banned instantly for one RDM, or someone getting 20 warnings before getting slayed.

98.

100.
101. Inevitably, a player you have banned will come to the forums and request to be unbanned via Ban Appeal. A Moderator's first Ban Appeal can be intimidating, but there is nothing to worry about. When responding to a Ban Appeal, this is the structure we ask our Moderators to use:
102.
103. 1. Open with a thank you for making the appeal. For example: "Thank you for making an appeal. It really shows your care for our servers."
104.
105. 2.Explain the situation around the ban, and why you banned them. For example (We would prefer it be longer than this, as this is for the sake of example): "You were mic spamming quite a bit, as well disrespecting many players and myself. I found this to be enough for me to ban you from the server."
106.
107. 3. Give your decision on their ban, whether you unban, shorten, keep banned, or even extend it. For example: "Since I feel you have been sincere in your appeal, I have decided to unban you from the server."
108.
109. 4. [OPTIONAL] Ask them questions. If you want to ask them some questions about the ban, you may before making a decision. For example: "I'd like to ask why you felt it was ok to disrespect me?"
110.
111. Follow the structure set above, and you will do fine.
112.
113.
114.
115.
116. - ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use correct grammar and punctuation. On a ban appeal, you are trying to act professional, but if you can't spell correctly, it won't work.
117.
118. - In the line of being professional, never be hostile to someone on their appeal. Always remain calm and think about what you type will come across before putting it down on the appeal.
119.
120. - If you ever feel like you aren't sure what to do on an appeal, feel free to ask your mentor, a Senior Staff member, or any Moderator for advice. However, remember this is YOUR appeal, so only go with what you feel is right.
121.
122. - On that same coin though, don't be unreasonable with your decisions. Don't be unreasonably harsh (extending their ban for little reason), or unreasonably soft (Unbanning them when they make an appeal mocking the entire Jailbreak team). Always keep in mind the tone of the appeal when deciding what to do.
123.
124. - It is recommend that you take a glance at the Ban Appeal section when you come on the forums to check and see if there is any new appeals. Even if their isn't one for you, if their is a new one for someone else, respond to the person appealing, letting them know you are passing the appeal along, and give a link to the appeal to the correct person. This will greatly speed up the process and decrease frustration in the appealing player.
