- Sandra Fluke's career started in domestic violence work and human trafficking. She moved on to Sanctuary for Families in New York in 2009. At Sanctuary she started several different programs in the agency and also co-founded the state coalition for fair access to family court. She was also a member of a task-force for Domestic Violence against unmarried persons, teenagers and gays.
- In 2010 she won the women lawyers association Fran Kandel Public Interest Grant she also starred in an instructional film on how to apply for restraining orders.
