  1. As many of us know bombs are a major threat to society and humans everywhere. Why people make bombs and use them to hurt others is a reason unknown. There are certain bombs that people can make with common household materials, the bombs are called IEDs or also known as an improvised explosive device. Some may add "enhancements" like nails, glass, or metal fragments to increase the radius of the explosion and the damage to those around the blast. Since they are improvised they can come in many forms ranging from a small pipe bomb to a car bomb and they can cause quite some damage and even kill or injure others. The term IED came into use during the Iraq War which began in 2003.
  2. Even though Iraq was one of the few places to use IEDs they weren't the only ones who built them and used them in war. In Afghanistan and Iraq the use of IEDs helped neutralize the U.S's overwhelming advantage. A country that used IEDs earlier was Germany and as Ernst Jünger mentioned in his war memoir that the systematic use of booby traps and IEDs were used to to cover the retreat of German troops at the Somme region during the First World War. Another example of an earlier use of an IED was during the Belarussian Rail War launched by German during World War 2 to derail German trains. In Vietnam during the Vietcong against land and airborne vehicles. As well as in Northern Ireland The Troubles, the provisional IRA made extensive use of IEDs in their 1969-97 campaign. Many other countries used their own version of an IED and for many different reason, more commonly are the ones in Afghanistan and Iraq where IEDs are used as roadside bombs to hurt soldiers. IEDs are deadly as they come in different sizes and many can't tell the difference between a common object and a bomb made to look fake.
