Paulo César Guimarães holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Popular Music at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) where he studied with Fabio Adour, Wilson Lopes, Cliff Korman, André Queiroz, Cleber Alves, Mauro Rodrigues, Oiliam Lanna and studied a semester with the 'Guest Artist' Toninho Horta. He was section leader of the Geraes Bigband in 2012. He studied for a semester at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC - 2013) and took lessons with Gilad Hekselman, Julian Lage and Jonathan Kreisberg. Participated in masterclass with Juarez Moreira, Richard Bona, Carlos Malta, Hamilton de Holanda, Lewis Nash and Robert Glasper. He had private lessons with Juarez Moreira as the prize of the BDMG Young Instrumentalist 2012 competition.
In the same year, Paulo César Guimarães was selected to perform with Trio Coisa Feita in Savassi Festival - Jazz Lounge. He performed with Lucas Avelar on the Ibirapuera Theater at the Brazilian government culture festival “Música Minas” (São Paulo – 2009) and was graced with flying tickets to New York City to study at The New School in 2013 by the same culture program “Música Minas”. He integrated Bigband Geraes in 2011 and 2012 working with Cliff Korman (US), Alejandro Aviles (Cuba) and Darcy James (Canada). He presented in several editions of Project Viva Music performed by the Music School of UFMG with different groups. He works as a freelance musician in Belo Horizonte since 2008. Guimarães is the guitar teacher at Pro-Music School of Music in 2014. He recorded the debut album of Vinicius Mendes Quarteto in 2013. Performs in different places dedicated to instrumental music in Belo Horizonte with Vinicius Mendes Quarteto, Adriano Goyatá Trio, Jazzcorde-On and Sem Receita. Performed on Vespasiano Winter Festival 2014 with Sem Receita group. He released the Vinicius Mendes Quarteto’s first album Savassi Festival in 2014 and is the winner of New Jazz Talent - Jazz & Lounge Savassi Festival 2014 with Sem Receita group.
