  1. I’ve been watching the BSD Now show from the first episode. The first couple of shows were a little bit funny until Kris and Allan got hang of it. The conversation was rough at the edges but now it is quite nice to listen to you guys. As you probably noticed, English is not my first language so I recken you’ll understand all my bubbling.

  3. Let me get to the point of my writing to you. Before I started to listen to BSD Now I was looking around which OS I can use instead of Windows (probably a year or two before the show). I didn’t have any spare machine lying around so I used VirtualBox to test other OSes. I tried most of Linux distributions and of course PC-BSD. At that time I hardly managed to install PC-BSD to VirtualBox because it was keep crashing during installation process. So I gave up on PB-BSD and at that time choose Ubuntu. I’ve been using Ubuntu since.

  5. Forward to present day. I decided to test again some other Linux distributions and of course PC-BSD again. I don’t know how to call it, but the issue with the PC-BSD I have is an inconsistent download speed. I tried the download button from PC-BSD’s home page for Desktop version (3.8 GB). See the images in the link bellow. This download speed issue doesn’t bother me it just looks strange and it might be interesting to you (I believe the ISO image is downloaded from your server(s)?). I tried this download on different computers with different versions of Windows with different ISPs on different days of the week and different time of the day, and I always got this inconsistent download speed. When I tried some Linux distributions I’ve got steady download speed. From nearby servers I’ve got full download speed, from servers from US I’ve got lower download speeds, but it always was steady - consistent download speed. See the images in the link bellow. As I said this inconsistent download speed doesn’t bother me I just thing this might be interested to you. Do you have any idea why this is happening?

  7. Second part. A bug. The installation process of PC-BSD is as simple as an installation of an OS can get. I installed this to a VirualBox. In the installation process there is a bug. I believe. I thing this bug is present for a quite some versions now. If you first select the installation language and then the keyboard layout system crashes (kernel panic? What is the right term for this?). The second (probably also a bug) problem occurs after the initial copy of files, when you are ready to continue with the preparing the computer. At this step I couldn’t set the keyboard again. Firstly why has the keyboard layout changed during the installation? Secondly I selected the keyboard but the Apply button didn’t work (attached movie no. 3). So I had to continue with the US keyboard. So I never know what password I typed because keyboard layout changed during the installation process.
  8. I found these bugs in
  9. PCBSD10.2-RELEASE-09-12-2015-x64-DVD-USB.iso
  10. PCBSD10.3-RELEASE-03-31-2016-x64-DVD.iso

  12. The third part. A question. How can I prepare VirtualBox so I can install and use PC-BSD on as little disk space as possible? Perhaps 2 GB? And on as little RAM and processor’s cores as possible. I’ll be using this VB instance for e-Bank so I just need Firefox and pdf reader. I would like to move this VB instance from computer to computer so it needs to be a little in size as possible. Is this possible with no major knowledge or any special compiling or anything similar? During the installation process I get a warning that disk is smaller than 10 GB (attached video).

  14. I find that Ubuntu works with no major lag in VirtualBox on a host with SSD, Skylake i7 3GHz, 4 GB RAM. On same hardware PC-BSD has noticeable lag while just exploring the OS with no application running. Sometimes some windows open after a second or more. What did I do wrong? What can I do so PC-BSD will run fast in VirtualBox?

  19. I was pleasantly surprised that PC-BSD had any translation to Slovenian language. I believe that most of translation is from KDE? Where can I help translate Limina and other PC-BSD core? I must say that I was really pleasantly surprised to see PC-BSD to be translated to Slovenian.

  21. I hope that you understand my English. I look forward to your future shows.
