  1. [31/05/2015 12:27:46 PM] Frances: I wanted to ask, part of the reason why my application was closed in the end was that bringing even more trials after a two month trial period would be sucky
  2. [31/05/2015 12:28:11 PM] Skull132: Hm?
  3. [31/05/2015 12:29:58 PM] Frances: but was anything else said besides that?
  4. [31/05/2015 12:30:11 PM] Frances: I'm a bit curious
  5. [31/05/2015 12:30:15 PM] Skull132: Concerning your application?
  6. [31/05/2015 12:32:34 PM] Skull132: In retrospect, the admins asked didn't fully condone all of your actions while you were in the position of Head Admin. That's one complaint.
  7. [31/05/2015 12:34:38 PM] Skull132: The second complaints were regarding your assessments of situations. The easiest example I have to bring up is dealing with Plahunter: you argued very explicitly that he is active, and as such, the process should be sped along. While the process should have been concluded faster than it was, the actual statistics show that he was inactive for almost all of the time period you claimed, only popping on once after an entire week or more of absence.
  8.
  9. //skipping roughly 2 hours of mostly trivial discussion concerning the player complaint against Plahunter
  10.
  11. [31/05/2015 2:41:24 PM] Skull132:Yes, this may be true. But as it stands, I'm not in a position to argue these.
  12. [31/05/2015 2:41:33 PM] Frances: the chris concerns?
  13. [31/05/2015 2:41:38 PM] Skull132: No, yours.
  14. [31/05/2015 2:41:43 PM] Frances: oh, how so?
  15. [31/05/2015 2:41:45 PM] Skull132: I am not, present.
  16. [31/05/2015 2:42:11 PM] Skull132: Because this moderator recruitment cycle has run on to be an amazing little charade with all of the associated and unassociated crud that went along with it.
  17. [31/05/2015 2:42:44 PM] Skull132: And since I've only been active a week, I lack the full awareness of everything that's going on to make calls that I'd be happy with.
  18. [31/05/2015 2:44:05 PM] Frances: so you can't tell me what these concerns were, and can't point me to the people who raised them either?
  19. [31/05/2015 2:47:08 PM] Skull132: No, because I'm done arguing bullshit fucking points. They don't have faith in you. I do not know why, Dea has her reasons, others may have looked at the amount of policy reversals we needed to pull after you had left.
  20. [31/05/2015 2:48:20 PM] Frances: policy reversals?
  21. [31/05/2015 2:49:17 PM] Skull132: The course you set staff and playerbase on was relatively strict enforcement of certain guidelines and regulations. As you said yourself, you indulged in overpolicing. This involved decisions which, effectively, needed to be reversed or reviewed, at the very least.
  22. [31/05/2015 2:49:53 PM] Frances: which guidelines and regulations, to be exact?
  23. [31/05/2015 2:50:08 PM] Skull132: Concerning character creation, backstories, etcetera.
  24. [31/05/2015 2:50:33 PM] Frances: I've never written a single policy about this
  25. [31/05/2015 2:50:43 PM] Frances: the only official document I've written is the current server rules
  26. [31/05/2015 2:51:01 PM] Frances: which were relatively lax so they could be adapted on a case-by-case basis, and only touched the general mindset of the server
  27. [31/05/2015 2:58:19 PM] Skull132: The issues in question were effectively regarded as your legacy. And there is a quote from you admitting to overpolicing, something which the other staff picked up on and needed to be changed.
  28. [31/05/2015 2:59:22 PM] Frances: honestly, all I've ever done is follow people
  29. [31/05/2015 2:59:44 PM] Frances: I adapt to others, that's what I do best, I even have a habit of matching the speech patterns and general mood of people I'm talking to
  30. [31/05/2015 3:00:18 PM] Frances: what I tried to do as a headmin was to follow and amplify an already undergoing current
  31. [31/05/2015 3:00:31 PM] Frances: people wanted to do certain things, so I encouraged them, pushed their ideas, built upon them
  32. [31/05/2015 3:00:53 PM] Frances: I'm a terribly unimaginative person, what I excel at doing is building upon the work of others, not laying down the groundwork myself
  33. [31/05/2015 3:01:05 PM] Frances: -so-
  34. [31/05/2015 3:01:45 PM] Frances: I believe the reason why this happened is because people already had a certain disposition towards being "srs bsns" with aurora
  35. [31/05/2015 3:02:31 PM] Frances: at first things were too lax - you had geneticists hulking themselves for shits and giggles, bald psychiatrists leaving notes with the sole content of "DICK FART" to their friends, basically a whole ton of chucklefucking that wasn't particularly funny or clever
  36. [31/05/2015 3:03:13 PM] Frances: the administration started cracking down on that, and I saw what I believe to be a reactionary current, which ended up pushing too far
  37. [31/05/2015 3:03:50 PM] Frances: I didn't leave at the height of it, but I started becoming inactive at the height of it, because I wasn't too sure what to do with what happened and I felt like there was no "right" solution, only what people wanted and people couldn't agree on what they wanted
  38. [31/05/2015 3:04:00 PM] Frances: it was an impass for me and the server pretty much needed to sort this out
  39. [31/05/2015 3:04:20 PM] Frances: I was also planning on leaving for unrelated reasons
  40. [31/05/2015 3:04:35 PM] Frances: and that was the /main/ reason why I left, I would've probably stayed and tried to see things through otherwise
  41. [31/05/2015 3:05:05 PM] Frances: -anyway-
  42. [31/05/2015 3:05:17 PM] Frances: I guess I understand why this is happening, then
  43. [31/05/2015 3:05:28 PM] Frances: I was the figurehead and the scapegoat for that movement
  44. [31/05/2015 3:05:45 PM] Frances: even if I've said myself that I want the staff to be friendlier, more open, and more lax
  45. [31/05/2015 3:05:50 PM] Frances: I can't expect people to really care
  46. [31/05/2015 3:06:11 PM] Frances: I would've liked them to, a lot of people on staff were people who I saw as level-headed and reasonable
  47. [31/05/2015 3:06:34 PM] Frances: and I'm sorta sad if their impression of me is that I want to come back and be the headmin that'll bring the server back to something they don't want it to be
  48. [31/05/2015 3:06:43 PM] Frances: even if all I wanted to do was /enable/ people's ideas
  49. [31/05/2015 3:06:49 PM] Frances: but others never saw that
  50. [31/05/2015 3:06:53 PM] Frances: I don't blame them
  51. [31/05/2015 3:07:04 PM] Frances: I really don't
  52. [31/05/2015 3:09:00 PM] Skull132: For me, it is an unfortunate chain of events.
  53. [31/05/2015 3:10:44 PM] Frances: yeah
  54. [31/05/2015 3:11:03 PM] Frances: hey
  55. [31/05/2015 3:11:13 PM] Frances: just, don't blame yourself for it
  56. [31/05/2015 3:11:20 PM] Frances: I dunno if you would
  57. [31/05/2015 3:11:41 PM] Frances: I would've liked you to delegate a lot more things while you were busy
  58. [31/05/2015 3:11:46 PM] Frances: but as a whole
  59. [31/05/2015 3:11:52 PM] Frances: I really don't think this is your fault
  60. [31/05/2015 3:12:01 PM] Frances: it's not anybody's fault
  61. [31/05/2015 3:12:13 PM] Skull132: Amusingly enough, this was the first time the admin staff has gone mostly unsupervised for a large period of time.
  62. [31/05/2015 3:12:28 PM] Skull132: Before, either me, you, or Chris has always been around and able to tie up the loose ends.
  63. [31/05/2015 3:12:58 PM] Skull132: Overall, the result wasn't too bad. But it highlighted amusing things.
  64. [31/05/2015 3:13:18 PM] Frances: amusing?
  65. [31/05/2015 3:13:48 PM] Skull132: Well. Amusing in my usage of the word.
  66. [31/05/2015 3:14:10 PM] Frances: yes, I'm just doing the thing where I repeat what you said in the hope you'll explain more :B
  67. [31/05/2015 3:14:47 PM] Skull132: Basically. The ship will sail without anyone at the helm. But, as I mentioned in the sentence previous, the loose ends are the ones left untied.
  68. [31/05/2015 3:16:05 PM] Frances: yeah, I agree with you
  69. [31/05/2015 3:16:29 PM | Edited 3:16:40 PM] Frances: I don't find any big problems with the server, people seem to be happy (ignoring the occasionally toxic arguments about minor issues)
  70. [31/05/2015 3:17:11 PM] Frances: but as a whole, communities like this one will always fare better when there's active people who are willing to listen and work with others
  71. [31/05/2015 3:17:54 PM] Frances: it's hard to find someone that's
  72. 1. active
  73. 2. involved
  74. 3. objective
  75. [31/05/2015 3:18:02 PM] Skull132: Yes, it is.
