  1. # Building
  2. ##General
  3. For builds, check [this page](http://www.grappul.com). While building in Smite is very situational, grappul offers a nice basic build that off of which
  4. you can base your own, optimized build. If you want me to go into details on a certain item / on all of them simply say so and I will.
  5. ##Useful items
  6. Chaac is most commonly played in the solo lane. As a solo laner, counter building is very important. I'll link you to a short introduction to counter building that I wrote for another thread, as I feel like that helps you out a lot more than just specific items in the long run. You can find it [here](http://pastebin.com/UTUSM2y9).
  7. #Skills
  8. ##Skilling
  9. Keep in mind that everyone has their own preferences and that the "best" way to skill is the one that best suits your playstyle. There are, however, some basic guidelines that are worth following, which are what I'll try to list below.
  10. ###Priority
  11. 4>1>2/3>2/3
  12. ###First five levels
  13. 1>2>1>3>4
  14. ##Overflow
  15. After 5 successful basic attacks, the next ability Chaac uses costs no mana.
  16. ##Thunder Strike
  17. Chaac throws his axe forward, damaging all enemies in a radius around its landing location. The axe remains idle in the ground for 5s or until another ability is used.
  18. ##Torrent
  19. Chaac spins his axe around him, damaging all enemies, and gaining protections for each enemy hit (max 5). If his axe is out from Thunder Strike, he will first dash to the axe location, doing 50% base damage to enemies he passes through and then executing his spin attack.
  20. ##Rain Dance
  21. Chaac summons a rainstorm around his current location for 6s. While it rains, he regains health, and enemies are caught in the mud and slowed. If his axe is out from Thunder Strike, a rainstorm will also spawn at that location.
  22. ##Storm Call
  23. Chaac charges his lightning axe and unleashes a blast, silencing and damaging all enemies around him. While in the air, Chaac has 50% damage mitigation and is immune to CC effects. If triggered within range of Chaac's axe from Thunder Strike, Storm Call will super-charge, dealing additional damage and also knocking up enemies.
  24. #Tips
  25. ##General
  26. As a Solo laner sustain is very important. Chaac has a lot of that, both in the form of his passive (allowing him to basically cast a skill for free every wave) aswel as his heal. Combine that with the mana buff and you have a warrior that basically never has to back and can stay in lane forever. Abuse that, especially if you're up against someone with worse / no sustain. Poke them whenever you can (even if you take some damage yourself) as you'll be able to heal back up and they might have to back / spend precious mana that forces them to play more defensive and lose lane later. Obviously that doesn't mean you should overreach.
  27.
  28. ###Overflow
  29. Utilize your passive to it's fullest. While you'll mainly be clearing the wave with your 1 and 2, you should always try to get at least 5 basic hits in. Managing your mana is important, and this greatly helps with that. Don't forget that your passive exists even if you're completely out of mana; if you get 5 basics off you can still use your skills, even if they consume lots of mana and you have none left.
  30. ###Thunder Strike
  31. This is your bread and butter. Not only is it great for clearing aswel as poking but it's also the set up to make your other skills more effective. When clearing, use it while the minion wave is still walking , as you can hit almost all of them for good damage. It has a relatively short cooldown (10s) that doesn't increase when you level it up, so in combination with your passive, don't be afraid to chuck an axe at your enemy now and again.
  32.
  33. If you're getting ganked, be very wary of your axe placement, as you might need it to escape in conjunction with your 2 (more on that later). The axe remains for 5s, so without building CDR, there's a 5s window where your axe is neither on CD nor in the ground.
  34. ###Torrent
  35. ####Offensive
  36. This, in combination with your 1, is how you clear the wave. As mentioned before, you want to throw your axe at the wave as it's still moving. Use your 2 right after that, as you'll dash through the front minions (damaging them) and swinging your axe around you, hitting both the front and the back minions again. This is usually enough to kill the archers, leaving you to stack your passive on the meele minions. Be wary thouhg: your 2 is your main escape, so only use it offensively if you're sure that you wont be ganked and are not in danger of getting destroyed by your enemy. You can also easily steal objectives with this, if your enemy is not very attentive. Throw your axe over the wall just as the objective gets in kill range, teleport in and ult.
  37. ####Defensive
  38. Not only does this ability help you with clearing but it's also a great help if you need to escape / play defensively. If you're defending a tower, even just the threat of your 1 being in the ground is often enough to keep enemies at bay. If you acually have to escape, it's a good idea to chuck your axe over a wall. The enemy is now forced to decide wether they want to follow you or wait at the axe location. Five seconds might not seem like much but in the heat of the battle it's a lot. Use those 5s to your advantage, if you plan on teleporting wait for as long as possible and keep running, putting some distance between your enemies and the location of your axe. If you want to use your 2 without teleporting but your axe is still in the ground, use your 3 (which will spawn a thunder storm at the axe's location) leaving you free to use your 2 without teleporting.
  39.
  40. Teleporting isn't the only thing your axe does though: it also gives you protections for each enemy hit. If you're surrounded, in a team fight or your 1 is on CD, use your 2 to give you some more defence.
  41. ###Rain Dance
  42. This is mainly used for sustain. If you're low on health or if you're fighting someone head on, this gives a little bit of recovery. Keep in mind that it heals over 6 seconds. This means that you have to be a bit more careful, as you wont instantly heal all your health back up. But, this also means that you can use it as you're going into a fight, even before you've acually taken damage.
  43. ####Slow
  44. That this ability also has a slow is often forgotten. This has multiple uses and is especially useful when chasing after enemies who don't have a leap (or their leap is on CD). Use your 3 to keep them close to you, allowing you to consistently get damage off. As you also spawn a thunder storm at the location of your axe, you can use it to slow incoming/escaping enemies.
  45. ###Storm Call
  46. ####Silence
  47. The silence is great if you're in a huge teamfight, near on objective or even in a 1vs1 situation against an enemy who heavily relies on his skills. Use it to give your team the advantage in a fight, to stopp the enemy team from stealing your objective or to steal it yourself. It can really turn a fight around. Try to focus enemies who rely on their skills as their main source of damage, as the silence will hinder them more than someone who does lots of dmg with their basic attacks.
  48. ####Damage mitigation & CC immunity
  49. People often forget that Chaacs ult gives him a 50% damage mitigation. This is useful both when you're playing offensive or when you're playing defensive. In a teamfight, this means that you can easily get into the middle of the fight without the risk of getting instantly killed. If you're getting ganked (be it in a team fight or in lane) you can use this ability to lower the damage the damage you take (on top of the other benefits) which might allow you to get out.
  50.
  51. The CC immunity has a similar use. Offensively, this allows you to get your ult off, do damage and silence enemies without fear of being interrupted. Especially when trying to secure / steal and objective this is useful. If you're in your ult, Ymir can't blink - freeze you to steal the Fg, as an example. You can also move a fair bit while you're in it, so if you're the one trying to steal an objective, use it before you're in range of their skills. You can also use it to escape enemy CC if you don't have your beads up (e.g. if you get ulted by Ares, use it to not get pulled).
  52. ####Combo & Knock up
  53. As all your other abilities, this also has an additional effect if used in combination with your 1. If you use your ult while you're axe is down **and in range of it**, you'll gain additional damage and knock your enemies up. This is insanely valuable in all situations. When chasing an enemy in lane, you can chuck your axe at him for poke and then knock him up, often giving you just enough time to finish him off. In a team fight, this can be a game changer. Always try to use it in conjunction with your axe, not only for the damage (which is immense), but also for the knock up, so as to provide a possible set up for your teammates. This also makes Chaac great at stealing objectives against enemies who are a bit too attentive for your 1-2 trick to work. You can throw your axe at the enemy and follow up with your ult. You'll not only be CC immune (so they can't keep you away from the objective) aswel as silencing them (stopping them from doing so right after your ult is over), but you'll also knock them up, which renders them inable to use their actives for a split second.
