  135. > [[ Contacts ]]
  136. * Smith, a Technician. The first player you met. Hunts player-killing Nameless around Averron City, with a stunning drone and bootknife. A bit eccentric, Smith seems morally ambiguous, if not corrupt, and appears very eager to cause as much pain to the Nameless as possible. Has a workshop in one of Averron's player housing districts, where he builds drones; you haven’t interacted with him in a while.
  137. * Nel. An Explorer. Wears rare rawhide armor and lizard-scale boots, and dual wields long knives in combat. One of the first people you met in-game, Nel was originally a bit callous, but seemed to soften up a bit after burying his first in-game friend. Boisterous, and a bit feminine in appearance and demeanor, but is skilled with the in-game mapping and exploration tools and has proven to be a highly reliable scout and combatant.
  138. * Ayla. A Technician. Wears a form-fitting jumpsuit and a pair of goggles when working, and uses handguns and explosives in combat. One of three primary leaders of the Averron Alliance, Ayla is the Guild Master of the Writ Keepers, a heavy roleplaying guild that hopes to interpret the game’s lore to a mechanical advantage. Friendly and highly intelligent, but not fond of conflict, Ayla seems to have a heightened understanding, through character skills or personal intuition, of the game’s crafting and mechanics system.
  139. * Tatsumaki. A Brawler. Several heads shorter than you with a build lithe and lean, and short hair done up to look like cat ears. Switches armor often, but keeps her chest bound and hands wrapped in bandages; Tatsumaki is a powerful unarmed fighter equipped with armored gauntlets. One of the first players you grouped with in-game. Though she is shy and speaks almost no English, she is highly dependable both in combat skill and the fact that you’ve never caught her offline.
  140. * Vision, a Gunner. Tall, with messy black hair and darker skin than yours. Part of the first party you formed, he seemed a bit callous, especially regarding the Celestial Gems, but eventually loosened up. Though a decent shot with a long-gun, you take it he isn’t comfortable in situations where he’s not leading.
  141. * Aelriss. An Artificer. Tall, with long, braided hair and a loose white hooded cloak worn over a mail vest. Though her character’s skills seem to be based on staff fighting and elementalism, Aelriss’s true potential lies within the Aven Cordis, a Celestial Artifact which allows her to command and control a spellcasting Bird-of-Paradise. Called Eunoia, her familiar’s abilities are indispensable in combat, making her a force to be reckoned with. The two of you work together well, though you’re not sure you’ve figured her out yet.
  142. * Donnel, a Brawler. A fair-skinned gentleman who keeps his yellow hair tied back, Donnel wears an intimidating mask and armor much like yours in combat. One of Aelriss’s friends first, Donnel is a competent fighter with a claymore sword. Though ready and willing to help out a friend in need, and even pass up on loot if someone else deserves it more—he is highly unforgiving of the Nameless, and seems eager to engage in player versus player combat.
  143. * Liza, a Brawler. About your height, with unnaturally deep-red hair and bright eyes, her appearance is somewhere between nonchalantly collected and highly severe—and so, commands respect. The foremost member of the Averron Alliance, Liza is the Guild Master of the Crimson Guardians. Her Celestial Artifact, the Crimson Wings, allow her to take flight at high speeds for extended periods; comprised of highly advanced technology, they can collapse into her armor when not in use. She seems to be a fine leader, but seems to rely on her own best judgment in important situations, which has earned her scorn in the eyes of some.
  144. * Vyx, a Gunner. Wears a tight-fitting red cloak over leather garments with a spiked motif, and fights with a pair of rapid-fire handguns. Though you took her for somewhat moody and immature, Vyx is quite reasonable when in the company of a group of competent allies. The most animated, and likely the most dangerous Gunner you’ve seen, her skill in the raid against Kjorikos was enough to land her a spot in the Crimson Guardians.
  145. * Sulya. A member of the Writ Keepers who fights with twin swords. Exotic in appearance, she seems devoted to the game’s lore, able to quickly aggregate large amounts of information from public sources to form theories that stand given in-game evidence. However, you don’t know her well enough to comment.
  146.
  147. > [[ Locations ]]
  148. * Averron City: An underground city that serves as one of the starting points for players. A bustling hub for quests and adventure, it's filled with both Named and Nameless, though most efforts are currently focused on finding a way to the surface of the world. The city itself is a Celestial Manifestation, created by Andor, Liza, and Ayla (now leaders or officers of the guilds in the Averron Alliance) using a Materialization Altar in the center of town.
  149. * Averron Observatory: Once the sanctum of a corrupted Artificer called Kjorikos, the Observatory was made manifest by the offering of a hoard of Celestial Gems taken by a raid. With your name on the Altar along that of Ayla, Andor, and Kainzo (an officer of the Crimson Guardians), you collect fees and have some control over the place. Within, there are such facilities as a simulation of the Overworld where gardens can grow, a test chamber where individuals can safely fight other players or test weapons against homunculi, and an underground forge kept alight by a strange and ambitious NPC.
  150.
  151. > [[ Factions and Terms ]]
  152. * a Celestial Materialization Altar is some sort of statue that allows you to offer items to the gods, or offer Celestial Gems in exchange for a piece of equipment called a Celestial Artifact. There are varying tiers of Altars, some of which allow players to create environments called Manifestations; this is how Averron City, as well as the Averron Observatory, came to be.
  153.
  154. * the Nameless are players who have died and lost their UI, though it sounds like there are other ways to become one of them. Without a UI, one doesn't have a name, and can't maintain contacts or a message board; in addition, they're forced to use traditional bags to carry their equipment around, and the game is arbitrarily more difficult for them because they allegedly "feel more pain" when suffering VR hits.
  155. * Regular players are referred to as Named or Identified.
  156.
  157. > [[ Averron Alliance ]]
  158. * The Averron Alliance consists of the three major guilds by numbers, power, or influence in Averron City: the Disposable Heroes, the Crimson Guardians, and the Writ Keepers.
  159. * The Disposable Heroes are the largest guild in Averron—this might be because they have few proper standards for recruiting, and appreciate the opportunity to form a friendly community for new players. Allegedly casual and laid-back, some of their members are known for serving as peacekeepers or guardsmen in Averron City proper. You’ve raided with Andor, their alleged second-in-command; their leader is a man named Sven, whom you have yet to interact with.
  160. * The Writ Keepers are a heavy roleplaying guild led by Ayla. Focused on getting ahead in the game by interpreting messages in the lore and environment—as well as on creating a properly immersive environment for those who can’t help but find themselves ‘in-character’ in the world of Broken Sky, they appear to have many of the skilled Artificers and Technicians in Averron amongst their ranks.
  161. * The Crimson Guardians are the smallest of the three guilds, but are allegedly the strongest guild in Averron City by player level and skill. They are the only guild with a “strict application process”, and their guild hall is opulent enough to match their status; additionally, their leader and all three of their officers possess Celestial Artifacts. You can’t imagine what it would be like to see them together on the battlefield.
  162.
  163. > [[ Other Guilds ]]
  164. * The Averron Guard is a coalition of players who have taken the role of city guards, to enforce the neutrality policy set in place by the Alliance.
  165. * Freakshow is a guild comprised of mostly Nameless; their icon is of a crudely-drawn harlequin, and they've been accused of being an organized legion of PKers. Many of their members seem to take refuge in Averron's warehouse district; you've been told not to go alone. Though their leader was once a man called Anaximander, who possessed the supernatural power of teleportation, he has currently departed from Averron, leaving a mysterious woman named Freya in his stead.
  166.
  167. > [[ Other Cities ]]
  168. * Allestria is the first city you were able to contact. A party of adventurers reaching out using technology found in an active dungeon was on the other side, and you discussed your circumstances before they were forced to depart, noting that they’d try to make contact again soon. Their city is structured similarly to Averron, with a pair of guilds holding the major power and enforcing neutrality in town; they have not explored many of their lower branches or even theorized the construction of an Excavator.
  169. * Hecatelia is the second city you established contact with. An absolute monarchy ruled by an individual called Hecatel—humbled by her power, you aren’t even sure she’s human. Their technological level was far in excess of yours, boasting a temporarily-functional Excavator. Though they have no trouble with Nameless, a guild of terrorists in their branch of the underground has declared war on the effort to reach the surface.
  170. > Veska is the name of a city mentioned by the Allestrian party.
  171. > Altinnea is the name of a city you read on an imageboard.
  172.
  173. > [[ Notes ]]
  174. > [[ LEVELING UP ]]
  175. > [[ When spending EXP, you may perform any of the following actions: ]]
  176. * Increase the level of a weapon skill
  177. * Improve HP or PP
  178. * Improve a Perk.
