Space Dash: the Oneshot (WIP)

>Your headset crackles to life
>"Crewp0nies ready?"
>Anonymous flips a few of the switches on the massive glowing bank in front of him
Anonymous go
>"Twilight go"
>"Pinkie Pie A-Okay!"
>"F-Fluttershy... um..."
>"Rarity go"
>"AppleJack rarin' ta go"
>You flick your headset on
>"Rainbow Dash, ready to go"
>Anonymous flips a few more switches
Canterlot, we are ready for lift off
>"Roger Anonymous, on your mark"
>Anonymous gives his count down

Four
Three
Two
One
>He balls his fist and smashes it down upon the large, glowing red button recently added to the control array
>A rumble sounds somewhere below you, causing the entire cockpit to vibrate slightly
We have ignition!
>He cups his hand over his mic and leans over to you
I always wanted to do that
>You nod to him


>The rumbling quickly increases in pitch and intensity
>Anonymous has to yell to be heard over it
READY FOR THE FUN PART?

>That Pinkie Pie
>Always so excitable
>The rumbling is now a barely contained roar
>The cockpit shakes visibly
>Then, the impossible happens
>You never thought it would, despite all his claims
>You can feel the massive ship start to move
>Out the window, the you can see the ground slowly fall away
>Then the acceleration kicks in


>The bass rumbling shakes your very soul as you are slammed back into your seat
>The ground peels away quickly now, becoming smaller and smaller
>Out of all the p0nies here
>You're probably the only one to have remotely approached this speed
>And Anonymous, of course
>He's done this all before
>With gargantuan effort, you roll your head over to look at him
>The tendons in his neck stand up like bridge struts
The fun part


>The rocket knifes through the air, borne forth on a titanic pillar of smoke and fire
>A light on a screen flickers
Booster rockets empty
Jettisoning now
>Anonymous punches a button
>A minor shudder shakes the craft as they fall away
>Some time later, and a much larger light flashes
External tank empty; jettisoning now
>He punches a larger button
>The entire ship rocks as the massive red fuel tank detaches, and slowly falls away
>Eventually, you find yourself able to move once more
>Your hooves go to your specially modified harness

>You don't need no stinking harness
>But at the same time, he is the expert....
>You let your hooves fall back to your sides


>You've been sitting here for a while now
>And you're starting to get bored
>Pinkie Pie's been babbling away about being the first p0ny to party in space
>Anonymous and Twilight are deep in discussion about...
>Space toilets?
>Fluttershy's been pressing herself back into her seat ever since the engines ignited, her eyes shut tight
>Rarity hums quietly to herself as she stitches something together with her magic
>And Applejack looks as bored as you are
>You're about to speak up when you suddenly feel...

>Around you, everyp0ny else releases small sounds of wonder and amazement as they float up to the limits of their harasses
>Except you and Anonymous

Canterlot, we have stable Orbit
>"Roger that Celestia one, you are free to begin testing"
>Anonymous clears his throat
Alright everyone, you heard the stallion.  Harnesses off!
>You're the first one out of your harness
>Pinkie Pie comes in close second
>You hover away from the seat and stretch out your wings
>You don't like sitting with them closed for too long
>As everyp0ny else unbuckles, Pinkie Pie shoots out of her seat and bounces around the cockpit
>"This is gonna be the BEST PARTY EVER!" she enthusiastically yells
>AppleJack finishes unbuckling and heads aft with Twilight and Fluttershy
>They're all probably going to check on their respective experiments
>Anonymous leans forward to look out the cockpit window
>You fly over to him as Rarity kicks off to a better vantage point

>"Oh.  Oh my..."
>That's the freakin' moon!
>It's HUGE!
>Anonymous chuckles
Quite the sight, isn't it?
Don't worry, we're not even getting started.
>There's more?
>Wow!
>This trip just gets awesomer and awesomer!


>You tap your hoof and wait impatiently for the "airlock" to cycle
>Is there really no air out there?
>Finally, the red light turns to green and the door in front of you slides open
>A circle of star speckled blackness looms, beckoning
>This is it
>You've waited the entire trip for this
>You spent enough time putting on this damn suit
>You're not turning around now
>You push off the hatch underneath you and shoot out into space!
>A white gloved hand shoots out and grabs your front hoof
>The radio in your ear crackles to life
Woah Nelly!  We can't have you shooting off into space
>"Relax Anon!  Rainbow Dash is always in control!"
>You flap your wings to demonstrate and push forward
>His grip on you swings you around towards the inside of the hull, so you give a soft reverse flap, halting your forward motion
How....
>"It's magic filly!  I don't gotta explain buck!"
Twilight's gonna love this...
>He mutters as he releases you
>You push up and out of the inside of the shuttle's bay
>You've got sights to see


>As you crest the open cargo bay doors, your mind goes back to how you ended up here
>Celestia wanted Equestria's best and brightest to go on the first space flight
>Anonymous was the one that got to ask you if you wanted to come
>He asked you just one question
>There had been laughter in his tiny eyes when he put it to you
>Laughter, and a glistening tear
>Do you want to boldly go where no p0ny has gone before?
>There was no way you could refuse when he put it like that
>There were other parts to the question, of course
>Something about strange new worlds and other civilizations
>There's another space ship under construction right now
>But the long term rigors of living in space must be worked out
>All thoughts of the past swiftly vacate your mind as you come up over the edge of the door


>The sight is truly awe inspiring
>Earth curves away below you, displayed in magnificent whites, blues and greens
>Above it hovers Luna's moon, in all its white and gray glory
>And just peeking over the horizon, you can see Celestia's sun
>Everywhere else the star speckled sky stretches out before you, as endless as it is beautiful
>A golden yellow visor enters your vision
>You look over to see Anonymous peering over the edge of the cargo bay door with you
No matter how many times I see it, it never gets old...
