  1. Him:
  2. A week ago or so I sent you a note about a ** Engineer role in [company-redacted] research organization, focusing on projects in synthetic biology, programmable matter, and bionanotechnology. Python and Javascript. I’m checking back in to see if you have any questions, any comments, or any interest.
  3.
  4. Me:
  5. Where is this position located? In what city? Is it remote work?
  6.
  7. Him:
  8. It’s located in San Francisco. I wasn’t sure if you were in the Bay Area or in St. Louis. There is a lot of team interaction, so working remote isn’t a possibility for this role.
  9.
  10. Me:
  11. San Francisco works for me, but that comment about a lot of team interaction does not. If I have to talk all the time, how am I to get my work done?
  12. Thanks, but I'll keep looking.
  13.
  14. Him:
  15. Ha! Good point. But this is by no means a kumbaya situation. I don’t think it’s right for a lone wolf, but if you enjoy interacting with very smart people while you work on your own project, I think it’s just the right amount of together time.
  16.
  17. They’re working on cutting edge projects, at the new facility at [tech-hotspot], also home of [notable-company-name] group.
  18.
  19.
  20. To the recruiters reading this:
  21. If a developer sends a disqualifier, sending a hail Mary response isn't going to help the situation. This is where emotions enter the thread. This is how you get desperate developers.
