  1. The rain was pelting down on the small little event which had been set up by Hope's Peak, to honor one of the recently fallen pupils.
  2.
  3. The name of that pupil was Matsuda Yasuke.
  4.
  5. In that rain was a whole array of strange and bizarre individual, their manner of dress ranging from the simple to the extravagant. Almost all of them, looked as if though there was a story made about them, they would be it's main character.
  6.
  7. In fact, there seemed to be one man, or rather boy, who did not fit the profile of being 'a main character'. He was a boy so pathetically boring that it seemed that the only type of character that he could possibly be, would be supporting.
  8.
  9. The name of that man Makoto Naegi. In the academy of Hope's Peak, his title was one of the most boring and plain ones to exist. He was the Ultimate Lucky Student. The token ordinary, among the extraordinary. For if the rest of the students in Hope's Peak were diamonds, he was nothing but a stone.
  10.
  11. Still, it gave him pleasure, being here. Here he had made friends, friends who he could count and rely on.
  12.
  13. Unfortunately, the Ultimate Neurologist was not one of them.
  14.
  15. Naegi didn't know the man very well. In fact, it would not be accurate to call him something other than a passing acquaintance. The only time that the two of them had ever interacted was when Naegi needed to go to the clinic for a check up. Between those moments, Naegi and him would never interact apart from maybe bumping into each other in the school.
  16.
  17. Therefore, the relationship should have been an impersonal one. They should have merely have been patient and doctor. Yet, a part of him always thought that the good doctor looked at him with a very odd expression. It was as if it were a mixture of rage, hatred, envy and pity.
  18.
  19. Naegi had always wondered why that was. What did he have to be jealous of? What item could he possess that Matsuda Yasuke envy and not obtain for himself?
  20.
  21. He sighed. He should have asked. Perhaps if he had, the two could have struck up a friendship and undo whatever misunderstanding was between them. Doing so could have prevented this awful, awful event.
  22.
  23. It was odd. Heading to Hope's Peak, he never expected for all those things to happen. In fact, if you had told him they would, Naegi would have laughed in your face.
  24.
  25. After all, he never expected Hope's Peak to be rightfully accused of human experimentation. He never expected the reserve course to take arms against the faculty when someone spread that information to the masses. He never expected the school council to massacre each other and for the culprit to walk away.
  26.
  27. Yet, he had still not given up hope.
  28.
  29. Hope that they would make it through this dark storm. Hope that he knew would unite the world and all of it's peoples one day, if they let it. And he knew that they would, eventually. After all, there was no one so evil that they would wish nothing but misery on others.
  30.
  31. The giggles to his left stopped.
  32.
  33. Naegi turned around to face what had once been the origin of the sound.. To his left, Enoshima Junko had an umbrella held above her head by her elder sister, Mukuro Ikubusa. All through, it was a funeral, this giggling had been going on through out it.
  34.
  35. Mukuro had explained to the offended parties that it was just the stress and grief manifesting itself. After all, Matsuda and Junko had been childhood friends and this event was truly sickening.
  36.
  37. The surgeon's body had been slowly brutally beaten, that if it were not DNA tests, he would completely unidentifiable. It was why the coffin hadn't had an open casket. After all, people generally didn't like to vomit more than they had to.
  38.
  39. Now, although the giggling had stopped, there was still a small little smile on Junko's beautiful face. It was if she found some kind of sick pleasure in this affair.
  40.
  41. But he knew that it was impossible. In fact, she was probably sadder than he ever could. To him, it was the burial of one of their peers. A classmate. A fellow student of Hope's Peak. To her, a friend was buried after brutaly being killed. That grin was just a coping method. For what could she possibly find amusing in this situation?
  42.
  43. Naegi felt sorry for her. How badly could this have affected her? He knew that laughter was often a way of dealing with situations which your mind could not possibly handle.
  44.
  45. It was at that moment that Naegi made an oath. He would help her.
  46.
  47. After another hour, the ceremony started to come to a close. After a quarter of that time had past, nearly all had left the newly dug grave. Finally, Naegi and the two where the only two by the grave.
  48.
  49. Junko looked up at Naegi, that small smile still on her face.
  50.
  51. "Hey Naegi... What do you want?"
  52.
  53. For a few seconds, Naegi considered what to say. He finally decided on the honest answer.
  54.
  55. "Enoshima... if you need some help... or something like that.... Just talk to me okay."
  56.
  57. At that statement, Enoshima looked somewhat surprised.
  58.
  59. Then Naegi saw beauty. For a true smile had formed on Enoshima's face, as she looked at him. It was like he was looking at Aphrodite herself.
  60.
  61. "Thank you."
  62.
  63. Naegi nodded, before walking away, still stunned by the beauty of the Ultimate Model's smile.
  64.
  65. Unbeknownst to him, Junko had turned around to face her sister and with a voice full of nothing but love and affection said this.
  66.
  67. "He's going to be fun, eh, Big sis?"
