  1. Hello my name is rosalinda316 and I will be reviewing your plot today. I will be judging your plot based off of three main things, your terrain, structures, and organics. Terrain is the earth beneath your plot. It includes things like hills, valleys, mountains, etc. Terrain pallet refers to the types of blocks used to build your terrain. These blocks typically are colors that work well with each other. Structure refers to your builds. Only the outside of your build is judged so you don't have to put detail on the inside, but it is always appreciated. A structure's pallet refers to specifically the blocks you chose to build your structure. Organics is a broad term that refers to anything living. This most often is applied to trees, but can also be applied to giant flowers, humanoids, or dragons. (Important note: Bonemealed trees do not rank on this server. Do not build them, build your own curvy, nice trees) Now that you know all the basic terms, on to the super review!

  3. Chances are, you're getting this review because your plot needs some major work in multiple areas. In fact, it might be easier to go /plot clear /plot confirm and restart. Now to start the first part, terrain. Your terrain is either plain, or nonexistent. Some basic tips to start with are putting in hills and changing the terrain color pallet from just grass to something more interesting. Hills can be made in many different ways, but good hills have a few things in common, mostly they are not very sharp like this (done in stone) http://i.imgur.com/IJDeNtw.png and they made of different blocks besides just grass (here three different block types were used, however they are not blended together thus, this is not a very good hill) http://i.imgur.com/he3Yja3.png
  4. Another thing to keep in mind about good hills, is that they are not "stairsteps" (as seen here) http://i.imgur.com/Vg6goQA.png
  5. A rolling hill type design usually has a flat top and gently rolling slopes like so (done all in stone) http://i.imgur.com/ZTXzMcL.png (note that the hill is an uneven shape, and the width of each layer varies. The greater the width of each layer, the more gradual the hill)
  6. Valleys are made in a similar way, except this time you're carving away the terrain. Be sure to keep a clear eye on how your terrain looks overall. If you have to, fly away from your plot and look at it from a distance. Patterns in the terrain will become more noticeable. (If there's one thing you want to avoid with terrain, it's patterns in your block placing/destroying design)
  7. Mountains are, like all terrain, made by layering stacks of blocks. However mountains are made vertically while hills and valleys are made horizontally. Almost all of the tips and tricks for hills, apply for mountains (avoid stair steps, avoid using one block pallets, make them unevenly shaped, and vary the height between each layer).
  8. Finally, this is a good picture of some fairly advanced terrain, it displays all of the things I've talked about. http://gyazo.com/81d258e93c8d0bb1eea276c2738d3d4b

  11. Structure: Structure refers to a lot of things, usually though, a structure is a building of some sort. Large scale structures are often easier to do because you can put more detail onto the outside of your build. (Please keep in mind that your structure is judged based on the outside, not whatever is on the inside; though inside decorations are nice). Detail is usually created by patterns on the walls with slabs or stairs. Detail can also be made by making bushes or flower pots (not the items, but things like these: http://i.imgur.com/La81xtW.png ) Another nice tip is this: http://i.imgur.com/8QdUMkL.png Place a torch, then an item frame, and then an anvil in the item frame. Rotate the anvil until it is sideways. You now have a sconce. \o/
  12.
  13. Try to add more depth and detail to your build as in add more layers to the wall and give it a more defined shape, then maybe you could add the very small details in your build. Usually for new builders I recommend following these easy steps for building a simple house:
  14. -Step 1: Do the outline of the building (house, tower, etc..)
  15. Example: http://gyazo.com/722eef1311518bf95f3f3f6de824b91e
  16.
  17. -Step 2: Search for a good block pallete and start filling in the house
  18. Example: http://gyazo.com/abb16edf6d6b5de57293ae801b07bf64
  19.
  20. -Step 3: Start adding in the final details and adjusting the shape of the building (if needed).
  21. Example: http://gyazo.com/4a9dffeb49e9bc4e66e68ab8374482a4
  22.
  23. Organics: Organics are live things, usually trees, but also things like large flowers, animals... you get the idea. Bonemealed trees will not rank on this server. Make your own. Please note, bigger trees are easier to build realistically, in that you can put more detail into the branches and leaves. A good tip is to watch plutouthere's youtube videos. He is a master tree builder. Before you start, another good idea is to look up source pictures of your tree and try and build something like that.
  24. For a basic tree, you can start by making a trunk and then curving it whichever direction you want. Make sure the trunk is wider at the base (like a real tree) http://i.imgur.com/tP5SeC2.png Be sure the tree curves and moves in a 3d way, it is not a drawing so feel free to have the trunk move.
  25. Next come the branches. These are much thinner and spread the tree out more. (I did them in oak to show more easily how they look) http://i.imgur.com/eOk9woh.png
  26. Don't forget about the roots of your tree. Don't make them too large or too small, try and make them match the tree you're doing. (I did them in birch so they'd be easy to see) http://i.imgur.com/1zq5U7d.png
  27. Depending on the type of tree you're going for, your leaf style might change. Willows for example, have draping leaves. Oaks have leaves that completely cover the branches. I built an oak styled tree here http://i.imgur.com/skCTh51.png Please note that the leaves are not a giant square around the branches. The leaves mold around the branches, but they also connect to the other leaves to make the tree seem more filled out and less like it has green fingers.
  28. Knowing all that, you should be able to go out and make a decent custom tree. When in doubt, look up videos online.

  30. Hopefully you enjoyed this super tutorial. Try and apply as many of the tips here as possible and you should rank up in no time flat. Good luck on your next submission!
