  1. 14[22:06] <@Valetni> As you exit the briefing room, you step out into the warm sunshine of a beautiful April day in Ustio. The wind is a bit sharp when it kicks up, swirling across the flight line, but other is quite tolerable. Listening to the roar of engines, you turn just in time to see two F-15s take off from the runway, one after another.
  2. 14[22:06] <@Valetni> Across the tarmac is the hangar, where your planes are kept, the quartermaster's office, and the living quarters. On this side on the airstrip is the briefing room, control tower, and admin buildings. Nearby, the crew of SPAAG sit on their vehicle, smoking and chatting amongst themselves. It doesn't really feel like a war is going on.
  3. [22:16] <BabaYaga-2> "Those were some good-looking planes," Sascha muses idly to whoever's listening as she watches the F-15s shrink toward the horizon. "The pilots have good taste." Her face then sours as her thoughts are brought back to the shabby MiG she'll be flying in the upcoming sortie. She's done a full inspection of the craft, of course, but only so much preparation can be taken. At this point it's up
  4. [22:16] <BabaYaga-2> to fate to decide if the plane will ultimately drop out of the sky like a lead balloon.
  5. [22:19] <Capybara-1> "Hey Dridel. Where the fuck is everyone. I need to talk to Nero"
  6. [22:21] <Drider-1> "He went out for a night on the town last I heard from him, as if there's anything the least bit interesting to do around here"
  7. [22:24] <Capybara-1> Without paying much attention he continues to rant. "Someone's got some explaining to do. I wanted bombs. The chucklefucks got rockets in my plane. I didn't sign up for this"
  8. [22:25] <Drider-1> "Bombs you say? Sounds as if you've got bombs to spare, pal."
  9. [22:25] <Bayshifter-2> Quentin makes his way towards Capy and Drider, Hoping to strike up a conversation with The other squadron. "Rockets are good. I mean, what plane did you get, I heard you are focused on ground targets eh?"
  10. [22:25] <Eagleclaw-2> As Ivan walks out of the briefing room he has a look of annoyance on his face. "These damn kids," he mutters, "they can't appreciate a real piece of machinery. The MiG-21 was good enough for plenty of true aces." His mind wanders to a different time. As he eyes the MiG in the hangar he can almost see the faces of those he lost. They flew MiGs. He remains silent. Staring.
  11. [22:26] <Capybara-1> Missiles are for pussies bub. Let gravity do the work. And bullets. Whatever
  12. [22:27] <Capybara-1> Damn, I need another plane.
  13. [22:27] <Bayshifter-2> "You have a point there. Too bad My own damn plane does not even have a gun."
  14. [22:28] <Eagleclaw-2> Getting his mind back in the present he takes a deep breath and walks away from the hangar. "Huh they look better with Yuke flags on them anyway."
  15. [22:31] <Frostbite-R> "Old but well maintained." Gerald says as he inspects his MiG. "At least they care about the older aircraft around here."
  16. [22:34] <Eagleclaw-2> Overhearing Gerald's appreciation of the MiG Ivan walks over. "Good to see someone else appreciates the classics. How familiar are you with the MiG?"
  17. [22:35] <BabaYaga-2> "You're crazy, old man. We're not in the motherland anymore. No point in being a patriot for a country that doesn't want us anymore, if it ever did." Sascha's accent is heavier as she grumbles about her home country, but she quickly recovers. "Anyway, whatever gets us in the air is worth having. Right, leader?" She smirks at Quentin, slapping him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, we've got
  18. [22:35] <BabaYaga-2> enough guns to make up for you."
  19. [22:36] <Frostbite-R> "Not much experience with it really, but with my experience I can tell a good aircraft from a bad one. It's up to the pilot to handle the rest."
  20. [22:39] <Eagleclaw-2> "Those are true words. A true ace makes his plane work for him. He takes what he has and makes it wor-" Interrupted by Sascha's interjection he turns to her in anger.
  21. [22:39] <+Bayshifter-2> Looking at both his wingmen, Quentin responds "I know you guys have my back"
  22. [22:40] <Eagleclaw-2> "You watch your mouth. So many people have sacrificed everything they had for our home."
  23. [22:40] <Drider-1> "Settle down people, lets save it for the Belkans..."
  24. [22:40] <Eagleclaw-2> "I'm supposed to expect someone like her to watch my back up there. If she has no respect for her home I can't trust her."
  25. [22:44] <Capybara-1> Making a funny face, Capybara just watches the whole thing, thinking about how Leasath is so much better. And how Aurelia should die in a fire.
  26. [22:44] <BabaYaga-2> Sascha uses the hand on Quentin's shoulder to push him back a bit so she can get up in Ivan's face, craning her neck to seem a little taller. "And who was it who sent them to be sacrificed? I hardly think they did it on purpose!" She opens her mouth for more vitriol, but thinks better of it and shakes her head. Her voice is calmer when she says, "I don't plan to die any time soon, old man.
  27. [22:44] <BabaYaga-2> I hope the same is true of you."
  28. [22:45] <Eagleclaw-2> "I should be worried about you. You know what they used to say back home. Girls can't be aces."
  29. [22:46] <Capybara-1> "SHOTS FIRED" Cleston yells from the other side, blinking at Drider
  30. [22:47] <Drider-1> I step back and join Capy to watch the ensuing furball unfold
  31. [22:47] <+Bayshifter-2> "Come on guys, don't want to die before we even take off from base, right"
  32. [22:48] <Drider-1> "Hey there's our lead! Where were you man?"
  33. [22:48] <BabaYaga-2> And there goes the calm facade. Sascha grabs Ivan's shirt and pulls him to her level. "I can outfly any one of these slackjawed sky jockeys, INCLUDING you, old man!"
  34. [22:48] <Eagleclaw-2> Ivan arrogantly crosses his arms. "We'll just see when push comes to shove if what they used to say is true. You sit there and criticize the plane when really it's the pilot at fault. Prove me wrong."
  35. [22:48] <Nero> "Got caught up talking to a cute little thing, sorry about that. Worth every minute though"
  36. [22:50] <+Bayshifter-2> Quentin, already tense, turns to look at flight 1's lead, Nero, "Pleasure to meet you, sir."
  37. [22:51] <Capybara-1> At this point Capy had already forgotten about the rockets. "Lucky you boss. Girls are meant for outside the tarmac. Look at what happens when we mix in a squad like the Basilisk folks"
  38. [22:51] <Nero> "Pleasure's all mine" Nero responds, as he stretches out his hand.
  39. [22:52] <BabaYaga-2> Sascha all but snarls, her grip tightening, but after a moment she pushes Ivan back and lets him go. "Salty old bastard. I'll take that bet." She walks back over to join Quentin, offering Capy a raised middle finger on the way.
  40. [22:53] <+Bayshifter-2> Quentin extends his hand, returning a firm, but friendly handshake to nero.
  41. [22:54] <Frostbite-R> "I think she likes you." Gerald says to Ivan quietly
  42. [22:54] <Capybara-1> Cleston answers with cold sweat comgin from his face. "Yeah, go play with your rockets girl. Beware not to break your nails or something."
  43. [22:55] <Eagleclaw-2> Ivan whispers back "With any luck she'll realize she isn't cut out for this after her first sortie. I look forward to you joining us. I just hope she quits before I get her in my crosshairs."
  44. [22:58] <+Bayshifter-2> Quentin attempts to get Ivan and Sascha's attention "So, y'all seen Aegis or Savoia? Seems Nero's flight is all here. Right?"
  45. [22:59] <Drider-1> "We're missing that crazy bastard Mockingbird" replies Dave
  46. [22:59] <+Nero> "I knew it was too quiet around here."
  47. [23:00] <Eagleclaw-2> "Who knows where Aegis is. He wasn't even at the briefing. Maybe he had second thoughts. We have reserves. Frostbite seems like a good guy."
  48. [23:00] <BabaYaga-2> Sascha pointedly ignores the gossiping whispers behind her, and focuses on the flight leader. He reminds her a bit of her younger brother, and she always felt guilty about getting into fights with him around. "Haven't seen Aegis since before the briefing. Savoia might be around but I don't know where."
  49. [23:00] <Capybara-1> "Guy is so bold he must be out there trying to hit Nero's girl by now"
  50. [23:02] <Eagleclaw-2> Joining up with his flight Ivan looks around at the hangars. "So what is everyone thinking of taking up there?"
  51. [23:04] <Capybara-1> Cleston suddenly remembers the rockets. "SHIET SON, almost forgot. No way I'm flying that Mirage. I want my bombs Nero. Get me a proper plane damnit"
  52. [23:05] <+Nero> "Make us some pay first, then we can start talking about requests."
  53. 06[23:05] * Capybara-1 frowns
  54. [23:06] <Capybara-1> "...yeah, whatever." Capybara slowly turns away walking to his quarters and completely ignoring the people around while cursing
  55. [23:09] <Drider-1> "Well sir it looks like we're flying at half strength for now."
  56. [23:09] <+Nero-1> "Twice the effort, twice the pay I guess"
  57. [23:10] <Drider-1> "Not a bad deal, if you make it back alive that is"
  58. [23:10] <Eagleclaw-2> Ivan turns to his flight team. "What the hell kind of name is clover anyway?"
  59. [23:11] <BabaYaga-2> "Taking the MiG. It may be a rusty old heap, but it's the most mobile. With the armaments they're giving us, we're better off flying between them and hoping they shoot each other by accident. Unless you think you can shoot a fighter jet down with rockets." Sascha grumbles that last part, mostly because she knows her chances of doing that are slim. "We need someone to hit the ground units,
  60. [23:11] <BabaYaga-2> though. That's the primary target."
  61. [23:12] <+Bayshifter-2> Quentin smirks at Ivans remark "Well, I'm guessing like a 4 leafed clover, which is lucky, right"
  62. [23:13] <+Bayshifter-2> "I got the ground targets, I beleive the F4 has enough firepower for them all."
  63. [23:14] <Eagleclaw-2> "So I guess you're not all looks are you, girl?"
  64. [23:15] <+Nero-1> "You've got good taste little lady, MiG's can go a long way if you've got the talent."
  65. [23:15] <Drider-1> Whispering to Nero "Hence the name Basilisk, she can kill with a glance, right boss?"
  66. [23:15] <Eagleclaw-2> "With the way she flies that won't take that MiG very far."
  67. [23:16] <+Nero-1> Quietly answering Drider "Most women can, given the chance."
  68. [23:16] <Drider-1> "Good point:
  69. [23:17] <BabaYaga-2> She gives Ivan a withering look. If she were looks at all she'd have been married off at a young age. "You wanted to see me fly, you'll damn well get your chance. Just try to keep up. They didn't leave room on those planes for a tow cable."
  70. [23:24] <Eagleclaw-2> Ivan thinks to himself that Sascha may be trying too hard to prove herself. Her aggression can cause her to make a mistake in the air. "I'll have to keep an eye on her up there," he whispers to himself. She'll need a veteran to guide her he thinks.
  71. [23:25] <BabaYaga-2> Slapping Quentin on the back again, Sascha forces a smile, trying hard to put aside the argument. "SO! We'll dust the escort off right away, then we'll have plenty of time to come back and keep you company while you clear the ground targets. Sound like a plan, Leader?"
  72. [23:27] <+Bayshifter-2> "Sounds like a plan. You in, right Ivan?"
  73. [23:28] <Eagleclaw-2> "Not my first sortie. Won't be my last. How are we going to work out the wingman situation?"
  74. [23:32] <BabaYaga-2> "I was planning on sticking to Bayshifter." The alternative certainly isn't appealing, after all. "I'll keep the enemy fighters off him while he takes out the ground units."
  75. [23:35] <+Bayshifter-2> "We could launch in a 3 plane formation, You and Sascha could do work together on the interceptors, later using any remaining rockets on the ground targets. After the sky is clear of course."
  76. [23:37] <Eagleclaw-2> "So Sascha will keep the interceptors off of you, Quentin. I can spread and cover the parts of the skies Sascha can't cover so nobody tries to flank."
  77. [23:37] <BabaYaga-2> "I... Yeah." She grimaces, looking over at Ivan. "Alright. That's a good plan. Whatever you think's best, Bay."
  78. [23:41] <Eagleclaw-2> Ivan thinks to himself that his flight team is pretty young and he'll have to keep an eye on them. "We'll be fine up there. Just keep good comms and stick to the plan." Ivan thinks he may have to deviate from the plan a bit if his team makes a mistake. He'll keep it a secret though.
  79. [23:41] <+Bayshifter-2> "Then that's our plan." Quentin just looks towards the sky. Unsure of what to say after. He knows there is tension amongst his own squad. Only time will tell if he can manage to hold them all together.
