  1. Pokemon Emerald any% FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator?
  4. A: No, I play on a Gamecube through a Gameboy Player using a Gameboy SP as a controller.
  5.
  6. Q: Why do you choose Mudkip?
  7. A: Because the Mudkip evolution family is the best for the speedrun, without it, my time would not be nearly as fast.
  8.
  9. Q: Do you really need to use Mudkip specifically, couldn't you use some other Pokemon?
  10. A: Yes. Yes I do. Otherwise I will not challenge my World Record.
  11.
  12. Q: Why do you catch Rayquaza then?
  13. A: Because outrage outrage outrage
  14.
  15. Q: Why did you keep reseting after getting Mudkip?
  16. A: If it looks like there is no reason, it's generally because my stats were bad. I need to have great IVs in attack and special stats otherwise I can not complete the run fast enough
  17.
  18. Q: What stats are good and what stats are bad?
  19. A: I check my stats as soon as I pick Mudkip. I will reset unless I have at least 13 attack, 9 speed, 11 special attack (I'll also run with 14 attack at 10 special attack)
  20.
  21. Q: About what are the chances of getting a Mudkip with stats you will keep?
  22. A: I will keep about 1 in 9 Mudkips.
  23.
  24. Q: Why do you want to be on low health?
  25. A: To try and activate Torrent, which is the ability of Mudkip and its evolutions
  26.
  27. Q: What does Torrent do?
  28. A: When Mudkip is below 1/3rd of it's max health, its Water type moves are boosted by 1.5x making him much more powerful, and thus faster.
  29.
  30. Q: What is the current World Record?
  31. A: A run hasn't been completed
  32.
  33. Q: Does this category use real time or game time?
  34. A: Real time, reseting is potentially necessary to continue + potentially faster, so game time isn't an option.
  35.
  36. Q: Why do you choose the girl?
  37. A: Because she is a slut, the boy talks less
  38.
  39. Q: Why do you use Frame 5?
  40. A: Because frame 4 sucks in this game.
  41.
  42. Q: Why do you name yourself and Mudkip 'I'?
  43. A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes, and the letter 'I' gives a nice spin as if the game was self-narrating
  44.
  45. Q: Why do you catch an Abra?
  46. A: C'mon son, what's the literally only thing Abra can do? Teleport fool!
  47.
  48. Q: Are there glitches in this run?
  49. A: Yes!
  50.
  51. Q: Where do the glitches start?
  52. A: After Winona, about an hour and a half into the run.
  53.
  54. Q: Why so late in the game?
  55. A: You need a Pomeg Berry to start, and you also need the 6th Gym Badge to get past the guards (because the guards only check for badge 6, assuming you need the rest to complete the game based on that you can't use the other HMs without them, and 6 only allows Fly, which conveniently is the one needed for this run)
  56.
  57. Q: What are the glitches?
  58. A: A tl;dr version is, you faint all your Pokemon using the Pomeg berry, then you scroll up for ~17 seconds, and then set the flag for Ever Grande Fly location being set, and fly there. Simultaneously, you either turn one of your Pokemon into a Bad Egg with a glitch move that grants Instant Victory in battles, or corrupt your quantity of Rare Candies to be higher than 100, and level up Swampert to beast the rest of the game.
  59.
  60. Q: That sounds easy, why do you think this run is so hard?
  61. A: Well, it's not easy. We've tried to work out the odds of getting the Fly location, it seems to be (at best) 1/64, but I think it's even wider odds, based on the fact that in practice I've tried this several 1000 times, and gotten it only twice. The rare candy corruption seems to be about the true 1/64, and the Bad Egg IVG is so variable it's ridiculous, odds would be impossible to calculate, but probably around 1/100 per Egg?
  62.
  63. Q: Ok, now I think that sounds impossible. Why are you doing this?
  64. A: Because someone has to, and I'm the most likely person to do it. It's not impossible, but I'll be straight, even if I get to Fortree the odds of me completing a run that's faster than the 2:48 real time is about 5-10% I reckon, and keep in mind a perfect run would save about an hour.
  65.
  66. Q: I just heard you orgasming like crazy and I couldn't see why...are you crazy?
  67. A: There are several trainers in this game that spin like crazy. It's either because one caught me, or one didn't >_>
  68.
  69. Q: Isn't this a luck based run?
  70. A: Yes, there is luck involved. Yes, I am still running it. I love pokemon and will run it regardless :)
