Eine Gruppe junger Leute unterwegs zu einem Campingtrip in die wilde Natur passiert einen provinziellen Friedhof und begeht den fatalen Fehler, nicht die Luft anzuhalten, wie es ein Aberglaube in solchen Fällen empfiehlt. Prompt fährt der Geist eines vor Jahrzehnten hingerichteten, religiös verwirrten Serienkillers in einen kiffenden Jüngling und setzt solchermaßen inkognito sein sadistisches Werk der Zerstörung fort. Als die Gruppe ausgerechnet an seiner alten Kriminalpsychiatrie Station macht, eskaliert die Situation.

Wieder fahren Städter nach Hinterwald, doch werden sie dort zur Abwechslung einmal nicht von Backwoods-Maniacs, sondern von sich selbst geschlachtet. Weil ein Killer bzw. sein Geist nämlich Besitz von ihren Körpern ergreift, und diese sogar wechseln kann, wie es ihm beliebt. Früher hätten Asylum-Filme entweder in der Geisterklapse oder am Waldsee stattgefunden, heute kann man sich beides leisten. Kreatives Killen auf schmalem Budget, für solche Fälle durchaus guckbar.
