- Hey guys,
- A while back I asked about getting FreeBSD to work on a PowerPC machine. I really did not get that to work as I liked so recently I decided to give OpenBSD a try. They have a PowerPC port (macppc) for older Apple PPC desktops and laptops. The install was extremely simple and in no time it was loaded. I install xfce, i3, and pekwm using pkg. I wanted to see the performance in these different environments. So far I am really impressed. Sound worked out of the box (something that I need manually do under linux). Accelerated graphics is somewhat working at least to the point where I can play video in mplayer with xv format. I got ARC GTK theme installed but I thinking of changing it since my windows are dragging when I move them. The downside is the lack browser options for macppc. The only graphical browser that I can get working is netsurf. It is fast and lightweight but limited in features. I am probably going to keep on my PowerBook G4 for a while at least the 7.0 so I can see how the upgrade process goes. Anyways thanks for the show!
