  1. Arma 3 Overview
  2.
  3. Let me start by saying that I'm a long time Arma player, so while playing Arma 3 I can only see major improvements.
  4.
  5. User Interface:
  6. The first thing I've noticed was the revamped/improved user interface and it's better then ever, not only it looks great but it's usability has improved a lot from Arma 2 OA.
  7. I do have a little suggestion for the easier difficulty settings, that would be to show an icon with the player current stance, since there are so many different stances new players might get overwhelmed by them, like not knowing what stance they are in. A small icon might help to understand them better.
  8.
  9. Controls:
  10. The (default) controls got a little more complex since Arma 2 but they do make more sense now.
  11. I think the Space key for actions does make it easier for using actions although, it seems that if you look at, for example, a vehicle to board it but you have a higher priority action like the self heal, you still need to go through your actions menu. My suggestion would be to have a way to make actions from objects that you are currently looking at with higher priority then the player's character self actions.
  12. I also like how the new kneel/prone/stand keys work now, this was actually made simpler by assigning the 3 actions to only two keys (Z and X).
  13.
  14. Movement/Animations:
  15. The movement is smooth and character reacts better then ever to user input.
  16. I found that it is still hard to move through buildings doors though, not so much as in Arma 2 but still the doors seem to be smaller then they should.
  17. The diversity of animations is fantastic, since I'm quite used to Arma games it was pretty easy for me to get used to them, but for new players an extensive tutorial may be needed on the stances modifier.
  18. I'm a bit unsure about the tactical pace yet. Might have some more feedback after getting more time to use it. But the idea is great, you can still fire while moving a little faster then normal walking speed, with the disadvantage of having a very poor accuracy.
  19. Like in previous Arma's, there seems to be no option to make your character walk by default other then when inside a mission, you can double tap the Shift key, although I think there should be an option so you don't have to double tap Shift everytime you start or load a mission.
  20. I also like the feature that forces you to walk when tired but I think the character does get tired very quickly, more then what I would expect, especially when only carrying a rifle, pistol and vest.
  21. It seems you no longer are able to switch from Standing to Kneel and Kneel to Standing while running.
  22.
  23. Scuba:
  24. This was definantly a very nice addition to the game and hopefully there will be enough missions for players to enjoy it.
  25. I've had an issue while scubadiving, a couple of times I got stuck without being able to move for many seconds.
  26. Character seems to not be able to reload or fire his weapon while swimming. I haven't got the opportunity to see how this will affect the underwater fighting but may seem clunky, especially for new players.
  27. I've noticed that when player is on water surface there's no particle effects on the water from character movement. (Probably still work in progress)
  28.
  29. Graphics/Visuals:
  30. The game visuals are fantastic, the lighting looks great and more colorful then ever.
  31. I got the impression that the vegetation doesn't have those rough changes like in Arma 2.
  32.
  33. Vehicle Handling:
  34. The vehicle handling seems good, may need more time driving around before I can give more feedback.
  35. The vehicles from the "Vehicles Showcase" seem to have some kind of auto flip to standard position, if you flip it over, making it look very unrealistic.
  36.
  37. Overall I'm quite impressed with the current build of the game and the effort to make it more user-friendly did pay off.
  38. Something I was really looking for was the new physics handling through PhysX and I like what I have seen so far.
  39. The new inventory system is also very well done and the character costumization is simpler then I thought from the video demonstrations at the E3 and GC. This is for sure one of my favourite improvements too and having the possibility to change the outfit will make a nice impact on gameplay.
  40. The field manual is a very nice touch and being able to check it while in-game is pretty fantastic.
