- [UK] hey, people in the UK: can anyone house a disabled dude for about three months?
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 5 hours ago
- here's the deal: i'm breaking up with my boyfriend and i have nowhere to go.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 5 hours ago
- i can claim housing and benefits in the UK, but i need to be resident there for three months before i can do that.
- Abs Benedict 5 hours ago
- if you don't get any options from anyone else, I can check with some people I know in the UK
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 4 hours ago
- thank you!
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 4 hours ago
- also, uh, please replurk this even if you can't help
- Witchmas 4 hours ago
- oh shit
- Witchmas 4 hours ago
- yeah, not in the UK but I've got people on my timeline. I'll pass it on
- ѕelĸιe 4 hours ago
- replurking
- ѕelĸιe 4 hours ago
- just in case
- Bethlejenn Down 4 hours ago
- I know people in the UK but not in the UK myself
- ¢αмєℓℓια ∂яєαм 4 hours ago
- I can't personally help thanks to my own situation but I'll replurk... hopefully the grapevine can help you.
- Sɴᴏᴡғʟᴏᴘ 4 hours ago
- oh damn, good luck Zack
- reineke 4 hours ago
- I don't know you, but as someone with friends in the UK who are disabled, I can tell you that especially in the last year things have changed a lot and it's actually really fucking difficult to get any of the
- reineke 4 hours ago
- benefits, even for a citizen
- reineke 4 hours ago
- and they are cracking down hard on foreigners
- reineke 4 hours ago
- part of the motivation behind Brexit was the thinking that a lot of EU citizens come to the UK for the free benefits, whether that's true or not, so they are really trying to combat that
- reineke 4 hours ago
- there's a housing crisis, so housing pretty much doesn't exist and you have to apply and have to be employed to get anything...
- reineke 4 hours ago
- every last one of my girlfriend's friends who has any kind of disability and used to have benefits lost them in the last year
- reineke 4 hours ago
- again, I don't know you and I really don't mean to offend you in any way and maybe you have something that makes this a sure thing for you!
- reineke 4 hours ago
- I don't want to presume anything, but in case you don't have a sure thing yet, it might not be the ideal plan
- reineke 4 hours ago
- either way, I sincerely wish you the best and I'm definitely no expert, I just felt bad not sharing this knowledge in case you don't have it figured out yet
- THE EMPEROR 4 hours ago
- ^ this. it's really, really hard to get disability right now. the baseline criteria, beyond which you'll have to fight them for it, which takes months, are that you can't feed/ move/ clean yourself.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 4 hours ago
- Are you not a British citizen? Honestly it galls a little to suggest coming over here just to wait to get Benefits.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 4 hours ago
- I'm sorry your struggling, but that's really not the answer.
- Teeff 4 hours ago
- yeah. my dad had terminal cancer and even he was denied benefits, and that was a couple years ago- it's got worse since
- Witchmas 4 hours ago
- his family's in either the UK or Ireland, I forget
- kate! 4 hours ago
- do you just need a new address where you can like... be for three, steady months?
- Witchmas 4 hours ago
- but I know they are not on good terms
- Witchmas 4 hours ago
- which complicates stuff
- Robber of ATMs 4 hours ago
- I've got a disabled friend who has lost most of her benefits this year - it has become REALLY hard over here, sorry to say. Due warning so you are prepared
- peppermint pura 4 hours ago
- Aaa I'm so sorry zack
- reineke 4 hours ago
- I was unclear on whether you're a UK citizen or not, but either way, I wish you the best of luck
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- regenerate i'm an irish citizen and i lived in ireland for 10 years. i grew up there.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- i'm not coming to the UK "just for benefits", i'm moving back to an area i grew up in. i can't go home to dublin because my parents are abusive and don't believe i'm ill and don't accept my transition.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- I'm sorry you have difficulty with your family. But to all intents and purposes you're not a a British citizen. So you'd not have an easy time trying to come over here and wait it out to get benefits.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- When people struggle for years to try and get them. It likely wouldn't be all that pleasant for you when people are quite unhappy about so called benefit tourism. (even if that's ostensibly not the case).
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- And even if it by on large doesn't exist, it's just propaganda.
- AdventCalamity 3 hours ago
- sorry, wish we could help!
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- regenerate i know about the problems with benefits rn, but i don't really have a choice, do i? or do you like want a gay trans cripple with a heavy russian accent to be homeless in berlin, lol??
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- like what do you want me to do.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- i don't have friends or family back in ireland that would accept me back, i don't have connections in berlin and i can't even get into a homeless shelter here bc i don't speak german.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- also uh, i came in here to say i found somewhere to stay!
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- No, but with the greatest respect, why is that the responsibility of the UK government? Again, I'm sorry you're in that situation, it's awful.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- okay, i'm going to make this crystal clear: the UK government treats irish citizens the way they do british citizens when it comes to benefits, housing, jobseeker's allowance, etc. i am an irish citizen.
- monkey mom 3 hours ago
- regenerate: it's the responsibility of the U.K. Government because he is A CITIZEN OF THE UK
- monkey mom 3 hours ago
- Basically
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- I understand that, I think you're misunderstanding my point. The UK treats all EU citizens the same way.
- #TOUR HELL 3 hours ago
- ...........................???????????????????????????????????????? but he's... from the UK???? the UK includes ireland????????????????????????
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- no, irish citizens have a special status that is not EEA status.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- He isn't a British Citizen, no, he's an EU citizen, so gets rights, yes.
- dunce 3 hours ago
- I'm glad you found a place to stay! :-D (would have realigned but the person who did has all the same people on my timeline, so)
- monkey mom 3 hours ago
- Because he is an Irish citizen and as he's said THE UK TREATS THEM AS BRITISH CITIZENS FOR THE PURPOSES HE NEEDS
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- No ireland is not in the UK
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- no, i'm a citizen of the common area!!
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- Northern Ireland is
- Bones 3 hours ago
- I'm just curious: is there anywhere in Ireland you can stay other than with your family? It seems (from my completely uneducated standpoint of "countries help their own")
- Bones 3 hours ago
- like it would be easier for you to get assistance there. Also, I'm glad you found a place to stay
- monkey mom 3 hours ago
- regenerate: you are an idiot.
- Bones 3 hours ago
- and I hope everything does work out for you
- AdventCalamity 3 hours ago
- ....I'm just going to mute this now...sorry guys
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- jenovaboi i'm sorry
- Ho ho NO 3 hours ago
- sub_textual: no, it doesn't. Northern Ireland is a part of the U.K., the Republic of Ireland is not
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- I wasn't trying to be confrontational, it appears to be taken that way. If so I apologise.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- tackydragons nope.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- And i'm not an idiot, but thanks.
- Ho ho NO 3 hours ago
- He is not a UK citizen
- #TOUR HELL 3 hours ago
- LuceButNotLiterally: OK thanks for clarifying
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- also, fwiw, i was getting my information on british and irish citizens from here
- Bones 3 hours ago
- That sucks. :-( I'm sorry, bruh. But I'm sending you positive vibes.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- thank you!
- Bones 3 hours ago
- <3 Good luck.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- like i said, i have somewhere to stay, and worst case scenario of having to move back to ireland, i can just avoid dublin lol
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- I was more trying to highlight how difficult getting benefits are here and I wouldn't want you to get yourself here and in a worse situation somehow
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- my mum is prominent in the art community in dublin, so i can't just sneak back in
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- I'm glad you've managed to find somewhere to stay though
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- right, i know. but i currently have no benefits or anything from the german government and i'm dependent on my boyfriend so it's literally no way i can end up in a worse position.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- If you find yourself here you might be able to get a crisis loan. They are usually incredibly small, but can be helpful. Done via the job centre, or at least used to be.
- ɴᴏʟʟᴀɪɢ ᴍʜᴀᴛʜ ♞ 3 hours ago
- The loops they make people go through now for disability are horrendous though. it's terrible.
- Abs Benedict 3 hours ago
- while citizens of the Republic of Ireland aren't UK citizens, Britain grants all Irish citizens permanent residency status/right of abode, & Ireland does the same for Brits, as per the Immigration Act of 1971
- hoho gothicgirl 3 hours ago
- Hello, sorry but am I right in thinking you're not coming in from Ireland? If that's the case, if you're unable to work, then I don't think you technically have a the right to reside?
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- i'm ... probably able to work if pushed.
- THE EMPEROR 3 hours ago
- regardless, good luck. I hope you can find somewhere safe for yourself.
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- in any case, i just need to get out of germany and then i'll figure something out. like mattnificent said, i have a permanent right to reside in the UK
- ❥ɳϵᴄʀσϻɑƞτιᴄ 3 hours ago
- hoist thank you!!
- hoho gothicgirl 3 hours ago
- Oh! Sorry. I was confused. I thought you were trying to live off disability benefits.
- hoho gothicgirl 3 hours ago
- I think if you're able to work then disability benefits only help you with that work.
