  1. Script for DOU Archetype Analysis(Formatted using PomMan's minute guide to writing good scripts):
  2. (will be done in ps teambuilder just like the ru version if thats alright)
  3.
  4. Intro:
  5. Hey guys, Paraplegic here, and welcome to this new series called DOU Archetype Analysis! In this series we will be looking at the different types of archetypes used in today's DOU metagame. Today we are going to be looking at Mega Gardevoir SemiRoom, one of the more dominant archetypes in the current DOU metagame! We will talk about what makes this kind of build so effective right now, how to build the archetype for yourself, big potential threats to the archetype are that you need to look out for, and at near the end I will give you a sample team so you can see all this information applied! Without further ado, lets get into it!
  6.
  7. Point 1(What Makes it so Effective?):
  8. Ok so what makes this kind of team effective anyways? Well for starters, Mega Gardevoir is a huge threat in DOU with its ability to throw off Pixilate Boosted Hyper Voices coming off a base 165 special attack stat that hits both opponents at the same time. Mega Gardevoir is further boosted by its ability to set Trickroom for itself and allies, allowing it outpace threats faster then itself and hit them before they have a chance to hit it. The archetype is usually dedicated around supporting mega gardevoir so it is able to effectively accomplish these things, and thats what really allows the archetype to shine as a whole.(Before moving to next point, I will click on the teambuilding tab I have open in the background with mega gardevoir already cached)
  9.
  10. Point 2(How do I build a team of this archetype?):
  11. (before starting this part, I will go over the standard moves and a somewhat typical ev spread for garde)
  12. There are many types of pokemon you can effectively add to a team of this composition that will allow it to carry out it's goal. For starters, one of mega gardevoirs biggest flaws is its usual inability to effectively take physical hits. A simple and easy fix to this is to add an intimidate user such as landorus-therian, scrafty, or gyarados(as I mention any mon Im talking about for potential teammates I will bring them up in the teambuilder as a visual reference) to your team, as they allow gardevoir to stomach physical hits a lot better! Another flaw is its inability to deal with steel types. Adding a fire, fighting, or ground type like volcanion, conkeldurr, or Landorus-T can allow you to deal with these pokemon, the most common 4 being jirachi, heatran, aegislash, and ferrothorn. Something else gardevoir can struggle to do is set up its trickroom if it doesnt have the proper support. That is why you will often find a fake out user such as scrafty and more rarely hitmontop on the team as a means of support. A pokemon that deserves a special mention as being a huge pain for this archetype is Talonflame, as it generally hits most of the common pokemon found on this build hard, and ignores trickroom if you happen to have it up. To counteract talonflame, pokemon such as heatran, volcanion, and thundurus-I are common sights on these types of teams. One final thing I want to mention is redirection. Jirachi and Amoonguss both have incredible synergy with gardevoir. Jirachi has extremely good type synergy, absorbing most hits that threaten gardevoir with ease, and Amoonguss not only soaks up hits, but takes advantage of trickroom by firing off super speedy spores with its base 30 speed stat, and having regenerator to boot allowing it to switch out if it gets to a low amount of hp so it can come in later and do its job again. All of the pokemon I mentioned are pretty good partners for gardevoir and generally good pokemon in the metagame in general, so you you can't go wrong by using them!
  13.
  14. Point 3(What are some of the biggest threats to these types of builds?):
  15. Even with how solid this type of team is in DOU, its not perfect and there are certain threats you still have to look out for. As mentioned before, Talonflame is a huge potential threat, and a common one at that. Another huge threat, albeit less commonly seen, is Landorus-I. Its coverage options are wide and expansive, and it has almost every tool it needs to threaten this build due to its ability to fire off sheer force boosted attacks. Mega Charizard Y teams can often offer a rough matchup, as if you cant get up trickroom in a timely fashion versus them you will often succumb to the onslaught of offensive pressure generally seen on those teams.
  16.
  17. Point 4(Sample team!):
  18. (Here I switch over to another team I have on hand in the team builder so I may show a really good varient of the team)
  19. Ok! This is KyleCole and Dawg's Gardevoir semiroom, and it is arguably one of, if not the best variants out there. As you can see, every pokemon here is one that I mentioned, as they all work really well with gardevoir, and on this team in particular the synergy is rather great. They used pokemon that are kind of slow, but very bulky, which is very typical of semiroom teams in general. Something about this team to point out is that while he has actually covered his talonflame and Mega charizard y bases rather well, Their team is extremely weak to Landorus-I, and whenever he faces one it is a very uphill battle to claim victory. They is also not using fakeout which can occasionally be detrimental if he gets put it a bad spot and needs trickroom to be brought up.
  20.
  21. Conclusion:
  22. So there you have it! This style of team is one of the most prevalent and successful archetypes in DOU right now, and its pretty easy to see why. The combination of speed control, bulk, strong attackers, and flexibility make this archetype extremely consistent and gives it generally positive matchups across the board. Its general ability to support one of the most feared megas in the meta so well sets it apart from other team compositions and really allows mega gardevoir semiroom to shine! This has been DOU archetype analysis episode 1, and I hope you guys enjoyed! See you all next time!
