  1. THE ORGANS
  2.
  3. Many of Euphaire's organs are mutated by the Renegade Virus. The strangest mutation is her heart. Instead of the four channels of a normal human heart, Euphaire's heart has eight channels - four atriums and four ventricles, with form circulatory pairs and beat in an alternating series, like two hearts fused together. The reason for this is that many of her body's other processes have been co-opted into the cardiovascular system, and connected directly to the heart. Euphaire does not possess a lymphatic system - instead, an increased number of veins and arteries carry white blood cells and plasma, with mutated blood cells acting as lymph vessel substitutes.
  4.
  5. Her pulse and heart rate would appear normal, although an EKG would detect heavy abnormalities. Her sinus rhythm would have two QRS spikes per 'heartbeat' and increased amplitude, due to the fact that each 'heartbeat' is actually half of the heart beating while the other half contracts. A stethoscope would be able to pinpoint the abnormal sound, but measuring her pulse at anywhere but the source would only detect half of her heart activity, resulting in a normal pulse reading.
  6.
  7. Her blood pressure is sharply increased, but spread out among an increased number of tumid blood vessels, meaning that most blood pressure readings would also falsely display as normal. While a normal human of Euphaire's size would possess about four liters of blood, Euphaire's body efficiently circulates over twenty liters.
  8.
  9. Her kidneys and liver facilitate runaway production of thrombopoietin by a highly abnormal margin. The first effect of this is severe thrombocytosis, or overproduction of platelets in the blood. A secondary effect is overproduction of megakaryocyte cells in the bone marrow, resulting in internal swelling of the bones. Normally, this would stretch and weaken the bone matter, but the chimaera strain of the virus counteracts this with reactionary over-calcification, resulting in increased toughness instead. Euphaire's bones are thick and dense enough to block bladed weapons on their own, and make amputation almost impossible. [Giant's Life Force]
  10.
  11. Due to her mutated liver, Euphaire's body requires a large amount of Vitamin K2, which she can receive by drinking blood - resulting in her bloodsucking Impulse, whenever she smells any blood that is not her own. Her Impulse can be ameliorated to some extent with a diet high in Vitamin K2 - Natto is one of the best 'normal' sources of it, but consuming animal livers would do a better job at suppressing her Impulse. However, the effects would only be temporary, as the increased Vitamin K2 intake would merely result in higher production of thrombopoietin and Factor VII until the excess was used up, and she would quickly re-enter a deficiency state.
  12.
  13. Euphaire's olfactory receptors are mutated as well, and are highly receptive to the 1-octen-3-one odorant, which is responsible for 'metallic' smells, and released by iron content in animal blood. [Fragrant Fresh Blood]

  16. THE BLOOD
  17.
  18. Euphaire has a unique blood type. Her red blood cells do not present A or B antigens, and a blood test would falsely identify her as having Type O- blood. However, the reality is that her red blood cells present a unique antigen, a "renegade antigen" referred to as Type-R, which human blood cells cannot possess an antibody for. While she would be identified as a universal donor, with tests misattributing her Type-R blood for Type-O, a blood transfusion would result in her Type-R antigens going undetected by the patient's immune system, roaming free and causing unpredictable results. Overeds, however, can have Type-R antibodies in their blood, which would instead incite an immune response and possibly a hemolytic reaction, counteracting any effects that her Type-R antibodies would have on the body. [Embrace]
  19.
  20. Virus bodies are present both freely in her bloodstream, and within the bodies of blood cells and platelets, which she has an incredibly high count of due to her mutated liver, and to a lesser extent, the kidneys. The renegade virus bodies absorb antithrombin, which is responsible for inhibiting serine protease-class factors, and her mutated liver produces an overabundance of Factor VII, resulting in what would be an otherwise-fatal diagnosis of thrombophilia - a tendency for blood clots to form inside of blood vessels.
  21.
  22. However, Euphaire's blood does not actually possess ligand bodies, which signal platelets to form into clots. Instead, the virus bodies themselves actively facilitate this feature in a toggleable fashion, as they float freely in Euphaire's bloodstream. Normally, Euphaire's blood does not clot at all, which would actually result in severe hemophilia. The virus reacts to strain, pressure, or impact by releasing chemical signals to surrounding platelets. Due to her extremely high platelet count, and high presence of clotting factors produced by her liver, this results in an internal blood clot forming almost immediately, an involuntary phenomenon that could be called "shear-thickening thrombosis". [Aegis Shield]
  23.
  24. Due to her heavily mutated platelets and blood cells, her blood does not clot into a fibrous gel. Instead, high pressure causes it to solidify into a cubic crystal lattice structure, similar to the lattice structure of diamond. When her shear-thickening thrombosis activates, she is unable to move the affected limb (if applicable), as the joint is solidified by the clot, and muscle contraction is blocked by the formed solid. This effect would normally cause muscular damage, but her natural healing factor as an Overed prevents this damage from accumulating - in fact, the repeated tearing and healing of her muscles actually builds them up, as intense exercise would, resulting in increased strength across her entire body.
  25.
  26. Virus bodies in her bloodstream can release their absorbed antithrombin in order to break the clot, if it is internal. However, Euphaire can control and prevent this effect, allowing a solidified clot to cover an external wound. [Immortal's Grace]

  29. THE SWORD
  30. The Hero's Bloodedge, Euphaire's greatsword, is formed from approximately six liters of her own blood - more blood than would be present in a normal human's entire body, but only 30% of Euphaire's own blood. Due to the fact that her cardiovascular system includes auxiliary systems, such as her lymphatic system, she doesn't enter a state of asphyxiation from losing this percentage of blood - she would have to lose over 60% of the blood in her body before she displayed symptoms of a class II hemorrhage (blood loss requiring resuscitation), as opposed to 15% for a normal human.
  31.
  32. The blood is clotted into the shape of a 1.5 meter long blade that weighs fifteen pounds - about five times the weight of a medieval longsword. It has the appearance of a large red ruby, exhibiting the cubic crystal structure caused by the abnormal clotting procedure of her mutated platelets. The impact strength of her crystallized blood makes the sword very resilient, and it does not shatter even with large forces exerted on it. However, it does not have a sharp edge - the crystal structure results in a jagged edge which cannot effectively cut a target. It could be used as an ineffective saw, but for the most part, it's more of a heavy club, which requires Euphaire's increased strength in order to wield effectively. While she calls it a sword, it is actually better compared to a kanabo.
