  1. Equipment needed to stream KH games
  2. ===================================
  3. This guide is for Windows systems. I don't know enough about streaming from OS X or Linux to provide recommendations, sorry.
  4. This guide will also always assume you want to play off your TV while capturing the feed. If you're willing to play off the capture
  5. feed on your computer, then you may be able to purchase less equipment (namely, splitters and cables).
  6.
  7. Terms:
  8. SD = Standard Definition (4:3)
  9. HD = High Definition (16:9)
  10. RCA/Composite = Red, White, Yellow cables/input for SD games
  11. Component = Green, Blue, Red, White, Red cables/input for HD games
  12. HDMI = High-Definition Multimedia Interface cables/input for HD games
  13. Splitter = Device that splits one input into two inputs
  14. HDCP = High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (a form of copyright protection on HDMI devices)
  15.
  16. PS2 games
  17. ---------
  18. Hardware:
  19. - PS2
  20. - PC
  21. - Any SD capture card (e.g. Dazzle, EZCap)
  22. - 3 RCA splitters (one for each color) unless your capture card has pass-through
  23. - Extra RCA cables
  24. Software:
  25. - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
  26. - Possibly drivers and/or software for your SD capture device
  27. - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
  28. Notes:
  29. - PS2s are also capable of outputting via Component, so if you have Component capture equipment, you may be able to use that
  30.
  31. PS3 games
  32. ---------
  33. Hardware:
  34. - PS3
  35. - PC
  36. - Either an SD (e.g. Dazzle, EZCap) or an HD (e.g. LGP, HDPVR, Elgato) capture card
  37. - If SD:
  38. - RCA PS3 cable (the one from a PS2 will work)
  39. - 3 RCA splitters (one for each color) unless your capture card has pass-through
  40. - Extra RCA cables
  41. - If HD:
  42. - Component PS3 cable or HDMI cable
  43. - If Component:
  44. - 5 splitters unless your capture card has pass-through with no delay (most HD ones do)
  45. - Possibly extra Component cables
  46. - If HDMI:
  47. - An HDMI splitter THAT STRIPS HDCP. Not all splitters bypass HDCP, so be sure to check product reviews before buying.
  48. - Extra HDMI cables
  49. Software:
  50. - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
  51. - Possibly drivers and/or software for your capture device (highly likely for HD devices)
  52. - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
  53. Notes:
  54. - Be careful when selecting an HD capture device. You'll probably want to use Component so you don't have to worry about bypassing HDCP, so make sure your capture device has Component input. Some devices have Component input with HDMI passthrough, so you may not even need extra Component cables. Component can still output at 1080p, so you won't lose any quality. It's also important to research the capture delay for your device so that you are well-informed. I can personally vouch for the AverMedia Live Gamer Portable (LGP), but it does have a few quirks with OBS and an internal capture card may be preferential for some to reduce delay even further.

  56. GBA games
  57. ---------
  58. Hardware:
  59. - Gamecube
  60. - Gameboy Player
  61. - GBA
  62. - Maybe something else...? I'm not too familiar...
  63. - SD capture card
  64. - 3 RCA splitters
  65. - Extra RCA cables
  66. Software:
  67. - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
  68. - Possibly drivers and/or software for your capture device
  69. - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
  70. - VisualBoyAdvance Emulator if you're a dirty cheater ;)
  71. Notes:
  72. - I've never captured a GBA game, so you may want to contact a GBA runner for specific advice/recommendations
  73.
  74. DS games
  75. --------
  76. Hardware:
  77. - DS/3DS modded to include capture device
  78. - Mini-USB cable? I think DS capture cards output straight to USB...
  79. Software:
  80. - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
  81. - Possibly drivers and/or software for the capture card
  82. - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
  83. - DeSmuME Emulator if you're a dirty cheater ;)
  84. Notes:
  85. - I've never captured a DS game, so you may want to contact a DS runner for specific advice/recommendations
  86.
  87. 3DS games
  88. --------
  89. Hardware:
  90. - 3DS modded to include capture device
  91. - Mini-USB cable? I think 3DS capture cards output straight to USB...
  92. Software:
  93. - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
  94. - Possibly drivers and/or software for the capture card
  95. - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
  96. Notes:
  97. - I've never captured a 3DS game, so you may want to contact a 3DS runner for specific advice/recommendations
