- Equipment needed to stream KH games
- ===================================
- This guide is for Windows systems. I don't know enough about streaming from OS X or Linux to provide recommendations, sorry.
- This guide will also always assume you want to play off your TV while capturing the feed. If you're willing to play off the capture
- feed on your computer, then you may be able to purchase less equipment (namely, splitters and cables).
- Terms:
- SD = Standard Definition (4:3)
- HD = High Definition (16:9)
- RCA/Composite = Red, White, Yellow cables/input for SD games
- Component = Green, Blue, Red, White, Red cables/input for HD games
- HDMI = High-Definition Multimedia Interface cables/input for HD games
- Splitter = Device that splits one input into two inputs
- HDCP = High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (a form of copyright protection on HDMI devices)
- PS2 games
- ---------
- Hardware:
- - PS2
- - PC
- - Any SD capture card (e.g. Dazzle, EZCap)
- - 3 RCA splitters (one for each color) unless your capture card has pass-through
- - Extra RCA cables
- Software:
- - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
- - Possibly drivers and/or software for your SD capture device
- - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
- Notes:
- - PS2s are also capable of outputting via Component, so if you have Component capture equipment, you may be able to use that
- PS3 games
- ---------
- Hardware:
- - PS3
- - PC
- - Either an SD (e.g. Dazzle, EZCap) or an HD (e.g. LGP, HDPVR, Elgato) capture card
- - If SD:
- - RCA PS3 cable (the one from a PS2 will work)
- - 3 RCA splitters (one for each color) unless your capture card has pass-through
- - Extra RCA cables
- - If HD:
- - Component PS3 cable or HDMI cable
- - If Component:
- - 5 splitters unless your capture card has pass-through with no delay (most HD ones do)
- - Possibly extra Component cables
- - If HDMI:
- - An HDMI splitter THAT STRIPS HDCP. Not all splitters bypass HDCP, so be sure to check product reviews before buying.
- - Extra HDMI cables
- Software:
- - OBS Studio (obsproject.com)
- - Possibly drivers and/or software for your capture device (highly likely for HD devices)
- - Timer (LiveSplit is recommended)
- Notes:
- - Be careful when selecting an HD capture device. You'll probably want to use Component so you don't have to worry about bypassing HDCP, so make sure your capture device has Component input. Some devices have Component input with HDMI passthrough, so you may not even need extra Component cables. Component can still output at 1080p, so you won't lose any quality. It's also important to research the capture delay for your device so that you are well-informed. I can personally vouch for the AverMedia Live Gamer Portable (LGP), but it does have a few quirks with OBS and an internal capture card may be preferential for some to reduce delay even further.
