  3. -------------------------------------------------------------------
  4.
  5. 'Makeup? Check. Hair? Check. Long gloves? Check. That little red dress that Dad hates? Check. Annoying lecture from a friend?' Miki let out an exasperated sigh 'Check."
  6.
  7. "-and make sure the pig knows that you can pay for yourself! We don't need another idiot thinking that his, quote: 'Pretty little piece of ass,' end quote, can't handle herself."
  8.
  9. Miki had heard just about enough. "Suzu."
  10.
  11. "Oh, and make sure he maintains eye contact. He can rape you without touching you, you know. Those lecherous-"
  12.
  13. A little firmer this time. "Suzu."
  14.
  15. "-not to mention they think they can just look upon our beautiful bodies. Make sure he knows your triggers and-"
  16.
  17. "Suuu-zuuuuuu."
  18.
  19. "-because, that's how it is. Like Gloria Steinem said 'A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicyc-'"
  20.
  21. "Snoozu! Shut up!"
  22.
  23. The girl with the sea-foam eyes reeled back as if struck and blinked owlishly at her tan friend. Her eyes traveled up and down Miki's figure before reestablishing eye contact and giving a slow nod.
  24.
  25. "You look good, sister. Like, real good. Better than what the guy deserves, I'm sure."
  26.
  27. Miki only rolled her eyes and flashed a smirk at Suzu.
  28.
  29. "Of course I look good, you slut. It's hard to look bad with legs like these. Trust me, I've tried. Now, I've got to get going. I'm supposed to meet Hisao at the gate in ten minutes. I'll see you when I get back! Try not to fall asleep on any noodles again!" Miki threw over her shoulder as she moved towards the door. To be fully honest, she hadn't been on a real date for a long time. There was that time with Akio when she first got to Yamaku, but lunch with that nerd didn't count. She was excited. She was pumped. She was...running into the door.
  30.
  31. 'Fuck! Oh, right. Opening a door requires that you grab the knob and turn. Which means using a hand. Which I don't fucking have anymore. Shit.'
  32.
  33. She made her way to the gates of Yamaku while grumbling and thinking of ways she could build a cyborg hand with a flamethrower and an anti-math ray and a cake dispenser and a- 'Is he wearing a sweatervest?'
  34.
  35. Hisao stood underneath the arch of the metal gates in a blue sweatervest and a handful of flowers.
  36.
  37. "Hey, loverboy! Are those for me? You shouldn't have," Miki called. Hisao started a bit and turned towards her, a nervous smile beginning to spread on his face. When he saw Miki, his eyes widened and whatever he was going to say caught in his throat. What came out instead was something between a hiccup and a cough. Miki decided this would be fun.
  38.
  39. "You like what you see?" she purred, delighted when a blush spread across his face. Quickly reaching up to scratch the back of his head, Hisao extended the flowers towards Miki.
  40.
  41. "I, uh, got you these. They're daisies. I mean, I think. I'm not really, uh, good with these things. Like, I'm just kinda flying blind here, you know? Is it hot out here? Because it's-"
  42.
  43. "Shut up, gaylord. I meant what I said, though. You shouldn't have. I can't exactly... hold them." She gave a general gesture with her stump and her handbag. The damn stump was already messing up her date.
  44.
  45. "Oh, s-sorry" stammered Hisao "I, uh, didn't think of that." Looking to save face, he quickly added "You look really great, though. I gotta hand it to you, you- oh man."
  46.
  47. "Just stop talking, Hisao. Let's just get this date on the road." Miki wasn't going to let a bad start ruin what could be a great evening. She'd never given up on a race when she tripped on the starting block. Should a date really be any different? Fuck no. This kid was a total nerd, but he was normal. He was just as weirded out by this place as Miki was. So normal was good. Normal was fantastic.
  48.
  49. "So, where're we going? If you're lucky I'll let you walk on my right and you can hold that hand." The look he gave her was enough to make her laugh straight from her well-toned belly. Being able to mess with him all night was a chance Miki couldn't resist. Yeah, normal would be just fine.
