- I am Togo Mimori
- A second-year middle schooler who loves her nation.
- And I will now walk you through an ordinary day of my life.
- 6 AM: Time to rise.
- Togo: Mmm... lovely weather again today...
- I gaze up at the piercing blue sky.
- Togo: We're able to greet another wonderful morning thanks to the Shinju-sama
- I bow to the southeast towards the Shinju-sama
- Silence wraps around the neighboring Yuki residence.
- Togo: (Good morning, Yuna-chan. I'll go wake you up later, okay?)
- I take a deep breath of the crisp morning air.
- 6:15 AM: Morning history time.
- ...What is morning history, you ask?
- It's a phrase I came up with to describe how I study history first thing in the morning, the same way some people have morning shampoo.
- I don't exactly do it every day, but it makes me feel both humbled and grateful for my nation.
- Togo: ...Ancient history and Showa history are so interesting... The Showa Era especially... uuuugh... brings tears to my eyes...
- The Heisei Era is a little too outrageous with its abrupt outbreak of the virus menace, so I don't like it.
- 7 AM:
- I help my mother prepare breakfast in the kitchen.
- Togo: The dried sardine miso soup came out delicious... I need to thank Karin-chan for the recipe.
- Breakfast and dinner at the Togo household is naturally Japanese food by principle again today.
- I pack the food for the hero club (botamochi) in a box.
- Togo: Okay, I'll be off.
- After two years of living with a wheelchair, I've gotten quite used to it.
- Yuki residence.
- I'm a regular here.
- Togo: Good morning. Pardon the intrusion.
- I've come to fulfill my most important of all duties.
- Yuna: Zzz... Zzz...
- Her sleeping face is cute as ever today.
- Togo: It's morning, Yuna-chan.
- Yuna: Mmah...! Ah! Good morning, Togo-san!
- So today's one of her easy to rise days.
- On days where she doesn't wake easily, I have to blow a bugle.
- Togo: Good morning, Yuna-chan.
- Yuna: ...hwaaaah...
- Yuna-chan looks around.
- Yuna: Aaauuu~ What day is today... ah, Tuesday, huh.
- Yuna: ...AWRIGHT!
- She runs off to the sink.
- Yuna-chan gathers up vitality quickly, but for just a moment when she gets up from bed, she's always a little out of it.
- ...
- I wait by the entrance and soon enough, out comes an energetic Yuna-chan.
- Yuna: Good morning to you once again, Togo-san.
- Yuna-chan always gets up close and personal with people.
- It surprised me at first, but now I'm quite comfortable with it.
- Togo: Good morning to you once again too, Yuna-chan.
- We ride a car to school.
- Sanshu middle school is located up on top of a hill, so I've got school approval to commute by car with my wheelchair and Yuna as my escort.
- Yuna: But man. When you first moved in, I thought I could be of help to you since you were having trouble knowing right from left.
- Yuna: But now you're always the one looking out after me.
- Yuna-chan says even though she always pushes my wheelchair for me.
- Togo: ...Ah, it's Karin-chan.
- Karin-chan's pedaling her bicycle beside the car.
- Karin: Morning, you two!
- She seems quite lively, but that seems kinda dangerous.
- Togo: Karin-chan, be sure to look ahead, okay?
- Karin: Hah. I'm a hero. I don't know the meaning of the word acciden... uwah, oh no!
- She nearly crashes into a telephone pole.
- The car approaches the hill road.
- Karin: I'm not gonna lose to some dumb old car, seyaahh!!
- Karin-chan's still hanging on.
- Yuna: Woah, Karin-chan you're so fast!
- But it was still not enough to prevent our distance from gradually growing.
- Just about everybody commutes to school by foot or by bicycle.
- Fu-sempai and Itsuki-chan commute by bicycle too.
- Togo: Yuna-chan, are you sleeping properly at night?
- Yuna: Like a log.
- She answers nonchalantly.
- Like she's not even trying to hold back anything.
- Togo: ...That's good. But you never know when we'll be called for duty, so...
- Yuna: You're right. It would be scary if it came while we were sleeping, huh. Man, I slept like a log without even thinking too deeply about it.
- Togo: I kind of expected you'd still be able to sleep well, Yuna-chan. But don't worry. I'll come wake you up even under those circumstances.
- Togo: Honestly, I couldn't sleep too much the first day it happened, but I can sleep safe and sound now that I can transform.
- Togo: You've got to get enough sleep to have enough energy for when the going gets tough, after all.
- Yuna-chan nods.
- We chat as we head to school.
- At the classroom--
- Karin: Whew-- Dashing uphill is such great training, huh. Time for supplements.
- Karin-chan suddenly pops a supplement.
- Togo: ...You won't get addicted, will you?
- Yuna: I think she'll be fine since she eats dried sardines too.
- Karin: ...By the way, Yuna, you've got a lot of doodles in your notebook, huh. What's this curry cat thing?
- Yuna: He's a cat with curry on his head. When you get hungry, he serves you the curry.
- Karin: So he's an original character, huh?
- Yuna: Why don't you make one up too? You can try thinking of something on the blackboard during lunch.
- Karin: N-no thanks. I fine.
- Yuna: I drew one up too... but the upperclassmen erased it due to censorship. ...wanna see?
- Karin: I-I'd rather not.
- Too bad... I'll ask her again sometime.
- Karin: Huh... got a message from Fu.
- Togo: It's rare for her to send a message at this hour... Wonder if something happened.
- Karin: Lessee. 'I ate too much and messed up my stomach. I'll be taking school off until I get better. Sorry...
- She ruined her stomach badly enough that she can't go to school?
- Karin: ...how low-girl-power-level of her.
- Togo: I wonder if she's alright?
- After school.
- Karin: Fu's still not better, huh.
- Karin: She's always such an eater, I've had my doubts that she might ruin her stomach one day... Geez. Itsuki, bring her these supplements for me.
- Itsuki: Thank you. I'm sorry for Onee-chan troubling you like this.
- Itsuki replies bashfully.
- Karin: So, is Fu still alive? She hasn't sent any more messages lately.
- Itsuki: I'll go call... that's what the plan was.
- Before long, we reach the Inubozaki residence phone.
- Fu: I'm so sorry guys. Truth is... I wanted to build up my body as a hero so bad, I kinda pushed it too far.
- Yuna: S-such effort! You've done nothing wrong, Fu-sempai!
- Yuna-chan bursts with concern.
- Fu: ...I'm sorry that was kind of a lie. I just got ahead of myself and ate too much.
- Yuna: Food does taste great this season. I understand.
- Togo: You're so nice, Yuna-chan.
- Yuna: I'm just glad it's nothing serious.
- Karin: You shouldn't spoil her so much, though.
- Fu: ...I should be feeling better by tomorrow. Until then, you're in charge... Karin.
- Karin: Hmph, well if you insist.
- Fu: No wait, I mean you, Togo.
- Karin: Hey, was that feint really necessary?
- ...She named me...!
- So that means... I gotta get pumped up!
- Itsuki: I think you'll get better with a day's rest.
- Togo: Understood. Please rest and relax.
- Sempai apologizes as she hangs up.
- Togo: I shall honorably fulfill the duty you have bestowed upon me, Sempai.
- Itsuki: Togo-sempai's getting pumped up!
- Karin: I'm kinda getting a bad feeling about this...
- Karin: So, substitute head. What's the hero club going to do today?
- Togo: I've got some updates to do on our homepage schedule, so could you guys formulate the plans for this weekend's river cleaning?
- Itsuki: Understood!
- Karin: How precise. I expected nothing less from you, Togo. Leave it to us.
- Yuna: AWRIGHT, I SHALL GO WRITE UP THE PLANS!
- Karin: Stop saying every single thing the same way as "I shall become a hero".
- Everyone hears out my requests.
- I think I can pull off this substitute club head thing properly.
- ...
- The hero club homepage has a column entitled "Today in Our Nation".
- It's where I spin out my thoughts.
- I just strike on the keys and words gush forth.
- Togo: Our morals-- the consideration for others, the will to protect our nation, and the justice that detests evil, are something that we have without the need to learn.
- Togo: As students, it is of course of great importance that we study for the obtainment of knowledge, but I believe it is equally important in life not to lose sight of our inherently noble nature.
- Togo: And that nature is of course the desire to serve our great nation! ...To be continued in the next issue.
- Taaaaaaahn! (←Keyboard sound)
- Togo: ...It's done. I've written a pretty good article.
- Togo: ...No, wait. Maybe it's not passionate enough...
- I always get Fu-sempai to proofread, but today I'm the substitute club head.
- Togo: I'll spell out all my thoughts for all the responsibilities bestowed upon me.
- I clack away at the keyboard.
- I've got a feeling this'll come out even more masterfully than usual.
- Itsuki: We've finished writing up the plans too.
- Togo: Good work. Onto the next task, then.
- Itsuki: Actually, the hero club has gotten several consultation requests.
- Itsuki-chan hands me a printout.
- It's a compilation of all the email requests.
- Karin: Itsuki's fortunetelling's often on the mark, so those sorts of requests have increased, huh.
- Indeed, there's a good number of them.
- Yuna: Nothing wrong with that. Settling everyone's worries is just another aspect of the hero club!
- Togo: Yuna-chan's exactly right.
- We decide to send replies to each of the requests one by one.
- Itsuki: First request. 'I'm looking for some western music.'
- I see... western music...
- True, western music in this new century isn't that bad, but...
- A Japanese song would be better here, wouldn't it?
- Togo: Let's recommend them a Japanese song instead.
- Karin: No, we should go with another idea there.
- Shot down immediately.
- Togo: Oh... you think so?
- I'm the club head, and yet my opinion didn't match anyone else's.
- I better be more careful next time.
- Itsuki: N-next request. 'I like someone, but I don't have the courage to confess to them'
- Karin: Oh, this is your turn to shine, Itsuki.
- Don't have the courage? As a hero, that makes me want to give them a big reassuring push from behind.
- Togo: But if you like someone, you ought to tell them how you feel.
- Togo: This is where you need to attack them with your feelings head-on.
- I salute you.
- Karin: Hmm... a big push from behind, huh.
- Itsuki: M-maybe we should hear their story out first.
- Togo: Hmm.
- Another difference in opinion.
- I need to be careful...
- Itsuki: Aauuu, it's terrible, Togo-sempai! A teacher calling from the staff room's saying the column on the homepage is too extreme...
- Togo: ...no way
- Even more problems!
- It takes quite some time to bring the situation under control.
- Togo: I'm sorry for causing so much trouble today.
- *bow*
- Yuna: No problem at all! I mean, right?
- Itsuki: None of us could've handled the situation that swiftly.
- Karin: Well, it is part of my duty to back you guys up, so don't let it bother you.
- Togo: ...Thank you.
- Everyone's nice to me.
- Togo: Being club head is such a difficult job, huh... I'm not yet up to the task...
- I feel insufficient in my competency.
- Togo: Fu-sempai really is amazing.
- I've gained more respect for our head and upperclassman.
- Late at night.
- Even after I've gotten back, I occasionally get shot a message or two.
- I don't feel like I'm alone at all.
- After all, I've gotten so many messages even right before bedtime.
- "Good night, everybody~ - YUNA"
- "Good work - KARIN"
- "Itsuki's already asleep. Good night - Fu"
- Togo: Good night, everybody.
- --See you tomorrow.
