TWEETSTORM TO SUPPORT STRIKING PRISONERS SEPTEMBER 9, 2016

On Sept 9, 2016 Prisoners from all over the US and even the World will begin striking.  Demands vary from unit to unit but most include basic rights such as an end to forced labor, more humane living conditions, end to unaffordable copays for medical treatment, various visitation rights, and reforms to the criminal justice system.

Prisoners are Slaves!  The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution bans “involuntary servitude” in addition to slavery, “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted,”.  Prisons and Big Business have been exploiting this loophole through a process called "Insourcing".  Prisoners work appx 8 hours a day, with no Union representation for anywhere from $0.23 to $1.15 an hour.  Comparatively, Big Business makes a profit off goods made by Prisoners, and to add insult to injury, they also receive tax breaks for using prison labor! Examples of Corporations that use Prisoner labor are:

McDonald's- Prisoners sew the uniforms for employees and make other misc items
Victoria's Secret- Female inmates in South Carolina sew undergarments and clothes
BP- After the oil spill BP hired Prisoners to clean up the beaches instead of the out of work fisherman and others they had put out of work

The date of Sept 9 was chosen bc it is the 45th anniversary of the Attica Prison Riot.  The Prisoners that are going to be participating on the strike will be subject to retaliation through various means by the Prison Industrial Complex.  They will need support in the Aftermath of this Strike.  Please look for opportunities to support as Sept 9th draws near.
