  1. >"Am I attractive Anon?"
  2. >You almost choke on your sandwich
  3. >You spit out your food into a napkin before composing yourself
  4. "Uh, what do you mean?"
  5. >Rainbow Dash looks at you as though looking at an idiot
  6. >"Just that. Am I attractive?"
  7. >You gulp
  8. "Well, gee, I don't know" you say, rubbing the back of your neck "You ponies all look pretty similar to me"
  9. >Dash leans back onto the couch and huffs in frustration
  10. >"Oh forget it" she groans "I knew I shouldn't have asked you"
  11. >The two of you sit in awkward silence for a moment before you decide to do a little digging
  12. "So, uh, why do you ask?" you inquire, scooting a little closer to her
  13. >She lazily lolls her head in your direction
  14. >"You really wanna know? Even if it might sound sappy?"
  15. >You nod wordlessly
  16. >"Okay" she sighs, blowing at a her mane
  17. >"It all started yesterday when Fluttershy and I were at the market collecting food for her animals"
  18. "Right"
  19. >"Anyway every stall we go to some stallion's hitting on her, and she just takes it in her stride, like she doesn't even notice it!"
  20. "Well what do you mean 'hitting on her?'
  21. >She frowns. "You know, flirting. They're all saying she looks great and what she's doing later and she just laughs it off like nothing"
  22. >Her voice rises in pitch and her cheeks darken somewhat
  23. >"So I ask her how she's doing that and she says 'Doing what?'"
  24. "Maybe the stallions were just polite?" you offer
  25. >"That's what I thought too, so I offer to buy a few of the supplies for her and every single stallion talks to me like I'm a colt! Asking me about the weather and hoofball and stuff"
  26. >Her mouth scrunches up for a moment before her hoof shoots out and strikes a nearby cushion
  27. >"GAH" she screams in frustration before sinking down
  28. >"I just. I just." she sighs "I mean I never thought of myself as pretty. I mean I never liked girly stuff when i was growing up and I still don't. But... I want to want to do girly stuff you know?"
  29. >"It's just so...GRRRR!" she growls, throwing her hoofs up into the air
  30.
  31. >"And you know what the worst part is?" she asks "I don't even now HOW to be girly! It seems to come so easily to all of my friends. Heck, even Applejack can be girly and she's probably the toughest of my friends! Well, after me of course"
  32. >She blinks in realization before flailing her hoofs in frustration
  33. >"You see? This is what I mean! It just comes so naturally to me! Celestia, I must be. I must be..."
  34. >Her voice wavers and you look away in embarrassment
  35. >"Broken" comes her cracked, wavering voice
  36. >You hear muffled sobs and you know she's trying hard not to cry
  37. >You sneak a peek at her and see that she's shifted onto her side, facing away from you
  38. "You're not broken Dash" you soothe, placing a hand on her side
  39. >"Then why am I like this? she sobs, still turned away from you. "Why is it so easy for everypony else? Why can't I be normal?"
  40. "I... don't know" you admit "But, to be honest, I kinda prefer you this way"
  41. >You feel her tense up and at last she turns and turns her head towards you, if only slightly
  42. >"What do you mean?" she demands, wiping her eyes
  43. "Well. I mean sure you're not as feminine as other mares but... I don't really like other mares."
  44. "In fact" you continue "You're the only mare I spend a lot of time with and I've always seen you as a girl anyway. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is..."
  45. >"Yes?"
  46. "That. Geez, I dunno, I don't really see you as girly or masculine I suppose. You're just... Rainbow Dash to me"
  47. >Rainbow sits up and, folding her forelegs over her belly, stares forward with a curious expression on her face, her gaze deliberately averted from you
  48. >"I wasn't crying" she grumbles after a few moments
  49. "Yeah I know" you lie
  50. >She shifts uncomfortably before pulling herself up
  51. >"I've... gotta go" she grins awkwardly, hopping off you couch and trotting away with a quick wave
  52. "Y-Yeah. See ya" you half-heartedly mumble
  53. "Damn, that could have gone a lot better" you think
  54. >You hope she didn't take what you said the wrong way
  55.
  56. >A few days later you're enjoying a relaxing lunch with Rarity and Fluttershy
  57. >The three of you discuss a variety of topics before you haphazardly mention Rainbow's behavior from a few days ago
  58. >Not to gossip, mind you, but simply because you hadn't seen her in those few days
  59. >You were worried about her
  60. >The concerned looks that Rarity and Fluttershy exchange do little to assuage your fears
  61. >"Oh dear. And this was on Thursday yes?" asks Rarity
  62. "Yes" you reply
  63. >"Oh my. Oh this isn't good at all" she mutters
  64. >"Hmm? Oh! Allow me to explain" she says, noticing your's and Fluttershy's concerned expressions
  65. >"It was Thursday evening when Rainbow Dash came into my salon asking if she could try on some sample dresses"
  66. >"Oh I was just as surprised as you two are" she adds, noting your expression of disbelief "And so may have been slightly... questioning"
  67. >"Oh no" gasps Fluttershy "You weren't rude to her were you?"
  68. >"No, no of course not!" cries Rarity "I just couldn't believe that Rainbow Dash of all ponies wanted to try on some of my dresses"
  69. >So naturally I allowed her in and fitted her into some of my Spring Collection pieces. Oh the poor dear looked so uncomfortable. Her cheeks were as red as that streak in her mane all evening"
  70. "So what happened then? Did she say anything?"
  71. >Rarity raises a hoof to her chin in deep thought
  72. >"Hmm. I seem to recall her claiming it was for some Wonderbolts Ball. I doubted it at the time but didn't question the poor girl."
  73. >"I did, however, notice out of the corner of my eye that she was staring at me all evening."
  74. >"Staring? What do you mean?" asks Fluttershy
  75. >"Well, not 'AT' me mind you, but rather, at my posture, my gait. I thought it terribly strange at the time but now, given what you've told us Anonymous, I wonder if she was trying to... well... imitate me"
  76. >The three of you lean back in quiet contemplation
  77. >This new development was a concerning one
  78.
  79. >You're walking home from the marketplace, groceries in hand when you hear a distant call
  80. >"Anon"
  81. >You stop and turn around but no one's there
  82. >You hear it again, louder this time
  83. >"Anon!"
  84. >You turn back around and find again that you can't place the voice to a pony
  85. >"Up here dummy!"
  86. >You look up and see Rainbow Dash grinning down at you
  87. >"Ha! That one gets you every time" she laughs, punching your arm jokingly
  88. "Ha ha, very funny" you wryly note
  89. >In truth you knew it was her
  90. >After all it was hard to fall for the same trick for the dozenth time
  91. >Especially when you'd fallen for it the previous eleven times...
  92. "So where have you been the past few days Dash?" you ask as she glides alongside you "I missed you"
  93. >"Oh, you know" she blusters "J-Just being awesome and doing my own th-"
  94. >She cuts herself off and sighs
  95. >"Wait on a minute Anon. I have to show you something"
  96. >"And you're not allowed to laugh either got it!?" she growls, pressing a hoof to your chest
  97. "Okay, okay"
  98. >She flies upwards and hides in a nearby cloud for a few moments
  99. >You hear grunting and muffled sounds of struggle before she dashes back down to you
  100. >"S-So how do I look she asks" giving you full view of the messy ponytail her mane was now styled in
  101. >You stand in silence for a moment
  102. >Sure it was amateur work but it genuinely suited her
  103. "You look... nice" you finally decide
  104. >Her eyes widen in joy and she begins to speak a mile a minute
  105. >"R-Really because I spent all day yesterday practicing and it was really hard and I almost gave up but I didn't because I really wanted it to look right and-"
  106. "Dash please" you chuckle, clamping your hand over her muzzle "You'll give yourself a heart attack"
  107. >The pegasus nods meekly and you release your grip as she descends to the ground and trots beside you
  108. >"So it looks good right?"
  109. "Yes Dash"
  110. >"And I look pretty right?"
  111. >Yes Dash
  112. >"C-Can you say I look pretty?"
  113. "You look pretty Dash"
  114. >She sighs in relief
  115. >"Thank you" she squeaks
  116.
  117. >"What? No way I'm showing up to lunch tomorrow like this!"
  118. >You're taken aback
  119. >All you did was suggest that Rainbow Dash show off her new look in front of her friends
  120. >She did like showing off after all
  121. "But why not?" you ask
  122. >"Because" she grunts, gnawing at her ponytail in her zeal to undo it "They'll laugh at me!"
  123. "Laugh at you? Why on earth would they do that?"
  124. >"Because anypony would! I'm Rainbow Dash. I'm the toughest pony in Equestria. I have a reputation to maintain!"
  125. >She finally manages to undo her ponytail and runs her hooves through her mane, reasserting its usual messy style
  126. >"Any pony would laugh if they saw me of all ponies looking like a *blech* girl"
  127. "What? Just a few days ago you said you WANTED to be more like a girl!"
  128. >"No I said I wanted to want to be more like one! Not that I wanted to actually be one!"
  129. "But you are a girl!"
  130. >"Yeah but I'm not a girl that acts like a girl!. I'm a- wait" she scratches her head in confusion
  131. >"I'm a girl" she drawls, tilting her head "That... acts like a... boy? Who- grrrr!"
  132. >"This is too hard! Why am I feeling this way now?" she screams, darting underneath your couch
  133. "Dash come out from there. Let's talk about this"
  134. >"No!"
  135. "Dash, they won't laugh at you, I promise. Hell, they'll probably think you'll look as pretty as I did"
  136. >"I'm not coming out and I'm not going!" comes the muffled reply
  137. >You splay out on the floor
  138. >You'd thought she was making great progress
  139. >Hell, you were really looking forward to showing her friends a different side of her
  140. >You knew they wouldn't have laughed at her. Rarity and Fluttershy seemed really concerned about her and you knew her other friends would be too if they new
  141. >Despite your efforts to bring out another side of Rainbow her tough side just has too much influence over her
  142. >Actually...
  143. >Perhaps you could use this to your advantage
  144. "Hey Dash" you tease
  145. >No reply
  146. "Are you saying you're too much of a chicken?"
  147. >Two angry magenta eyes appear from underneath the couch
  148.
  149. >"I'm tellin' ya Anon, she ain't coming" insists a sympathetic Applejack sitting across from you
  150. "She's coming" you maintain
  151. >Fluttershy and Rarity had informed the girls of Rainbow's sensitivity and they were all to be on their best behavior
  152. >Thus the girls did their best to maintain a friendly atmosphere
  153. >Perhaps too well as none of you noticed Rainbow enter into the crowded restaurant until she took her place between you and an animated Pinkie Pie
  154. >"Oh well hiya Dashie!" she beams, pulling her friend into a tight hug "I loooooove the new manestyle"
  155. >"Oh, um, uh, thanks?" replies a nervous Rainbow Dash
  156. >Well this was different.
  157. >She'd received dozens of compliments before but they were usually about her flying and in awed disbelief, not about her appearance and in casual adoration
  158. >It felt... nice
  159. >A crescendo of voices rise in agreement to Pinkie Pie's compliment and Rainbow blushes deeply
  160. >"Aww, c'mon. It's nothing, really. Just some dumb girly thing"
  161. >"Well there's nothing wrong with that dear" says Rarity "It makes one feel confident"
  162. >"And its awful practical" chimes in Applejack
  163. >"And areodynamic." says Twilight "In fact, it might help you fly even faster"
  164. >"Guys stooop" she whines
  165. >"Who woulda thought. Rainbow Dash of all ponies actin' shy? Well now I've seen it all" hoots Applejack
  166. >The table erupts into laughter Rainbow joins in good naturedly
  167.
  168. >"Dash, dear, I think that gentlecolt over there is staring at you" whispers Rarity from across the table as the rest of the girls chat among themselves
  169. >Rainbow turns and locks eyes with the stallion
  170. >The stallion raises a hoof at her and waves lazily before gesturing for her to join him
  171. >Rainbow turns back to Rarity in confusion and Rarity nods eagerly
  172. >Could this finally be her long awaited chance to play matchmaker for Rainbow Dash?
  173. >Rainbow snorts and sticks her tongue out at him before laughing with Anon who had seen the whole thing
  174. >Rarity groans
  175. >It seems Rainbow had a ways to go yet
  176.
  177. >You stand outside your bathroom, your bladder full to bursting
  178. "Dash you've been in the bathroom for hours! What's taking so long?" you yell, banging on the door
  179. >"Uh, I'll just be a minute!" comes the reply
  180. >"You've said that three times now!"
  181. >"H-Hey back off! It's private stuff! I'm naked"
  182. "Dash, I swear I'll break this door down"
  183. "Besides you're naked all the time" you grunt, slamming into the door with even more force
  184. >"Anon wait!"
  185. >With a final roar you slam your entire body into the door and the heavy oak gives way before you
  186. >You're met with the rather sobering sight of Rainbow clad in pink thigh high socks, a hair straightener cradled in her grip
  187. >Her lip trembles and you notice they're a deep shade of red
  188. >Was, was she wearing lipstick?
  189. >"Um"
  190. "Uh"
  191. >She suddenly remembers the hair straightener and hides it behind her back
  192. >She shifts uncomfortably and stares at a particularly interesting spot on the floor
  193. >"So uh..."
  194. "Yeah"
  195. >"C-Could you just?"
  196. "So I'll just, uh, do my business in the backyard I guess"
  197. >"Y-You too"
  198.
  199. >You hear a knock on the door
  200. >Opening it, you see Rainbow Dash standing before you
  201. >Her coat is matted and filthy and her mane looks like it's been run through a blender
  202. >Her chest rises and falls as she pants deeply
  203. >"Heeey Anon." she says, smiling bashfully "Um, mind if I use your shower? I just finished training"
  204. >You cross your arms and lean on your doorframe
  205. "I don't know. Are you going to take hours again this time?"
  206. >Her face scrunches and she looks away in embarrassment
  207. >"No Anon, really. I just need to use your shower. I'm all sweaty and gross and my place is ages away"
  208. "Oh c'mon" you press "You used to not mind feeling dirty. What happened?"
  209. >She frowns
  210. >"You know what happened Anon" she says softly
  211. >You open your mouth in a retort before closing it
  212. >She was right
  213. >It would be cruel to deny her this
  214. >With a flourish of your arm you shift to the side and welcome her inside
  215. >As she passes you her tail flicks out and whips your behind
  216. >You jump in surprise
  217. "Jesus Christ" you whine, rubbing your ass "What was that for"
  218. >"That was for making me wait!" she smirks before disappearing inside your now door-less bathroom
  219. >"And don't let me catch you trying to sneak a peak now that the door's not here, perv" she calls before you hear the sound of running water
  220. >You wait for a few seconds before reaching into your breast pocket
  221. >You pull out a small box and open it
  222. >Inside lie two brilliantly red ruby earrings
  223. >Sure they took a huge bite out of your savings, but it would be worth it to see the look on her face
  224. >You hear Dash turn the shower off and you fumble for a moment before closing the box and shoving it back into your pocket
  225. >Not yet
  226. >Not yet
  227.
  228. "Hey Dash"
  229. >"What?"
  230. "Which shampoo did you use?
  231. >You hear muted shuffling from the bathroom
  232. >"Uhh, the bad one. Why?"
  233. "Use the good one"
  234. >"Why?"
  235. "Just do it!"
  236. >Rainbow grumbles in frustration before you hear the shower head flowing again
  237. >You quickly sneak over to your bedroom and, opening your wardrobe, pull out a beautiful onyx colored evening gown
  238. >This cost even more than the earrings but it was just as necessary
  239. >"After a few minutes you hear the shower turn off again
  240. >"Hey Anon where'd you go?"
  241. >You hear her hoofsteps coming down the hallway
  242. >"Anon are you he- oh my gosh!"
  243. "Surprise Dashie" you grin, holding the gown out for her to see
  244. >Her eyes widen in wonder as she extends a hoof and gently carreses the silky fabric
  245. >"It's so... cool" she whispers
  246. "You want to try it on?"
  247. >She looks at you like a child being offered a piece of candy
  248. >"Can I really?"
  249. "Sure, let me help you"
  250. >She turns around and, sitting upright on her hind legs, patiently allows you to lower the gown over her head and forelegs
  251. >You wrap an arm around her chest and hold her steady as you set her down on all four hooves before sliding it the rest of the way down her body, leaving room for her wings to extend out and along her sides
  252. >You lean over her awkwardly as you work the zipper up her lithe form
  253. >She shudders as you let loose a gust of warm breath past her ear
  254. >At last you pull the zipper up and pull back to observe your work
  255. >The gown fit her perfectly; tight around the midsection and flowing gracefully down her flanks, accentuating her natural curves whilst still leaving much to the imagination
  256. >In fact, you doubted any other pony could pull it off as well as her
  257. >She turns to and fro in front of your mirror, viewing herself from different angles
  258. >"Wow" she coos "Nopony could ever treat me like a colt in this"
  259. "Nah, you you don't like a girl" you say
  260. >She turns to you, hurt
  261. "You look like a lady." you demure "A sexy lady"
  262. >She beams in relief and confidence
  263. >"I do, don't I?"
  264.
  265. >"So, um, not to sound ungrateful or anything" she asks 'But, what are you getting me all dressed up for?"
  266. "Because" you drawl, whipping two tickets out of your sleeve "I managed to snag a pair of these babies, that's why"
  267. >"You got us tickets to see the HMS Whinnyfore?" she gasps in disbelief, clutching the tickets in her hooves "B-But why?"
  268. "Gee I don't know, maybe because you haven't stopped talking about that' Hinny of the Hills' musical you saw with the girls for months now. I figured maybe you'd like to see another one"
  269. >Her hindlegs give out beneath her and she stares blankly at the tickets
  270. >"Anon I-I don't know what to, to say" she stutters
  271. "You don't have to say anything" you soothe, reaching into your front pocket
  272. "At least not until you put these on"
  273. >You present the open box to her
  274. >Her lower lip trembles as she sees the brilliant ruby earrings tucked inside
  275. >"For, me?"
  276. "No, not for you, it's a formal event and I don't want to get kicked out" you deadpan
  277. >"Anon!"
  278. >You laugh
  279. >She slowly outstretches a trembling hoof towards the earrings, as though they might break at the slightest touch
  280. >Just before her hoof comes into contact with them you slam the box shut
  281. >The suddenness of the action breaks the tension of the moment and she erupts into shrill laughter
  282. >"Anon, you jerk!"
  283. >You smirk and motion for her to put them on
  284. >She does so before turning back to the mirror and then to you
  285. >Her eyes grow moist
  286. >"Anon... thank you" she cries before wrapping her forelegs around your waist
  287. "Aw don't get all teary on me now"
  288. >"Right, right" she sniffs, wiping her eyes
  289. "Well" you say lamely "Let's be off shall we?" and you stride over to the front door
  290. >"Wait!" she calls "Don't I need to do my mane?"
  291. >You stand at the doorway
  292. "You don't need to do anything Dash. You look stunning. Now come on"
  293. >And with that you disappear outside along the path
  294. >Had you turned around you would have seen her emit a raspy squeak of excitement and chase after you
  295.
  296. >You are Rainbow Dash
  297. >You and Anon sit alongside each other on the train to Canterlot in comfortable silence
  298. >You decide to make use of this time and reflect on the changes you'd gone through the past few months since you first asked Anon if you were attractive
  299. >It's funny really, you can hardly remember most of it
  300. >It's as if there were large skips or gaps in your memory
  301. >Perhaps that was a testament to the life-changing nature of it all
  302. >After all, one so often notices change only when it's passed
  303. >Certainly you remembered Anon's reaction when you first asked him if you were attractive
  304. >You remembered your joy in showing him your first successful ponytail
  305. >You also remembered rejecting the advances of that one stallion
  306. >You were still bitter about that
  307. >If the stallions didn't want you before, why should they have you now?
  308. >You furrow your brow and try to remember the more distant memories:
  309. >You remember Anon inviting you to his place more and more often
  310. >You remember him purchasing hair care products for you because you were too frightened to do so yourself
  311. >You remember him letting you crash at his place after you'd pushed yourself too hard in training and couldn't lift yourself off the ground
  312. >You also remember the first time you felt 'the feeling', as you called it
  313. >The same feeling that you'd been feeling all night now
  314. >The same feeling that appeared every time you were around Anon
  315. >The first time you'd felt it was same night you were crashing at Anon's house
  316. >You were so exhausted that you'd fallen asleep on Anon's couch almost immediately
  317. >You'd awoken later and noticed that something was different
  318. >You were clad in a soft woolen blanket. Anon must have placed it over you as you'd slept
  319. >The next morning you'd hastily tried to thank Anon for his kindness but he would have none of it
  320. >He simply took it as a given
  321. >And so, as you ate breakfast with him that brilliant blue morning, that was when you felt it for the first time
  322. >And you'd liked it
  323.
  324. >You look up at Anon
  325. >Certainly the two of you had grown closer in the past few months, very close
  326. >Heck, you'd never let any stallion, let alone Anon, get you into a dress only a few months ago
  327. >And yet, he had, and so easily too!
  328. >Almost every time you two were together now either you leaned on him or vice versa
  329. >Such was your comfort around each other
  330. >You were almost embarrassed by it
  331. >Why, you felt almost deceived
  332. >What made him different?
  333. >How was he able to ingratiate himself with you so easily?
  334. >You had no idea
  335. >Yet, when you saw him now, you couldn't help but feel your indignation disappear
  336. >The feeling inside your stomach flares up again and you lean your head on his side
  337. "Hey Anon, whatcha' thinking?"
  338.
  339. >You are Anon
  340. >"CRAWLING IN MY SKIN. THESE WOUNDS THEY WILL NOT HEAL" you sing inside your head
  341. "Uh, nothing"
  342.
  343. >"For he himself has said it. And it's clearly to his credit. That he is an Equestrian. He remains an Eeeeeequestrian!"
  344. >The rest of the instrumentals play before the curtains close and the crowd cheers
  345. >You stand up and clap enthusiastically whilst Rainbow goes wild
  346. >She shoots up out of her seat and whistles wildly as the curtains lift again and the various actors stroll across the stage and bow
  347. >The actor who played a wonderful Dick Donkeye, a donkey by the name of Cranky Doodle, strolls across the stage; a perpetual frown carved into his face, and the crowd's cheers increase in volume
  348. >He'd proven very popular with them. Ponies had a real soft spot for underdogs it seemed
  349. >From your seat in the upper alcoves you spy another donkey, his wife you assume, rise and blow him a kiss
  350. >He notices this and his frown turns to a small smile of genuine happiness as the rest of the cast line up alongside him and together they all give a final bow
  351. >You feel your heartstrings pull a little at the sight of this
  352. >Your gaze is drawn to the spunky mare cheering alongside you
  353. >It's true, the two of you had grown closer in recent times
  354. >Much closer
  355. >What had begun as a friendship was now something more
  356. >Was it love? You couldn't quite be sure
  357. >But you did feel something towards her. You'd be lying if you said otherwise
  358. >Yet... you couldn't help but feel hesitant to take the leap
  359. >Was it only due to her recent transformation that you felt something for her?
  360. >Or was it that said transformation had awoken feelings which always existed? Feelings which triggered this transformation in the first place?
  361. >You mull this over in your mind as you and Dash shuffle out into the foyer
  362. >The last thing you wanted to do was take advantage of her after all
  363.
  364. >You are Rainbow Dash
  365. >"That. Was so. Awesome!" you declare as Anon laughs at your enthusiasm and agrees with you
  366. >"Hey, is there a bathroom around here?" he asks
  367. "I think I saw some down there" you say, pointing to the other end of the hall
  368. >Anon shuffles off, somewhat awkwardly, and leaves you on your own
  369. >You sit down on a nearby bench as the ponies around you talk with one another about the show
  370. >"Most amusing"
  371. >"Simply uncouth!"
  372. >"I didn't know they were allowed to say the 'D' word"
  373. >You drown out the cacophony of voices until one recognizable voice cuts through
  374. >"Hey, Rainbow Dash, fancy seeing you here"
  375. >You open your eyes
  376. "S-Spitfire!"
  377. >The captain of the Wonderbolts stands before you in a brilliantly refined lavender dress
  378. >You didn't know such a normally tough mare could look so... feminine
  379. >"The one and only." she smirks "What are you doing here? Didn't think I'd see Rainbow Dash of all ponies in a dress AND at a musical"
  380. "I got lost!" you panic "
  381. >"Relax Dash" she laughs "I'm just teasing you"
  382. >"I saw you come in with that Anon guy. You two make a cute couple" she teases, nudging your ribs with her hoof
  383. "Ah ha, yeah" you mumble, rubbing the back of your head
  384. >"Hey I didn't mean anything about the dress either. I think you look great in it"
  385. "Wh-really?" you asks in disbelief
  386. >"Sure" she insists, waving a hoof at you "Who says we athletes can't look good on and OFF the field?"
  387. "Yeah" you say, your confidence growing "Who says we can't?"
  388. >"That's the spirit" she grins, patting you on the back
  389. >"Now, if you'll excuse me" she says, hopping up off the bench "I need to find my mom before she tries picking up some young noble. It's happened before you know!"
  390. >And with that she disappears into the crowd
  391. >A few seconds later Anon collapses onto the bench next to you
  392. >"Pony bathrooms" he gasps "Never again"
  393. >He notices your perplexed expression
  394. >"Dash? You okay?"
  395. >You smile
  396. "Yeah Anon. I'm okay"
  397. >The last niggling piece of doubt in your mind
  398. >It was gone
  399.
  400. >You are Anon
  401. >"Aww geez my hooves are killing me" whines Rainbow Dash as the two of you sprawl out on the couch across from one another
  402. >Finally you were home
  403. >You pull your jacket over the top of your head and throw it haphazardly over the floor
  404. >Sure maybe you should have been more careful with it but you had several other ones in your wardrobe
  405. >How else could you keep wearing the same clothes day in day out after all?
  406. >Beside you, Rainbow cranes her head from side to side as she removes her earrings and gently lays them on a nearby table
  407. >Tucking her wings into her evening gown, she tries pulling the dress up and over her body, with limited success
  408. >She struggles in vain for a few moments before she gives up, thoroughly tangled in the ebony labyrinth
  409. >"Uh, little help?" she hints
  410. >You shuffle over and help the poor mare out of her dress before snatching up your jacket and carrying both it and the dress to your wardrobe
  411. >"Hey Rainbow are you staying the night?" you call from the bedroom
  412. >No answer
  413. >"Rainbow?" you ask again
  414. >You walk back into the living room
  415. >Rainbow sits despondent on your couch, her eyes downcast
  416. >She slowly raises her head upon hearing your approach and you see tears in her eyes
  417. >"Anon" she says softly "Can we talk for a second? I need to get something off my chest"
  418. >You frown in concern and sit alongside her
  419. >"I don't really know how to say this" she admits
  420. "You could try talking"
  421. >"Anon!"
  422. >You choke back a cackle and apologize
  423. >"Like I was saying; these past few months have been really something." she begins
  424. >"I mean, I always knew I was awesome before, but... I never really felt..."
  425. >"Attractive" she mumbles
  426. >"Not until recently" she continues
  427. >"Not until... you"
  428.
  429. >"And I-I'm not feeling sorry for myself" she quickly adds "I just mean that I was okay with that. I could live with that. I figured I could still be awesome anyway. And I was too"
  430. “You were” you admit
  431. >She sighs
  432. >"But then after that day with Fluttershy I started thinking; what good is it being so awesome if you can't share it with anyone? If no one else thinks that you're awesome? Sure I had my reputation, but nopony thought of me in the same way they did other mares"
  433. >”And then I started to get worried. Do you know what happens to a muscle when you don’t use it Anon?
  434. >"It gets weak”
  435. >”I saw how easily Fluttershy and all my other friends were able to do girly stuff and I got scared. I got really scared. I thought I could never learn to do what they seemed to do so easily. What every other mare seems to do so easily”
  436. >”But then, you helped me through all that. And at first I was scared that I was gonna lose what made me awesome, that I was gonna’ get all girly and weak. But then I realised that you were just… helping me develop a weak muscle. You brought out a side of me that I’d never known before. And it didn’t make me weaker. It made me even stronger”
  437. >”And that” she says “That really means a lot to me.” She finishes “And I just wanted to, uh, thank you.
  438. >”So, uh, thank you” she gulps
  439.
  440. >The two of you sit in a beautiful silence for a moment
  441. >You, touched by the sincerity of her words and her, mulling over whether to take her confession one step further
  442. >She decided to do so
  443. >”There’s… one more thing” she says, moving closer to you
  444. >”I feel like we’ve gotten a lot closer” she says, staring at the floor
  445. >”I mean, sure we were always friends, but you’ve helped me to see a side of myself I never knew I had.”
  446. >”And, well, I think”
  447. >She raises her head and you see tears streaming from her eyes
  448. >”I think maybe I…, oh man this is hard" she groans, turning away for a moment before forcing herself to turn back to you "Feel that you’re... a bit more than a friend. Um, well, to me at least”
  449. >You sit, stunned
  450. >She groans and throws her head back
  451. >”And I HATE feeling like this. Feeling like I need you. Feeling dependent on you. I’ve found myself thinking about you when you’re not around and I find almost any excuse to bum around here”
  452. >”Anon” she sighs “I don’t wanna make you feel bad or ruin our great friendship. I just wanna know if you feel the same way”
  453. >...
  454. “Why me?” you ask
  455. >”Oh I don’t know!” she sighs “I guess you said it best yourself. You’ve never seen me as a mare or a stallion, like every other pony. You’ve always just seen me as Rainbow Dash.”
  456. >”B-But. Now, if it’s not too much, can you maybe see me as something more?”
  457. >”Like I see you?” she begs
  458. >…
  459. “I-I’m sorry” you admit “But you're just Rainbow Dash to me”
  460. >Her mind goes blank for a moment before she clutches at her chest in pain
  461. >”J-Just Rainbow Dash huh?” she murmurs
  462. >Her breathing turns shallow and her vision turns blurry
  463. "Yeah"
  464. “Fortunately for you, I’ve always felt this way about her. Let me know what she says”
  465. >Before she can react your hand snaps out and angles her chin to yours
  466. >And with that, you plant your lips upon hers and, for a brief moment, the two of you become one
  467.
  468. >Her mind swims; adrift in pleasure
  469. >She couldn’t believe it. Was this really happening?
  470. >After what seems an eternity the two of you finally pull apart
  471. >”Wow” she declares breathlessly
  472. >”Yeah” you agree
  473. >You looks at you hopefully “Does, does this mean that you… like me too?”
  474. >You think back on the time in which you’d known Dash
  475. >Actually you know what?
  476. >You already knew the answer
  477. >You didn’t need that flashback crap
  478. “Yeah, I do”
  479. >She says nothing and instead crawls into your arms, and then, embrace
  480. >It was an embrace not of affection, but of complete acceptance of one another
  481. >Once more you angle your face to hers and you kiss her again
  482. >More slowly this time, passionately
  483. >Her hind leg kicks softly as she tries to press her form more tightly against your own
  484. >When the two of you finally separate again, she smiles at you and places her head against your chest, utterly content
  485.
  486. “Anyway, it’s getting late” you groan, stretching vigorously and gently shaking her loose “What do you say we go to my bed? You’re not sleeping on my couch anymore after all”
  487. >”Hmph, fine. But don’t get any funny ideas perv” she smiles slyly
  488. >”First one to the bed wins!” she declares and speeds off towards the bedroom
  489. “Hey!” you yell and chase after her
  490. >She proves too quick and by the time you enter your bedroom she’s laying stretched out on your bed
  491. >”Gee Anon where have you been?” she asks, mockingly preening herself
  492. >You say nothing and, feigning exhaustion, collapse on top of her
  493. >”Okay Anon, it’s not funny!” she gasps underneath your frame before you roll off of her
  494. >Serves her right
  495. >It’s not proper to disrespect a man in his own bedroom after all
  496. >She scurries underneath the covers as you peel off your shirt and slide in next to her
  497. >You wrap an arm around her and she molds the arc of her back to your chest
  498. >The two of you exhale contentedly and you switch off the lamp
  499. >”Hey Anon” she whispers in the dark
  500. “Yeah”
  501. >”Thank you. For everything”
