  1. Basic Overview:
  2. There is a direct comparison between The Milkman and all the destruction that has taken place in the background – the way the entire photo has this contrast as most of the photo is dark and this is symbolic of death and destruction while the milk man is wearing all white and carrying milk bottles which is symbolic of hope and peace – because he is a civilian, he represents a state of the people who are just trying to live their lives out peacefully while the rubble and the background is representative of the enemy and their aims to destroy everything that the civilians have.
  3.
  4. Milk Man – colour contrast – white, focal point of the photo compared to everything else – we can also see with the rule of thirds, he is the single most important focus of the shot compared to the other 2 sides.
  5. Observing his body – we can see he is walking calmly, no sense of urgency
  6. If we look at the orientation of the shot, we can see that he is looking directly at the camera at head level.
  7. His gaze is directly at the camera, he is smiling and from this we can assume that he is calm and relaxed and in way friendly, there is no animosity to anyone
  8. While the firefighters are trying to control the blaze, they are not the same as the milkman, their black colour doesn’t portray them in the same light as the milk man, they are less peaceful but more neutral.
