  8. Causes of Traffic
  9. - People
  10. Traffic is caused by undisciplined jeepney, bus and taxi drivers that stop in the middle of the road to take in passengers. . Rush hours just contribute to the problem. There are times when the traffic is too heavy that the cars are completely still for minutes. As a citizen, the best way to help is to be aware of the street rules and follow them. For the drivers, be a defensive driver, it's best to be safe. Accidents just worsen everything. It affects your time, your vehicle, the other cars and most of all it risks your life. there are other ways to help, like donating funds for development, it is very inconvenient. We know that there is a lot of corruption happening in the Philippines, therefore your donation will most likely go into the official's "pockets". Accidents just worsen everything. It affects your time, your vehicle, the other cars and most of all it risks your life.
  11.
  12. - Roads
  13. There are bad roads that have to be fixed and water lines that need to be reconstructed. This happens repeatedly, therefore making the traffic worse than what it is.
  14.
  15. - vehicles
  16. Basically there's more cars than the road could even handle in the first place.

  19. Solutions of traffic
  20. - Bus Stops
  21. Stopping buses cause immense congestion - especially due to in-disciplined pulling-up (across 2 lanes), spontaneous stopping (to pick-up/drop-off passengers on the roadside) or when double parking at already full designated bus stops. Designated bus shelters don't work unless bus activity is ALSO firmly regulated and the rules are enforced. There is too much in-discipline for the good-will of rules to work unsupported. The best solution is to remove ALL bus stopping from along EDSA - making off-route stops in side-streets or mini-bus stations/hubs at key points.
  22.
  23. - Roadside Parking
  24. Short or long term parking causes traffic delays by obstructing the inner lane. There should be no roadside parking permitted on EDSA. This MUST be enforced vigorously to be effective. No regulatory solution will work without capable enforcement. Even where 'off-road' parking is available (roadside retail units) congestion is caused when motorists have to change lanes to align for parking and/or when pulling in/out of parking slots onto EDSA. The amount of roadside retail along EDSA should be reduced over time to create an 'Expressway' approach to EDSA. It is a (the!) primary traffic artery through Manila - it should not be treated/planned like an ordinary road.
  25.
  26. - MRT/LRT
  27. The MRT/LRT does not have sufficient capacity to function as a modern mass-transit system. The failure of the MRT/LRT causes the over-reliance on city buses. Buses cause congestion. Serious investment in MRT/LRT capability is the best long-term solution for reducing traffic congestion in the Metro. This result has been proven in many capital/major cities around the world.
