  1. Coffee Stain Studios of Skövde, the developers behind the gaming success Goat Simulator, are betting "millions" on the development of the arena-game Battlerite. Behind the game are Stunlock Studios, they too with their origin in Skövde.
  2.
  3. Intense arena-gaming in a fantasy environment. Such does the director of Stunlock Studios, Rickard Frisegård, describe the new game Battlerite, with a budget of 20 million SEK.
  4.
  5. "Battlerite is designed around short, intensive rounds where you challenge each other in an arena environment. It has obvious competitive elements, and we hope that the game will be a hit as a new e-sport", he says.
  6.
  7. Currently, the game only exists as a prototype. But that was enough for the friends at Coffee Stain Studios to invest in it.
  8.
  9. "We have wanted to cooperate with Stunlock Studios for a long time. It's an amazingly talented studio. When we got to see their new game we instantly felt that this was something we wanted in on." says Anton Westbergh, director of Coffee Stain Studios that both develops and publishes games.
  10.
  11. Coffee Stain are primarily known for the gaming hit Goat Simulator that up until January had sold over 7 million copies. They're now investing millions in Battlerite, according to Stunlocks director Richard Frisegård.
  12.
  13. "We haven't publicised the sum. But the game does have a total budget of 20 million SEK, including marketing for the launch later this year.", says Richard Friseård, director at Stunlock Studios with 25 employees in Skövde.
  14.
  15. The investment means that Coffee Stain gets a cut of the project profits that mirrors their investment.
  16.
  17. "Coffee Stain will become a passive investor for the launch of the game for PC in Northern America and Europe later this year. They have chosen to trust our vision, and have not demanded to get the last word in creative decisions", says Rickard Frisegård.
  18.
  19. A small, related detail is that the university of Skövde will study the development of Battlerite.
  20.
  21. "We hope to adjust the gaming experience according to their conclusions", says Rickard Frisegård.
  22.
  23. Stunlock Studios cashed (?) about 14.5 million SEK in 2015, with a profit of 3 million SEK. The company describes themselves as pioneers in the MOBA genre, and are foremost known for the arena game "Bloodline Champions". Since the start they've worked with publishers such as Norwegian Funcom and german Deep Silver.
  24.
  25. Just like Coffee Stain Studios, Stunlock was formed in Skövde in 2010, as a result of a school project at the local university.
