  2. [21:42] <yama> Heyas, TimeGentleman. Welcome back to #dfadventure. :D
  3. [21:42] * Joins: Syd (ae35447c@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com)
  4. [21:42] <TimeGentleman> Evening all!
  5. [21:42] <Syd> Hey
  6. [21:43] <yama> Syd! Hi. :)
  7. [21:43] <TimeGentleman> Hi yama hi Syd!
  8. [21:44] <Syd> Cheeseness is still offline. Hopefully he won't be late.
  9. [21:44] <yama> I think more people will drop in soon.
  10. [21:44] <yama> There's usually people joining up until after the stream has started, too.
  11. [21:44] <yama> Cheese was here earlier today.
  12. [21:45] <Syd> Yeah, we usually have people popping in around the time it's supposed to start.
  13. [21:45] <yama> It seemed like he'd come on for this session.
  14. [21:45] <Syd> Yeah, I just know it's really early for him.
  15. [21:45] <TimeGentleman> Where are you guys based?
  16. [21:46] <Syd> East coast US
  17. [21:46] <Syd> So it's mid-afternoon for me right now.
  18. [21:46] <yama> Sweden here so it's nearing 10pm.
  19. [21:47] <TimeGentleman> What's the 9pm that you guys use as the official start time? Is same time for me
  20. [21:48] <TimeGentleman> (this is really lazy of me not to Google)
  21. [21:48] <yama> IIRC, UTZ is like GMT except not affected by daylight savings.
  22. [21:48] <TimeGentleman> yama: In Sweden, speaking English, with a japanese handle :)
  23. [21:48] <yama> Ahah. Yeah. ^^:
  24. [21:48] <TimeGentleman> Ahhh, I see.
  25. [21:49] <TimeGentleman> If this is all going in the chat log, perhaps I should be more interesting and relevant..!
  26. [21:49] <yama> It's a bit funny. I hear as much spoken Japanese as I do Swedish because I watch a lot of anime. I also only ever write in English. But my spoken language is all Swedish. ^^:
  27. [21:50] <yama> It's a bit hard to find the right words when talking to people because of this. ^^:
  28. [21:50] <Syd> Well, I have pretty much everything set up for the stream. If there's any trouble like last week, I can try switching the streaming server and see if that fixes anything.
  29. [21:50] <TimeGentleman> Well, your written English is at least as good as mine!
  30. [21:50] <TimeGentleman> Cool, thanks Syd
  31. [21:50] <Syd> Once again, I won't be too talkative in chat because if I click out of the game, the game's audio goes out, and the soundtrack is too good to let something like that happen. :)
  32. [21:51] <yama> English is an awesome language so I try to do my best. :)
  33. [21:51] <TimeGentleman> the glitches were weird last week
  34. [21:51] <TimeGentleman> Yes. Yes it is.
  35. [21:51] <TimeGentleman> Thanks Syd the SE music is great, isn't it?
  36. [21:52] <Syd> Yeah, it is.
  37. [21:52] <yama> What glitches were there last time? I forgot.
  38. [21:52] <TimeGentleman> Also, you don't want to miss out on my last bit of VO
  39. [21:52] <Syd> I remember that the intro music to the "State 51" area played twice for some reason.
  40. [21:52] <TimeGentleman> For me, it kept going black for a couple of seconds, and I'd occasionally get a glitchy freezeframe of something that had happened five minutes before
  41. [21:53] <Syd> Ah yeah, the stream issues
  42. [21:53] <Syd> I'll try the streaming server that's in London if it has the same problems again.
  43. [21:54] <TimeGentleman> Thx Syd. I'm on a different PC with a better connection now, so maybe that will help (I assume not tho)
  44. [21:54] <Syd> Steam alert just went off. 5 minutes until we start.
  45. [21:55] <yama> Yup. Got that, too.
  46. [21:55] <yama> For once I've got Steam open to see the alert.
  47. [21:55] <Syd> But yeah, we usually get some people coming in late. It's not unusual.
  48. [21:56] <Syd> Also, this is a busy weekend for a lot of people. :P

  52. [21:56] <The_Patient> hello
  53. [21:56] <The_Patient> im sorry i wasnt here the past month
  54. [21:56] <TimeGentleman> hello The_Patient
  55. [21:56] <The_Patient> for da club
  56. [21:57] <TimeGentleman> Where did we get to last session?
  57. [21:57] <TimeGentleman> Chuckie Egg, right?
  58. [21:57] <Syd> I finished up with the Dinosaur game developers
  59. [21:57] <TimeGentleman> Haven't got to the hidden room yet

  62. [21:58] <Tanukitsune> Hi!
  63. [21:58] <The_Patient> i bought a bunch of new p&c games in the steam sale
  64. [21:58] <yama> Hiyas, Tanukitsune. Welcome back.
  65. [21:58] <Syd> If I don't wander around the spaceship too much trying to remember where it was
  66. [21:58] <The_Patient> feels good man
  67. [21:58] <TimeGentleman> The dialogue where Ben notices that room had to be patched in because most people didn't notice the new door

  71. [21:59] <Tanukitsune> Thanks though!
  72. [21:59] <Syd> The first time I played it, I was playing the SE version, and I still managed to get stuck because I didn't know there was a new door. I felt silly when I finally found it.
  73. [21:59] <yama> We don't get all too many visitors here. ;0
  74. [21:59] <The_Patient> Did you guys already filled your carts at steam?
  75. [21:59] <yama> The_Patient, I only got RPG Maker because a few friends were talking about getting it.
  76. [21:59] <TimeGentleman> I thought it would be cool to have a subtle door crack, because the player would notice any minor difference after wandering up and down the hub so many times
  77. [21:59] <Tanukitsune> Nah, you have to wait to final day in case a game gets even cheaper
  78. [21:59] <TimeGentleman> I was totally wrong
  79. [21:59] <Fireflower> you should fill your cart at fireflower instead :)
  80. [22:00] <yama> I really don't need any more games I won't play so I won't look any more at the sale. ;0
  81. [22:00] <The_Patient> i like gifting
  82. [22:00] <The_Patient> but i only gift
  83. [22:00] <The_Patient> for competitions
  84. [22:00] <Tanukitsune> I will eat a delicious cupcake for a free steam game.
  85. [22:00] <Syd> Still no Cheeseness. Oh well, I'll be starting shortly. Spam chat if you need me to do something.
  86. [22:01] <The_Patient> hmm spam
  87. [22:01] <yama> TimeGentleman, so people weren't that perceptive, huh?

  91. [22:01] <yama> Aww. Haha. :)
  92. [22:02] <TimeGentleman> I thought it would stick out like a sore thumb, but no
  93. [22:02] <yama> w00t! I'm getting to hear Cheese's full intro this time.

  102. [22:03] <Tanukitsune> Obligatory HL reference!
  103. [22:03] <The_Patient> does this game have pixel hunting
  104. [22:04] <Tanukitsune> Not as far as I remember
  105. [22:04] <TimeGentleman> There's no tiny, unobvious objects
  106. [22:04] <The_Patient> okay ill put it on my list
  107. [22:04] <TimeGentleman> But some that people might mistake for bg (can-opener)
  108. [22:04] <TimeGentleman> This is cool. Some LOST style intrigue
  109. [22:04] <Tanukitsune> Yeah, it's only considered pixel hunting when something is practically hidden on screen
  110. [22:05] <TimeGentleman> rozzers = police
  111. [22:05] <The_Patient> its quite annoying that every sale i scrap a bunch of games off my list by buying it, only to have it grow back again in a matter of a day
  112. [22:06] <Fireflower> just need to finish my dishes...

  122. [22:07] <TimeGentleman> and at least one of them does the One Life Left podcast now

  125. [22:07] <TimeGentleman> I think the player can adjust the speed
  126. [22:08] <TimeGentleman> otherwise it's probably AGS default
  127. [22:08] <yama> It just feels like longer lines stay for a longer period of time than shorter ones.
  128. [22:08] <The_Patient> did you consider voice acting yourself
  129. [22:08] <TimeGentleman> I think it works it out per character
  130. [22:08] <Tanukitsune> Well, you wouldn't have time to read the longer ones if they didn't. :|
  131. [22:09] <yama> Ah. Works well, however it's done. ^^
  132. [22:09] <TimeGentleman> the_patient not for this game, it was originally freeware and there's too much dialogue
  133. [22:09] <TimeGentleman> also, Dan deffo didn't want to act, and I might have tried it but not without Dan playing his counterpart too

  136. [22:10] <The_Patient> what do your R's sound like
  137. [22:10] <yama> I'm not particularly fond of the letter R, either.
  138. [22:10] <ricin> you can always crowdsource the VO
  139. [22:10] <TimeGentleman> This dialogue all nearly entirely irrelevant!
  140. [22:11] <The_Patient> the journalists?
  141. [22:11] <ricin> like people do on newgrounds all the time
  142. [22:11] <TimeGentleman> ricin still too much dialogue!

  150. [22:13] <yama> TimeGentleman, maybe you answered this last time, but do you play many adventure games?
  151. [22:13] <The_Patient> it seems like you regret some things in the game you wanted to improve
  152. [22:13] <TimeGentleman> Not loads. I played all the old Lucasarts
  153. [22:13] <TimeGentleman> And I dabble in Wadjet Eye and AGS freeware

  224. [22:24] <Tanukitsune> I think I remember one?

  226. [22:24] <TimeGentleman> There's deffo a jacket ref in TGP, maybe one in this
  227. [22:24] <The_Patient> lots of exceptions

  404. [22:54] <seregrail7> I can't remember if I gave any feedback on this one it's so long ago now
  405. [22:54] <ja2ke> you need two plane parallax

  480. [23:11] <The_Patient> i sure do love
  481. [23:11] <The_Patient> gabe

  483. [23:12] <The_Patient> 1 euro oh boi
  484. [23:12] <ja2ke> games
  485. [23:12] <Fireflower> it's unfortunately not on Fireflower :)
  486. [23:12] <TimeGentleman> yeah, you can get BTDT and TGP bundle for 짙3 on Steam (unless it's on sale, in which case less)
  487. [23:12] <Syd> TGP is bigger and better, it's a great game.
  488. [23:12] <Syd> And you all should go play it. :)
  489. [23:12] <yama> TimeGentleman, does Steam check with you before they put games on sale?
  490. [23:12] <The_Patient> tgp
  491. [23:12] <yama> I'd imagine it affects people's profits?
  492. [23:12] <The_Patient> i dont know what that is
  493. [23:12] <ricin> heh $1.24 on steam
  494. [23:12] <TimeGentleman> hmmm, that's a Dan question yama, but I assume so, yeah!
  495. [23:12] <Syd> TGP = Time Gentlemen, Please
  496. [23:13] <Syd> It's the sequel
  497. [23:13] <The_Patient> okay
  498. [23:13] <yama> TimeGentleman, I see. :\
  499. [23:13] <Syd> It has time traveling, dinosaurs, and Hitler. What more could you ask for?
  500. [23:13] <The_Patient> its 1 euro for both games
  501. [23:13] <yama> Kinda makes me not want to buy games that are on sale because I want to support the devs of games I like.
  502. [23:13] <Syd> Buy it through their website, then. I believe it's pay-what-you-want.
  503. [23:14] <TimeGentleman> yama, the more Steam sales the better, plus u can always donate at our website :)
  504. [23:14] <Fireflower> games on sale might sell more copies though

  509. [23:14] <yama> Fireflower, I suppose you might be right.
  510. [23:15] <Syd> It's why Steam sales keep happening. Loads of copies are sold and it ends up being a net profit.
  511. [23:15] <TimeGentleman> there's a behind the scenes e-book and a short animatic video about how Dan ended up dead at the start of BTDT
  512. [23:15] <yama> Do the extras come downloaded when installing the game off of Steam?
  513. [23:15] <Syd> I liked the animatic and e-book. I looked through them not too long ago.
  514. [23:15] <Syd> Yeah
  515. [23:16] <Syd> I was playing the Steam version
  516. [23:16] <yama> Ah-ha.
  517. [23:16] <TimeGentleman> any questions or thoughts on BTDT? I'm trying to think of more itneresting stuff to say about it beyond "did you know we quote Star Wars if you use the blu-tak on the fish"?
  518. [23:17] <TimeGentleman> thanks for showing up in any case, everyone, and for organising, Syd and Cheese
  519. [23:17] <Syd> Is it in BTDT that basically using anything on anything produces a unique line?
  520. [23:17] <Syd> Or was that TGP
  521. [23:17] <yama> Can't think of any more questions myself.
  522. [23:17] <TimeGentleman> It's both!
  523. [23:17] <Tanukitsune> Neither can I
  524. [23:18] <Syd> I remember something about the coding process for that being messy.
  525. [23:18] <TimeGentleman> Although in TGP we used repeated dialogue if we really couldn't come up with anything funny to say!
  526. [23:18] <TimeGentleman> Hmmm, don't think so Syd
  527. [23:18] <Syd> Hmm. Oh well!
  528. [23:19] <TimeGentleman> Oh, it does mention in the e-book actually that it's a little tidier to have a ctach all line and then exceptions
  529. [23:19] <Syd> I bet the voice acting costs would have been pretty high with that many potential lines.
  530. [23:19] <TimeGentleman> *catch-all*
  531. [23:19] <The_Patient> gotta catch em
  532. [23:19] <TimeGentleman> yeah, exactly, plus lots of time and data
  533. [23:19] <Syd> But it's a lot more interesting than the old boring "I can't do that" lines.
  534. [23:20] <TimeGentleman> yeah, we used our one advantage which was the time and inclination to write responses for everything
  535. [23:20] <The_Patient> catch-all i could think that would actually use more resources than exceptions
  536. [23:20] <TimeGentleman> No extra cost for us, makes the game stand out
  537. [23:21] <Syd> Thanks for coming, TimeGentleman! Maybe someday we'll play through TGP for the game club as well. :)
  538. [23:21] <TimeGentleman> I hope so, Syd! That would probably be even more interesting as it's a more complex game
  539. [23:21] <yama> Yeah, with DFA potentially getting a later release date than April, we might need more games to play.
  540. [23:22] <Syd> I have a big backlog of adventure games that could be steamed.
  541. [23:22] <TimeGentleman> Game CLub can go on past DFA release anyway, right?
  542. [23:22] <Syd> Though I'd rather not be the streamer every session. I like to be lazy sometimes.
  543. [23:22] <Syd> Yeah, no reason it couldn't keep going.
  544. [23:22] <yama> TimeGentleman, feel free to check the forum for what we're up to and drop by if you see us playing anything that interests you. :)
  545. [23:23] <TimeGentleman> I would offer to be the streamer but I'd probably read *every* line of dialogue and take 20 hours to play through
  546. [23:23] <Fireflower> we might be playing Police quest next week
  547. [23:23] <yama> Yeah, I see no reason for not continuing, either.
  548. [23:23] <TimeGentleman> yama, I deffo will
  549. [23:23] <Tanukitsune> Man, Police Quest is my least favorite Sierra game
  550. [23:23] <TimeGentleman> feel bad for missing the first few, I didn't quite grasp the concept
  551. [23:24] <TimeGentleman> u'll notice there are pretty much zero Sierra refs in our games!
  552. [23:24] <yama> I have a feeling I'll be an idler in this channel for as long as I keep using IRC and I have no plans to stop that.
  553. [23:24] <Fireflower> police quest is one of my favorites :)
  554. [23:24] <Syd> The game I last streamed for the game club before BTDT was Sam & Max Hit the Road, oddly enough.
  555. [23:24] <Syd> Two similar games, back to back.
  556. [23:25] <Tanukitsune> Aw man! I can't believe I missed that one! D:
  557. [23:25] <TimeGentleman> Yeah, I can't find the chatlog for that, i don't think
  558. [23:25] <TimeGentleman> Don't think it was posted for that one...

  561. [23:25] <Syd> I had a guide open while I was playing through it, and I still managed to get stuck a few times.

  564. [23:25] <Syd> I don't think we had a chatlog for the other one.
  565. [23:25] <The_Patient> one more question
  566. [23:25] <Syd> I think Cheeseness was moving at the time, and he was our chatlog guy
  567. [23:25] <yama> Chat logs can always be got.
  568. [23:25] <The_Patient> was there a bottom season 4 in the making?
  569. [23:26] <TimeGentleman> dunno re Bottom. I think I heard the other week that they're considering doing one now.
  570. [23:26] <yama> There are Sam & Max logs, though: http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/7787/
  571. [23:26] <Syd> yama, you got the chatlog for this session? I'm connected through a web client so I don't think I can get it.
  572. [23:27] <The_Patient> k thanks
  573. [23:27] <yama> Oh, sure. I've logged everything. :D
  574. [23:27] <Syd> Alrighty
  575. [23:27] <Fireflower> what games would you guys like to see here?
  576. [23:27] <Syd> We didn't have much of a turnout for Sam & Max, which was unfortunate.
  577. [23:27] <TimeGentleman> oh yeah, I did find the SnM one actually, it was some of the others that don't have it
  578. [23:27] <Syd> But the stream was archived, at least
  579. [23:28] <TimeGentleman> Right, I'm going to get back to my LOST marathon!
  580. [23:28] <Fireflower> have fun :)
  581. [23:28] <Syd> Thanks for chatting with us, TimeGentleman
  582. [23:28] <TimeGentleman> thx!
