  1. >What was that saying before?
  2. >Every second counts?
  3. >Well, with time ticking down- don’t you have a lot to think about.
  4. >Five…
  5. >The final countdown.
  6. >Four…
  7. >All these years…
  8. >Three…
  9. >All the training…
  10. >Two…
  11. >Comes to this.
  12. >One…
  13.
  14. >Fast forward to three days after.
  15. >You are Anonymous.
  16. >Captain of the Space Shuttle, ‘Discovery’.
  17. >One out of four crew members.
  18. >Betty, Rodney and Andrew.
  19. >Lovely bastards, up here for experiments.
  20. >Betty, the biologist- tested effects of vacuum on animals.
  21. >Everyone was half-surprised to not see the critter not go boom.
  22. >Yes, you won’t explode out there.
  23. >After a few days of eating toothpaste and dry bars, you’re ready to go home.
  24. >Maybe you’ll grab a nice cheeseburger.
  25. >You turn away from the cockpit, and press a small button next to you.
  26. >”Yeah?” A voice rings out from the other side.
  27. “How’s it in the space lab?” You ask.
  28. >”Sick of it already, Anon.” another voice chimes in.
  29. “Yeah, yeah. Anyway, we’re setting up in ten minutes, get your ass back in here by then, alright?”
  30. >”Copy that.”
  31. >You leave your chair and hover to the back wall of the flight deck.
  32. >Through a tiny window, you spot a white arm of the shuttle, and the box placed on its end.
  33. >You nod and tug on your buttocks, these MAGs were itchy.
  34. >Also known as ‘adult-diapers’, you always kept in on in case of a need for EVA.
  35. >You pull down your orange suit, revealing a tight, white suit underneath.
  36. >Despite the insistence of others, you thought to keep the inner suit on.
  37. >As far as you knew, anything could happen out here.
  38. >And in space, no one can hear you scream.
  39. >Yes, you were waiting to use that line.
  40. >You see the white arm moving on the corner of your eye.
  41. >About time the three got back in.
  42. >You absent-mindedly grab a dry bar.
  43. >Not very palatable, but it was the only thing you had.
  44. >You munch on it, thinking about the past few days.
  45. >Pretty fucking boring.
  46. >As the pilot, you only had to bring the ship out and in.
  47. >Leave the workings to the scientists, you were an astronaut.
  48. >The job is not as hyped up as it’s supposed to be.
  49. >And to think-
  50. >Your ramblings are cut short as the shuttle suddenly lurched backwards.
  51. >You knew it was backwards, since you were flung from your seat to the ceiling above.
  52. >You rub the dull ache on your head, and look out the window.
  53. >And to be frank, you cannot believe what you are seeing.
  54. >A massive swirling vortex, in a deep hue of navy blue- opened up through the mid-section of the shuttle.
  55. >It was semi-transparent; you could see the stars behind it.
  56. >It slowly engulfed the ship, and the white arm moving towards it.
  57. >Shit, Betty and the rest.
  58. >You rushed to the button and pressed it, only to hear screams and calls for help.
  59. >A panicked voice tried to revert the arm and-
  60. >Silence.
  61. >Nothing.
  62. “Guys?” You call to the speaker.
  63. “G-guys?” Your voice reduces to a whisper.
  64. >Nothing answers but the static.
  65. >You stare blankly at the black holes on the wall.
  66. >You then silently let go of the button, and move to the window.
  67. >You push your body forward, shooting to the small glassed opening.
  68. >Suddenly, a wave of force knocks you back, violently throwing you back to the cockpit.
  69. >You shout out in pain, as you slowly roll down to the floor.
  70. >The dry bar you left gently fluttered to the floor, sending out small chunks in every direction.
  71. >Wait a second.
  72. >It fell.
  73. >To the floor.
  74. >So did you.
  75. >Gravity.
  76. >And as that thought leaves your mind, you are jerked upwards again, by a force underneath.
  77. >You land back soon enough.
  78. >Sound of metal clattering and brushing fills you ears.
  79. >You begin to shake, not by the cold, but by the impact.
  80. >After a while it stops.
  81. >And silence again.
  82. >You quickly leap to your feet and look out of the cockpit window.
  83. >You see grey surface.
  84. >You crashed.
  85.
  86. >You pull on your Snoopy cap.
  87. >God this cannot happen.
  88. >This cannot-
  89. >You landed.
  90. >Correction, you crash landed.
  91. >You shake your head and move to the back window.
  92. >You see nothing but the vastness of space.
  93. >You see nothing.
  94. >Not even the-
  95. >WHERE’S THE BACK PART?
  96. >THE OTHER HALF?
  97.
  98. “Shitshitshitshitshit-“ You mumble silently, as you put on the HUT, the chest piece of the EMU- the space suit.
  99. >You are multitasking, even as you breathe in the pure oxygen; you are zipping up your suit.
  100. >Metaphorically of course.
  101. >A zipper will depressurize your suit in a matter of seconds.
  102. >After what it feels like an agonizing fifteen minutes, you are set to go.
  103. >Fuck the sickness, you’re going out.
  104. >You put on the reflective helmet, and step into this tiny white room.
  105. >At a press of a button, the door behind you shut close.
  106. >You hear the hiss of air escaping, and another door in front of you opened slowly.
  107. >You resist the force slowly pulling you out.
  108. >No wonder they call it the vacuum cleaner.
  109. >You step out, and walk on the clear, white flooring of the mid-section.
  110. >You noticed how it stuck up, facing the sky.
  111. >You step out slowly, approaching the end of the mid-section.
  112. >And then, you see the surface.
  113. >Dark grey ground, littered with craters.
  114. >And then the realization hits you.
  115. >You are on the moon.
  116. >You look up to the white arm, at least what was left of it.
  117. >You see the base and the newly shortened limb.
  118. >It was a clean cut.
  119. >Whatever that vortex did…
  120. >You try to find the other half of that arm, let alone the shuttle.
  121. >And the three of your crew.
  122. >And here you were, alone and stranded.
  123. >And just to make it so, it is on the day of your return.
  124. >You jump out of the edge of the open mid-section, hitting the ground with your feet.
  125. >Moon dust flew around, as you slowly made a trail around the ship.
  126. >You are right; it was a clean cut right through the middle of the ship.
  127. >Whatever, or whoever did this, had good aim.
  128. >The wings are gone, and obviously the thrusters behind it.
  129. >The generators are luckily still on your side.
  130. >You give the revealed machinery a few pokes to make sure it is still working.
  131. >One generator’s out, but the rest are still working.
  132. >Fuel cells are a-go.
  133. >The surface of the ship looks mostly intact, safe for a few scratches here and there.
  134. >The crash leveled the ship a little, shaping it to a flat surface.
  135. >You can only wonder what force in nature could’ve done this.
  136.
  137. >She blew the dust off her mouth.
  138. >She shook it off her short, mane, revealing its blue shading.
  139. >Her Nightmare left long ago, maybe she got bored.
  140. >Her whispers stopped, and so did the strength she gave her.
  141. >Her tears stopped long ago, along with anything else.
  142. >But today-
  143. >Today will be different.
  144. >Or was it tomorrow?
  145. >Or yesterday?
  146. >Time passed differently up here.
  147. >She fixed the jet black tiara on her head, right behind her long horn.
  148. >The breastplate could use some shine, the white symbol is getting darker by day.
  149. >Don’t even get her started on her shoes.
  150. >Ignoring that, she walked up to a crater.
  151. >Her wings shook and flared open, scattering the shining dust everywhere.
  152. >She perched on the edge of the crater, and looked below, to the world she was cast out of.
  153.
  154. >All because she wanted to be seen.
  155. >All because of-
  156. >She stopped herself- and the tears that pooled around her eyes.
  157. >No, this was not the time.
  158. >Today, she will bring a friend.
  159. >She focused what magic she had within her body.
  160. >Her body shook after spending so much time unmoving, and the strain of casting the spell worsened it.
  161. >She should be able to do it-
  162. >She used to raise the moon.
  163. >After a while, she finally opened a portal.
  164. >Coming from somewhere, someplace.
  165. >She didn’t care.
  166. >She felt a single life, and she pulled it in.
  167. >And in an instant, a giant white object appeared from the darkness.
  168. >The vortex dissipated, and she soon found herself running from the object that was coming at her.
  169. >Focusing her magic once again, she quickly teleported away.
  170. >She only appeared few meters away, barely avoiding the… thing.
  171. >Heh, magic’s slightly off today.
  172. >She quickly rose to her hooves, and looked at the thing curiously.
  173. >She poked it once.
  174. >It was so exciting right now.
  175. >But she simply sat there, waiting for the object to respond.
  176. >”Hello!” She called out excitedly.
  177. >”I’m Luna!”
  178. >She excitedly held out a hoof.
  179. >The broken nose of the shuttle did little to make acquaintance.
  180. >She then heard a simple thump on the far end of the new friend.
  181. >Luna paid no attention, she wanted to say hello to the shy creature.
  182.
  183. >You trail the smooth surface of the shuttle with a hand, feeling the full damage the ship took.
  184. >The white color changed to black- you’re getting near to the nose.
  185. >As you look up the cockpit window, your legs hit something hard.
  186. >You almost trip, shaking your arms to regain your balance.
  187. >>You look down to the object.
  188. >And you just freeze.
  189. >You stare down the creature, about waist-high in its seat.
  190. >It blinks once, and stares back.
  191. >It’s…
  192. >A winged horse?
  193. >With… a horn?
  194. >Your eyes slowly trail from its emerald eyes, and then down to it slender neck.
  195. >You spot a breastplate, with a white crescent moon symbol.
  196. >Wait a minute…
  197. >You look up again, to spot the jet black crown resting right behind the horn, right on the light aqua blue mane.
  198. >Should you call it mane?
  199. >You think it’s a horse.
  200. >It just seems so…
  201. >Human.
  202. >You also think it’s female, judging by the feminine outline of its body.
  203. >You’re not even sure why you decided that it was female.
  204. >Anyway, for the moment, you’ll decide that it is a female, mutant horse.
  205. >In space.
  206. >Maybe you discovered some sort of a new species or-
  207. >Decompression sickness.
  208. >That must be it.
  209. >You then notice it’s ‘talking’.
  210. >The expression on its face has brightened up, and it looks human.
  211. >Too human.
  212.
  213. >”Hello! What’s your name?”
  214. >Luna kept on shouting at the strange creature, with the round, big head.
  215. >It had a reflective, gold face- from which Luna saw herself.
  216. >The color reminded of a certain somepony…
  217.
  218. >It was dark.
  219. >SHE liked it dark.
  220. >SHE was in full control now, wrecking havoc with her magic.
  221. >She couldn’t stop HER, the one they called Night-Mare Moon.
  222. >And then, when her body tired of using so much magic, she felt a sense of relief washing over her body.
  223. >Nightmare let her guard down.
  224. >And after what felt like seconds, a second wave of emotion washed over her.
  225. >Worry.
  226. >Fear.
  227. >Luna saw through her eyes, the golden gleam of her sister’s breastplate.
  228. >And she also saw the gems swirling around the golden armor.
  229. >Luna knew what she saw.
  230. >And as Nightmare tried to teleport away, Luna lashed out the final time.
  231. >She held the demon down, as it desperately tried to flee.
  232. >Fear grew to anger and frenzy.
  233. >And for that moment, Luna felt peace.
  234. >She finally done something right.
  235. >As the energy of harmony washed over her, Luna could not but help to smile.
  236. >Something good for once…
  237.
  238. >Luna snapped back to the current moment.
  239. >”Hello!” She called out again.
  240. >But the creature was gone.
  241. >But he was still here on the moon, Luna knew it.
  242. >It was trapped here with her.
  243. >She saw the footprints on the dusty floor.
  244. >For the record, she drew her face on the moon several times by now.
  245. >Lune turned to the hulking object she conversed earlier.
  246. >”What was your name again?”
  247.
  248. “NOPENOPENOPENOPE-“
  249. >You slam the airlock.
  250. >You activate the button again, and the hissing goes through.
  251. >It must be because of sudden exposure to pure oxygen, you just knew it.
  252. >Must be some strange side-effect, you were sure.
  253. >You quickly take off the suit, dropping the individual pieces on the floor.
  254. >You sigh loudly and plop down on your pilot seat.
  255. >You randomly press the buttons, hoping for any kind of reaction.
  256. >Nothing.
  257. >From the valves, you can see about a day worth of oxygen left.
  258. >Can’t say the same for the food.
  259. >You pick up the dry bar and begin to chew again.
  260. >Any moment now.
  261. >Aaaaany moment now.
  262. >And-
  263. >Nothing.
  264. >You’re fine.
  265. >No headaches, no limb pain.
  266. >You grab the oxygen mask again.
  267. >No fucking way.
  268.
  269. >After the full thirty minutes (and an extra minute for safe-keeping), you are ready to don your suit again.
  270. >Pre-breathing was boring as hell.
  271. >You sat there for a full hour and a half, playing with a ball Andrew brought in.
  272. >Betty, Rodney, Andrew…
  273. >A small optimistic side of you wishes they are alright, alive.
  274. >But that’s impossible.
  275. >They weren’t even in their suits, it’s right there in the-
  276. >Wait, the suits!
  277. >You walk over to a white wall cabinet and open it.
  278. >Three white suits greet you, all EMU.
  279. >Perfect.
  280. >You pull out a Snoopy cap, something akin to a pilot’s leather cap.
  281. >It had the microphones to talk-
  282. >No, wait.
  283. >You’re actually planning to talk to it?
  284. >Well, what choice did you have?
  285. >If it is some sentient life form, (which you highly doubt) it could help you.
  286. >Never know until you fall, right?
  287. >Your eye catches the nametags on the suits.
  288. >Even if you never knew them personally and kept the distance to a few jokes and chats- you can’t help but to feel for them.
  289. >They were still your crew.
  290. “Thanks, guys.” You pat the shoulder of a suit.
  291. >You raise the cap as if to prove your point, and grab your helmet.
  292. >You enter the airlock.
  293.
  294. >Luna began to prod the metallic object, namely banging rocks on its surface.
  295. >After staying so long around rocks, metal felt so… interesting.
  296. >She heard a thud on the back of the object.
  297. >”Awwww, did you fart again?” Luna let out a giggle.
  298. >She never felt so alive before.
  299. >She had a friend.
  300. >After some pleasantries, Luna felt a tap on her back.
  301. >It was the white creature again!
  302. >Luna used its face to adjust and fix her mane.
  303. >There, perfect.
  304. >And the creature handed her a beige cap.
  305. >It had strange devices and markings on it, was it some sort of a magical device?
  306. >The creature had digits, maybe he’s a minotaur!
  307. >That is great news!
  308. >He can help Luna lift rocks across the surface!
  309. >Then, Luna can make more faces!
  310. >The minotaur starts making gestures on his round head, putting up his two hands above his head and lowers it- and repeats it.
  311. >Luna stares at him for a second, and then to the cap she was holding.
  312. >”Put it on?” She asked.
  313. >The minotaur paused for a second, and then nodded.
  314. >Luna lifted it with her magic, and plopped it over her head.
  315. >It tipped the tiara off her head.
  316. >”Now what?” Luna asked, having fun in this game.
  317. >The creature raised a finger to a box on his chest, and pressed a button.
  318. >Luna suddenly heard static, and she heard a voice.
  319. “Now we can talk.”
  320. >Huh, he had a much softer voice to what she expected.
  321. >The white creature turned his back on the sun, and got to his knees.
  322. >”What are you doing?” Luna asked through the cap.
  323. >That’s no minotaur.
  324.
  325. “Hi.” You say, waving at the pony.
  326. >Her upwards-pointing ears are folded down, thanks to the cap.
  327. >The thing blinked once, before a grin etched on her face.
  328. >When was it a ‘her’?
  329. >When you heard that voice, Anon.
  330. >”Hello!” She shouted again, lending out a hoof to you.
  331. >You smile and take it with your hand, and give a firm shake.
  332. >Oh god, you always knew you’ll go mad in space.
  333. >”I’m Luna!”
  334. “I’m Anonymous, nice to meet you, Luna.”
  335. >”What are you, anyway?” Luna giddily skips across the landscape, not being affected by the harsh conditions.
  336. “I’m a human…” You trail off, enraptured by Luna’s ability to move swiftly along the barren landscape.
  337. “And you are?”
  338. >”Luna.”
  339. “What’s a Luna?”
  340. >”Just Luna.”
  341. >She flutters to a tall rock and strikes a pose.
  342. >You decide not to argue with the creature about that, and move on.
  343. “So, can you help me out?”
  344. >”Hmm?” She pulls on the cap a little, maybe it’s bothering her.
  345. >You point at your sad excuse of a ship.
  346. “Could you help me with that?”
  347. >”Help?” She jumps down to your front.
  348. >She makes her way to the crashed ship, and begins to poke around.
  349. >You slide your visor back down, and follow her.
  350. >You stand and cup your hands on your hips, watching the poor machine in its state.
  351. “Eeyup, what a majestic standstill.”
  352. >You hear fits of laughter coming from the comm.
  353. “What’s so funny?”
  354. >Luna suddenly zips to your face.
  355. >”Hehe, you’re funny.”
  356. “Ooooka-“
  357. >”YOU’RE FUNNY.”
  358. >You raise your hands in fear, and slowly back away.
  359. >Well, it is very assuring to know you only companion is a loose screw.
  360. “Riiight.” You shake your head and walk away.
  361. “Anyway, could you help me out with this?” You point at the wreck.
  362. >”How?”
  363. >You don’t like the giddy look on her face.
  364. “Don’t you have tools or some sort?”
  365. >Two rocks begin to glow in an eerie blue aura, and it levitates to Luna’s face.
  366. >”Like this? A large rock, oooooor this smallish medium rock!”
  367. >You’d make a sarcastic remark, but one thing grabs your attention.
  368. >How the hell is she holding the rocks up?
  369. >Actually, why don’t you ask?
  370. “Excuse me, but how are you levitating the two rocks? Or is it a natural phenomenon?”
  371. >Luna stares curiously at you, as if you asked her if she ate today.
  372. >Something obvious.
  373. >”Yep! It’s all on me! It’s magic!”
  374. >This is plain ridiculous.
  375. “Magic. Uh-huh.”
  376. >”Eeyup!”
  377. “How?”
  378. >Luna throws you a confused look.
  379. “What do you mean how? All unicorns can do it.”
  380. >Unicorns, noted.
  381. “Unicorns?” You ask, slightly dumbfounded.
  382. >”Back in Equestria, like always.”
  383. >Luna points behind her, to Earth.
  384. >The sun slowly reached through the dark planet, revealing you the green-blue planet you knew so much.
  385. >But the continents are all wrong…
  386. >And then, another realization hits you.
  387. >The sun was revolving the planet.
  388. >And it moved as if under some effect, as if… someone was manipulating it.
  389. >It was a creationist’s wet dream.
  390. >You turn to Luna, who is turn is staring at the ground.
  391. >She looks… sad.
  392. “You alright?” You make sure.
  393. >Luna looks up and forces a smile, but you can see the tears welling up in her eyes.
  394. >Against your better nature, you decide not to ask her how she’s doing, and return to the world of magic.
  395. >You wonder how many people would kill to see this, with their stories and hopes.
  396. >But but but- priorities.
  397. >Your eyes catch the crashed ship.
  398. “Say Luna, could you-“
  399. >Something latches onto your back.
  400. >You hear the metallic clang of her slippers touching your hard suit and visor.
  401. >Two hooves block your sight.
  402. >”Gee, why are you wearing this again?”
  403. >You jump is surprise, and try to shake Luna off.
  404. >”Weeee! Could you take this off?”
  405. >She presses a random button on your chest piece.
  406. >The comm cuts off, before Luna presses the button again.
  407. >”Oops! Maybe this?”
  408. >She then eyes the hatches on your helmet.
  409. >It slowly pulls open, covered in the same blue aura you saw earlier.
  410. “Nonononono-“ You pull down on the helmet, and push Luna down.
  411. >”Hey, what gives?”
  412. “Luna, don’t. Ever. Try that again.” You balance your body on your knees, placing a hand on each joint.
  413. >More confused stares.
  414. >”Why?”
  415. “I can’t breathe here.”
  416. >Luna gasps.
  417. >”Can’t breathe? Why? Moon air is fine to me!”
  418. >You shake your head.
  419. “Maybe you can, but I can’t. I need this suit- or I’ll die.”
  420. >Luna slowly nodded, and then shook herself to her cheery, somewhat creepy mood.
  421. >She makes fast glances at you and your ship.
  422. >”So- you were saying about the ship?”
  423. “Huh? Oh, right. Could you-“
  424.
  425. >And so you began the construction.
  426. >You and Luna will try to put it back to shape, the front half of the shuttle.
  427. >She could round off the impacted surfaces, turning it back to its original form.
  428. >You’d go back in and refill your oxygen tank every eight hours.
  429. >If you were lazy enough, you’d just take your old crew’s tanks.
  430. >It’s been two days.
  431. >You still got plenty of paste and dry bars in stock, and about ten liters of water.
  432. >You’ve been rationing your food since day one.
  433. >Never know how long it would take.
  434. >The familiar hiss goes off, and you are greeted by the starry space.
  435. >It doesn’t take long for you to find your odd companion.
  436. >She is lying right by your airlock, curled into a sleep.
  437. “Morning, Luna.” You call out.
  438. >She stirs awake, and smiles to you.
  439. >She was an… eccentric character.
  440. >She was eager to help you with your every whim.
  441. >You were impressed, but you had no idea why she would help you like this.
  442.
  443. “So, why are you here, Luna?” You grab the wielder.
  444. >”What do you mean?”
  445. “The moon, why are you alone?”
  446. >You press the trigger and slowly meld two plates together.
  447. >Sparks fly and then quickly disappears.
  448. >”Well… There was a fight.”
  449. “Oh? With whom?”
  450. >”With my sister.”
  451. “Which was?”
  452. >”Oh, don’t be coy, Celestia.”
  453. “Excuse me?”
  454. >Luna shakes a little.
  455. >”Oh! I’m sorry. Your visor just reminds me of my sister.”
  456. “This one?” You tap the golden gleam.
  457. >She nods.
  458. >And then, her face sinks to a solemn look.
  459. >”It… was a terrible fight. Many ponies lost their lives.”
  460. >You’ve never seen her so serious.
  461. >You decide this is a touchy subject, so you choose to drop the subject.
  462. “Well, anyway, I think we’re ready to go, Luna.”
  463. >”Hmm?”
  464. “If you can just propel me just right, I can ride this ship back to the planet. Then I can get help. I’ll find help for you too.”
  465. >”Anon…”
  466. “I just need one quick burst of energy. The low gravity will make it easier.”
  467. >”Anon….”
  468. “Yes?”
  469. >”There is no escaping the moon, my sister made sure of that.”
  470. >You give her a smug look.
  471. “We can give it a shot, right?”
  472. >Luna frowns once, but she assumes her giddy expression once again.
  473. >”Okay…”
  474. >She subconsciously draws her wings open, like if she was taking flight.
  475. >She closes her eyes.
  476. >She saw this before.
  477.
  478. >”Get in.” Luna says.
  479. >You smile and rush into your ship.
  480. >As soon as your airlock seals, you feel a sudden lift.
  481. >Gravity feels stronger, as your ship slowly lurches up.
  482. >It stops for a second, before you are launched.
  483. >You fall to your back, the force is too strong.
  484. >You drag yourself to a nearby railing and pull yourself up, and look outside of the cockpit window.
  485. >The planet is getting bigger and bigger and-
  486. >It stopped?
  487. >You are given a moment of weightlessness, before you are jerked to the ceiling of the deck.
  488. >You’re falling.
  489. >Luna watches in silent agony, as your ship crashes on the same spot again.
  490. >You barely land on your feet as you jump out, and go straight for Luna.
  491. “What did you do?”
  492. >”Nothing, it is my sister’s work.”
  493. “What?”
  494. >”I’m imprisoned here, Anon. She made sure I can’t leave.”
  495. >Luna demonstrates this by throwing up a rock up to the air, only to have it fire back to the ground, leaving another crater.
  496. >Luna opens her wings again, showing you the wounds on it.
  497. >”Ever wondered why we have so much craters in the moon?”
  498.
  499. >”Anon, this is pointless!”
  500. “This is pointless.” You echo her mockingly.
  501. >You grunt and meld the broken surfaces again.
  502. >This time, this time- it will work.
  503. >As you close the airlock again, you call out to Luna.
  504. “Remember, try harder!”
  505. >Luna sighs and nods once.
  506. >Your stomach heaves as you feel the speed crushing down on you.
  507. >And at that point again, you stop.
  508. >And with the same speed, you are shot down.
  509. >You have to stay down for a while, due to the shock to your body.
  510. >You crawl out, only to meet Luna’s sad stare.
  511. >”Anon…”
  512. “Again.”
  513.
  514. >You drop to your knees, and look up to the stars.
  515. >How many times did you do this?
  516. >Five, six?
  517. >Luna comes up next to you, and lays her head on your helmet.
  518. >”I’m sorry Anon.”
  519. “No.”
  520. >”What?”
  521. “Fuck it, I’m not giving up. Luna, prepare your magic.”
  522. >”But Anon, it’s pointless!”
  523. >You turn to her, and smile.
  524. >It was hidden under the visor, but she gets it anyway.
  525. “We humans never give up. It’s our spirit.”
  526. >God that was the cheesiest line you ever used.
  527. >Luna puts up a hoof to hide something on her face.
  528. >Her expression lights up with the sun behind her.
  529. >”Alright! Let’s do this!”
  530. >You tap on the flat metal surface, and rise to your feet.
  531. >There, all set to go.
  532.
  533. >Luna watched as Anonymous slowly backed away from the ship and admires their work.
  534. >She often saw his prideful and smug expression.
  535. >And his insistence to never give up.
  536. >It just seemed so… familiar.
  537. >Anonymous reminded her of a certain pony she knew.
  538. >And know.
  539. >She saw his face only thrice-
  540. >Not that she was counting.
  541. >Most of the time it was obscured by the darkness, since the sunlight would blind him.
  542. >Luna wondered if he had a mane like her.
  543. >Minotaurs certainly didn’t.
  544. >And Anonymous don’t have horns- he’s a ‘hooman’.
  545. “Alright, another leap of faith.”
  546. >Anonymous leaped into his ship, and Luna saw the white pillar that noted its seal.
  547. >She never tried going inside; that would be rude.
  548. “Let’s do this.” Anon beeped through the comm..
  549. >Luna took a non-existent breath, and started her magic.
  550. >She had to admit, doing all this magic polished her skills, little by little.
  551. >Last time she was this powerful, she-
  552. >No, she was not going there.
  553. >She focused her mana to the tip of her horn.
  554. >Just like how she taught her.
  555. >Just like when she was taught to raise the moon.
  556. >With one single push, Luna saw the machine lurch up to the air.
  557. >Funny she thought it was her new friend.
  558. >How silly of her!
  559. >Seconds later, the ship crashed back on the surface of the moon.
  560. >Luna heard Anonymous curse through his comm., many which she did not understand.
  561. >Knowing the next step, Luna slowly made her way to the ship, and began repairing it.
  562. >Just like how Anonymous taught her.
  563. >A plate by plate, a nail by nail.
  564. >Now, to wait for the wielder.
  565. >…
  566. >Where is he?
  567. >Luna glanced sideways, to find a sign of that white figure.
  568. >He is nowhere to be seen.
  569. >Luna waited a little longer.
  570. >”Anon?” She called into the cap.
  571. >She saw a small wave of moon dust scattering on the far side of the ship.
  572. >She then saw a white hand slowly clutch onto the ground, and pull in the body behind it.
  573. >Luna figured by then something was wrong.
  574. >Very, very wrong.
  575. >She quickly ran over to his side, only to see his left leg bent at an odd angle.
  576. >From the way he was laying and his twitchy movements, he was clearly in pain.
  577. >She quickly worked her magic, reverting the limb back to its position.
  578. >Anonymous twisted and writhed more.
  579. >Luna could practically hear him screaming.
  580. >”Please hold on!” She shouted.
  581. >Suddenly, Anonymous stopped.
  582. >He slowly looked up to you, and put up a thumb.
  583. >Luna hesitated, not knowing what the gesture meant.
  584. >Anonymous slowly got to his feet, and pressed the button on the white box.
  585. “Thanks.”
  586. >”Are you… alright?”
  587. >He nods a few times, and tries to get up.
  588. >But he fails to do so, his back falling to the floor helplessly.
  589. >He tries again, only to slump down.
  590. >Luna looked over him, with a worried expression on her face.
  591. >”Anon?”
  592. “Nonon, I’m fine, I just need to-“
  593. >He tries again, only to roll over his stomach.
  594.
  595. “Erhm.”
  596. >Luna stifles a laugh, as she follows your suit.
  597. “Can I-“
  598. >Luna bends her knees and lowers herself next to you.
  599. >”Need help?”
  600. >You sigh.
  601. “Please?”
  602. >She smiles, and stands up.
  603. >She offers you a hoof, which you take eagerly.
  604. >She rears back, trying to balance her weight and yours.
  605. >Your feet are almost aligned with the ground when Luna suddenly loses her stance.
  606. >She lets out a yelp before falling, as do you.
  607. >You grip harder on her hoof, as you land with a thud.
  608. >Dust flies off everywhere, obscuring your view.
  609. >Your visor is encrusted with the settling particles.
  610. >You try to dust it off, but more simply float down to take the clear space.
  611. >You groan and pull up the golden visor.
  612. >You hear a sneeze, and some of the small debris clears off.
  613. >And then.
  614. >And then you see the two eyes locked to you.
  615. >You blink once, and it does the same.
  616. >It quickly vanishes up the gray cloud.
  617.
  618. >Luna quickly shot up, and froze in place.
  619. >Her face lit up, feeling a stinging warmth for once.
  620. >Anonymous still held onto her hoof, in his strong grip.
  621. “Uhhh.” He stammered.
  622. >”I-I-I-“ Luna did the same.
  623. >Anonymous let go slowly, and let Luna get off him.
  624. “How about magic?”
  625. >”Call.”
  626. >You are immediately flung to your feet.
  627. >So fast, you almost fall flat on your face.
  628. >Helmet, whatever.
  629. “Thanks.”
  630. >”No problem- c-can we get back to work?”
  631. “Please?”
  632.
  633. >Ignoring the event, the two of you went back to work.
  634. >It was almost cyclical.
  635. >That day, Luna and you attempted escape two more times, before stopping for lunch.
  636. >You offered a dry bar once, Luna didn’t like it so much.
  637. >She spat it at your general direction.
  638. >Not using that helmet again.
  639. >Luna commented on your increased trials, but she won’t understand.
  640. >The concept of wearing suits outside was foreign to her in the first place.
  641. >You can’t explain what goes against what came to her naturally.
  642. >You were running out of time.
  643. >To be more specific, oxygen.
  644. >The fuel can last so long.
  645. >Soon, the generator’s out.
  646. >And food will be least of your worries.
  647. >Of course, you can’t let Luna know.
  648. >She often considered you a friend.
  649. >And you figured losing a friend so fast wouldn’t do much to her psyche.
  650. >So every chance you got, you try to escape.
  651. >Better you die somewhere far off than here.
  652. “Again, Luna.”
  653. >”But Anon, we’re not-“
  654. “I’ll be fine, again!”
  655. >No you weren’t.
  656. >Your leg still hurts.
  657. >And yet, you still go on.
  658. >You have to.
  659. >Pushing limits, it’s what people always done.
  660. >That’s how you achieve something.
  661. >But sometimes…
  662. >It just doesn’t work.
  663. >The ship began to rattle, and then to full blown shaking.
  664. >You were thrown to either side of the deck, and everything was flying everywhere.
  665. >Your thoughts stopped for a second.
  666. >Could this be it?
  667. >And everything stops.
  668. >Even you, float in mid-air.
  669. >You feel weightless.
  670. >You glance out the window, to the infinite, random arrangement of stars.
  671. >It is beautiful.
  672. >It always was.
  673. >Funny how quickly you can get used to things.
  674. >A plate passes through your view, and then- it slowly descends.
  675. >Your eyes go wide, and your heart begins to sink.
  676. >You were falling back.
  677. >You are slowly lifted higher.
  678. >You hear the same loud crash, as the metal wall bends around you.
  679. >Sparks fly off, and small machinery breaks off.
  680. >Far too late you realize what’s happening.
  681. >The ship is breaking off.
  682. >The vehicle lets out one final low pitched whine, before cracking.
  683. >Clear white walls snap open, revealing the dark void.
  684. >Everything that is not nailed to the floor gets sucked out.
  685. >Of course, that means you.
  686. >You are barely given the chance to hold on to something, before you are pushed out to the cold space.
  687. >You hurl and twirl a few times, with no hope of regaining your balance.
  688. >Finally, you stop.
  689. >You look down to see yourself covered in blue aura; Luna’s magic.
  690. >You are slowly brought to Luna.
  691. >”Anon, the ship…”
  692. >You turn around to face a pile of debris that was your ship.
  693.
  694. “No!” You scream, as you make a mad dash for the remnant of the shuttle.
  695. >But you know it.
  696. >It’s lost.
  697. >The recent push was just too much.
  698. >You rummage through the pieces, hoping for the impossible.
  699. >”Anon!” Luna trots up to you.
  700. >”It’s lost, stop it!”
  701. “No, I can still fix this!”
  702. >Luna jumps and pins you to a wall.
  703. >”Anon. I don’t think even I can fix this.”
  704. >You stare at her for a second, and then you push her off.
  705. “I got this, get my tools!”
  706. >Luna stands silent, looking scared.
  707. >You snap at her.
  708. “Get my tools!”
  709. >She takes a step back.
  710. >”Anon, I’m scared.”
  711. “Fine! To the hell with you!”
  712. >You brush her off, and head towards your tools stashed inside a crater.
  713. >Before you can reach it, your helmet suddenly cracks, and you are thrown to the ground.
  714. >You’re on your back again, looking up to the stars.
  715. >Luna slowly trots next to you, looking down grimly.
  716. “Luna? Help me up, I can still save the-“
  717. >”Shut up!” two of Luna’s hooves slam on your chest.
  718. >That shut you up.
  719. >”I can’t see you like this, Anon, I just can’t!”
  720. >She’s crying loudly now.
  721. >Her tears gently float to the ground, wobbling in the low gravity.
  722. >”I don’t want to- I can’t see you turn into-“
  723. >”Me.”
  724. “Luna, I will never-“
  725. >”But you are! It’s pointless, Anon, it’s pointless.”
  726. >Luna breaks down on you, laying her body over yours.
  727. “No, Luna, the reason I do this is-“ You cut yourself.
  728. >And at that moment, a small light starts to blip.
  729. >You know what that means.
  730. >”What? Why?”
  731. “… I’m dying.”
  732. >Luna goes speechless.
  733. “See this?” You point at the red dot. “I’m almost out of oxygen, Luna- I’m gonna die soon.”
  734. >”What? Nonono- I know, you can just take off the helmet and breathe like I do!”
  735. >You put up your visor, and look to her sadly.
  736. >”B-but- you can’t go… I need you.”
  737. “No, you’ll be fine, Luna.”
  738. >”I NEED you Anon- I-I like you…”
  739. >You can’t help but to smile.
  740. “You like me?”
  741. >You see a blush on her face, with a small smile.
  742. “Well then.”
  743. >You open one of the latches holding your helmet down.
  744. >You hear a light hiss.
  745. >”Anon, what are you doing?”
  746. >Luna is starting to panic.
  747. “I have to leave a good lasting goodbye, don’t I?”
  748. >”Stop talking like that, I can help you with my magic!”
  749. “I have to die sooner or later, Luna- say- I never realized how beautiful the stars are.”
  750. >You let out a chuckle.
  751. “I suppose we tend to not appreciate the things we always see.”
  752. >Luna smiles weakly, and turns around to see the sight.
  753. >She rolls off you and lies next to you, watching the show.
  754. >”I suppose we do.”
  755. “You know, maybe you can do something with your mane, work it with the stars.”
  756. >Luna smiles again, followed by a short giggle.
  757. >”I suppose I should.”
  758. >A short silence rings out between the two of you.
  759. >Luna holds tries to hold back the tears, and sniffles.
  760. >”I’ll miss you if I go.”
  761. “Don’t worry, vacuum has a great way of preserving bodies.” You smile.
  762. >Almost out now.
  763. >Your breath begins to fog the helmet.
  764. “Luna…”
  765. >You slide a hand behind her head, eliciting a surprised gasp.
  766. “I need you to trust me with this.”
  767. >You open the other lock.
  768.
  769. >You quickly take off the helmet, and throw it off.
  770. >At the same time, you pull Luna close to you.
  771. >You leave a small kiss, before letting go.
  772. >You draw your last breath, as Luna goes away from you.
  773. >It’s so cold.
  774.
  775. >It was so cold.
  776. >It always was.
  777. >But now…
  778. >Luna felt the tingling warmth on her lips, which quickly faded away.
  779. >Anonymous let out a breath, and went silent.
  780. >”Anon?” She called out.
  781. >”Anon!”
  782. >She shook his body, but he didn’t respond.
  783. >He was-
  784. >No.
  785. >Luna quickly erected a shield around her, and tried to create more ‘oxygen’.
  786. >But she didn’t know what it was.
  787. >Tears fell endlessly.
  788. >Her only friend was gone.
  789. >She slowly slid his cap off, seeing his mane.
  790. >So he did have one.
  791. >Luna began to take his suit off.
  792. >She first removed his glove, revealing a much smaller hand underneath.
  793. >Luna lifted it up with her magic, and slid it over her cheeks.
  794. >His fingers were smooth, and it was still warm.
  795. >He was definitely not a minotaur.
  796. >Luna laid with his corpse for a while, absorbing his warmth.
  797. >His hands ran through her mane, separating it.
  798. >Luna loved the feeling, being stroked.
  799. >And then, anger filled her.
  800. >It was all Celestia’s fault!
  801. >If she didn’t hold everyone back- Anon would’ve-
  802. >And so Luna began to draw her power.
  803. >She would awaken one thing Celestia feared.
  804. >It would be a nightmare over Equestria.
  805. >They would all pay.
  806. >And then she reached out to the forgotten.
  807. >She called out to the stars…
  808.
  809. >Her mane split with the brush.
  810. >Some of the mane dissipated for a second, before reuniting.
  811. >It’s stars gleamed softly, in the navy blue background.
  812. >Anonymous would’ve liked it.
  813. >”Once again, it is good to have you back, Luna.”
  814. >She turned to the white princess pony before her.
  815. “I-Indeed, thine words makes this pony feel most welcome.”
  816. >Her sister smiled.
  817. >”Of course, if anything-“
  818. “Then a moment would be most appropriate.”
  819. >Celestia opened the chamber door, turned around to sneak a smile, and then she left.
  820. >Luna sighed, and continued to brush her mane.
  821. >”Luna!”
  822. >Celestia suddenly burst into the room.
  823. >Luna sighed and turned to her sister.
  824. “Speak.”
  825. >”You have to see this, sister; it calls itself a ‘hooman’, or whatever!”
  826. >And for that second, Luna’s eyes gleamed like the stars.
